What are you thinking

31 posts in this topic

We all get random thoughts that pop into our minds that have nothing to do with what we are currently doing.

I'm not talking road rage thoughts or anything like that.  You can be sitting at your desk, eating a meal, laying in bed trying to go to sleep.  Whatever.

Such as...I'm driving down the road and all of sudden I think, if I had stayed married to my first wife, today would have been our 50th anniversary.

BTW, I got married the first time at 18, so I'm not that old yet.  I thought I was in love, but it was only lust. Plus she told me she was pregnant...she lied.

What random thoughts have suddenly popped up in your mind for no apparent reason?

The recurring subconscious thought that keeps me company is that I am so fortunate to have lived this life, live in a beautiful place, doing what I love, have the best true friends and have made connections (through this board) with some of the most beautiful (com)passionate women who, with great pleasure, I call my pals.  Happy 2020 to all.

Being serious for a moment, I heard a radio interview with Henry Winkler (formerly the Fonz), and he was asked why he is always so happy.

He said, “I say out loud several times a day, especially when I am angered, frustrated or upset, ‘I am happy and I am grateful.’”

He said that, remarkably, it works and he immediately feels grateful and happy, and the issue of the moment comes into perspective.

I also am doing this, and damned if it doesn’t work, but the key is to say it out loud, preferably to someone.

Accordingly, the thought that comes to me most often these days is “I am happy and I am grateful.”

Now that I'm past 60, I often recall people I've lost touch with, and wonder how they are. It happens at random times, with no rhyme or reason.

Old girlfriends, guys from high school, people I've played music with over the years, escorts I really liked (now retired), people I've worked with, etc. etc. etc.

Nostalgia rules! LOL!

I have way too many random thoughts to list.  Some have to do with memories from the past.  Some are about current stuff and some are about the future.  The mind thinks...and thinks....and thinks.  From an eastern perspective, it is called "papanca" or conceptional proliferation.

Right now, I am thinking....I'm gonna take a vacation day today...unplanned.

Always come up with thoughts of fun things that can be done in the future. As well as the occasional remembering of past events that bring a smile to my face.

You know what?

I heard the same interview and damn if it doesn't make one feel better!

My jaded side: Henry Winkler is worth about a 100 million or so...So really what does he have to worry about like the rest of us wretches?

However I digress... it does seem to work! Try it!

My friend, unplanned vacations are the best in my humble opinion!

I've had a few and they were GREAT! Please do what you need to do for yourself. You deserve it like none other!

Cheering for you...me!:)

Sparkey, thanks for the encouragement.  I had a great day off.  Got some responsible things done in a leisurely and mindful way.  Thoroughly enjoyable with nothing rushed.  And did some fun stuff.  I think you are right about unplanned vacation days.  Wishing you a great 2020.

We had some here in the RGV 2 years ago.  First time in 10 years.  It can wait another 10 years before it does that again😜

In the altogether it’s chilly when it snows.  But some our Canadian visitor are hearty 😁

-EDIT-

Actually, a kilt is fairly warm in a snow storm.  Long hose (stockings) help, but the wrap traps warm air, unlike bifurcated garments which let the wind blow your body heat away.

When a stray thought floats into my head that I want to dislodge I wonder what would Pinky (from Pinky and the Brain for those of you who don’t know about them - check out https://quotesgram.com/pinky-and-the-brain-tv-series-quotes/) would say and I go and look up some of his famous quotes which gets the other thought dislodged. Here’s a classic of his:

The Brain: Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?
Pinky: I think so Brain... but do I really need 2 tongues?
