Posted July 14, 2018 (edited) Heads up! There is a blackmail scam going around where they claim that they have you on webcam stealing/watching porn and demand payment, lest they tell your friends/family/employer. Basically, if you've ever been caught up in a website breach, they have enough info to make it sound legit. Expect these type of emails to keep coming, just turning into other "embarrassing" topics over time. For example, on a different board, person said that they got a phone call from a burner number threatening them for torrenting files using breached data as "proof" that they know who this is and what they did. Usual warnings: don't use same password everywhere, use a password manager so that you can use random passwords and not have to remember them, and be savvy when getting these. https://gizmodo.com/dont-fall-for-this-scam-claiming-you-were-recorded-watc-1827557323 Edited July 14, 2018 by NoCoGeezer

I spoke to a friend and even thanked him for posting a review on me there. He also claimed the very same as you, that he never posted any review for me or anyone else on EM. So, please do your best to let go of your frustration with being violated by having info hijacked from another website and posted on that one and possibly other one also. Nothing has happened to my friend. So, I have every reason to believe you are also very safe too. 💚 Edited July 26, 2018 by Kali Sensual Reiki

Oh and yes I paid more than $400 for state this last year too Just unreal how many scams go on! Sad thing is sometimes they sound very official and they end up stealing from innocent people! 😟 I've been called by the IRS scam at least once a month or so, So.......I decided to take matters into my own hands...Here's what happened. I call them back, most of the time they don't answer....Once in a while I'm lucky. Ring ring, "hello this is IRS" Me "why do speak with an accent?" Them: "you are in much trouble with the IRS!" Me: "Really how so?" Them "you owe a lot of back taxes!" Me: Send me proof in an email Them: "do you want to go to jail?" Me: "very much so I could really use the vacation" Usually that's where they hang up on me. I keep there number saved in my cell phone so when I'm having a particularly bad day I call them up and fuck with them and put them on hold and fuck with them some more. One of my favorites is to say "hang on, I have a business call" and then leave my cell sitting on my desk! I STRONGLY suggest every on here do the same. You just might save a 90 year old lady her life's savings. These people are scum 100% Please join me in wasting their time! Thanks!
Posted August 3, 2018 Re: IRS scam: think everyone has got that one at least once (IRS does not call, they send letters). Mom has a landline and I've seen that popup on her caller id on visits. The Microsoft tech support is another one (no, you do not have a virus and Microsoft is not calling about your computer issues). Back to mom, seen "Applecare" popup on her caller id (she does have an out-of-warranty Mac, but has been trained to ignore and call real tech support [me]). Since I got rid of my landline some years ago, my spam calls have been going down greatly in numbers. Additionally, I've installed a spam call blocker (Hiya) on my cellphone and now the phone is practically silent these days. Also went through the trouble of assigning to friends/family/important contacts a ringtone and then setting phone's default ringtone to be a silent one: spam sneaks past call blocker, won't hear it. Friends/family get cell number, everyone else gets my Google Voice number where I have Do Not Disturb turned on (ie. Straight to voicemail).
Posted August 23, 2018 I for one am tired of all the soliciting spam calls so If I do not recognize the number or it is already in my phone then I answer in Japanese with an accent until they hang up. Sometimes I answer in Klingon and they just hang up immediately.

Noco Geezer and Sparky, i got a phone call this week by a woman from a company called Integral Recoveries she claimed to be calling for my 2013 income taxes for the state. She asked me question that she should already have answers on because everything is stated in my filing papers. She claimed that she already sent me a letter but didn’t even know my address? lol! So, many red flags even the documents she emailed me were something anyone could copy and paste in word. I am going to report this company next week along with her name! Just really makes me feel uncomfortable I then did some research on the internet and I found out (2013scams)are going on big. I think that was the year the IRS website was hacked? Correct me if I am wrong? However I know many people who are self employed who had tax problems for that year also! Self employed where hit big time! Frustrating I tried to look and used her tax ID for me that was different and written in several areas on her supposed legal letter. I tried to enter each of those account numbers into the state IRS website and none of them worked. So I then tried to skip trace her phone numbers all numbers are track phones. Also after calling the toll free number I was unable to speak to a human. My concerns are for others and find it critical that we all speak out on scams of this sort! Lol she was claiming I owed 1443.80 (must be her rent)? Please be careful! Edited September 8, 2018 by Kali Sensual Reiki

Posted September 8, 2018 Sounds like Kali did all the correct things re: not giving up information such as SSN, PII info. Quick search turns up that Integral Recoveries is a legit company that State of CO uses for recovery of delinquent taxes. That said, 1) stating obvious, caller ID info is easily spoofable and 2) CO will send an official letter from them saying "pay up, or we will send to collections or place a lien/wage garnishment on you" and then a second letter saying "we have sent to collections and or getting a lien/wage garnishment". IRS also works the same, and maybe uses the same company (among a few others: seem to recall reading that IRS uses four companies for recovery). And even if in collections, you never send money to the collections agency: it is all handled by the appropriate taxing authority. So, sounds like the "we are about to arrest you" robo-calls have upped their game to be more "legit" sounding. Re: IRS getting hacked. Maybe was 2013. I know there was one in 2015 which caused the states to stop accepting e-file returns due to them getting swamped with fake returns (and why you now need to provide a driver's license number on e-file returns). Believe there was another breach in 2016. Add in things like doctor's office, mortgage company, etc. that use your SSN as an ID, where they also have your home address, possibly work history, and these places might have weak/non-existent security measures, weak/no password on wifi, obsolete software, tossing out documents vs getting them shredded, our PII can get easily leaked out, no matter how diligent we are protecting it. And, double edged sword, those websites the ladies use to help verify guys also are being used by bad guys to get info and scam.
Posted September 8, 2018 From the Google-net if anyone need a general refresher. Pertaining to landlines Robocallers Win Even if You Don't Answer from the no-escape dept. Sarah Krouse, reporting for WSJ:Caller ID is feeding one of the very problems it was developed to stop: junk calls. Illegitimate robocallers, or outfits that flood American landlines with marketing calls, use the decades-old identification system to make money, even when no one picks up. While scammers' biggest paydays come from tricking victims into handing over credit card or bank account information asking for e-mails, many robocallers make incremental cash along the way, thanks to little-known databases that try to identify who is calling. Each time a caller's name is displayed, phone companies pay small fees -- typically fractions of pennies -- to databases that store such records. Some of these fees are handed back to the caller. With millions of automated calls a day, the amounts can add up. "It's slow nickels, not fast dimes" for scammers, but it helps offset the costs of making the calls, said Aaron Woolfson, president of TelSwitch, a company that licenses out telecommunications-billing software. ______________________ AnD if not already Registered:: The Do Not Call Registry accepts registrations from both cell phones and land lines. That will merely verify that yours is a working number and make you a target for more calls, experts said.
