Posted December 1, 2017 Seems that the majority of the ad titles are now just phone numbers and within the ad Facebook, Instagram or Twitter links (90% of them are to nothing) and pictures/videos, no descriptions... I've seen a few "work arounds" ...a picture of the services advertised. Yes, I still shop there once in a while, just curious about the change if anyone wants to chime in?

Just trying to make it harder to advertise adult services, in the hopes of driving off advertisers. Because text is gone, now you can't advertise services for certain illicit without prescription things. No naughty words or emojis implying certain acts (aside: yeah! no longer getting the hooker fonts throughout ads and subject line, boo! no hooker fonts in that it made it easy to spot which ads I've seen and decided to avoid [trying to recognize numbers is hard enough for me with numbers I should know]). Hoping johns will avoid since no data in these new ads. Yes, some providers have figured out the "put your ad text into a pic", but guessing some change down the road will be to allow only one picture per ad, and will flag any that are descriptive text. Posted December 2, 2017 I suspect they're trying to stay one step ahead of the AGs & LEOs. Forcing ad content into pictures makes it easier for them to claim no knowledge and harder to spot illicit activities.
Posted December 2, 2017 As far as I am aware its only for the Dating section so I concur with your statement - which will probably make providers who use BP move to a different section like Massage or what not

Such an expert. Are you saying they don't want to make millions anymore? They're avoiding the law and congress. They're stripping themselves of culpability. It's called adapting. All the data you need is phone number and if that's not enough search the pictures.
Posted December 5, 2017 Have to agree with Lucy, they’re just trying to stay ahead of the game with LE they can show that they’re doing something to stop it without really doing anything to stop it.
Posted December 5, 2017 Well the other thing is that the ad is tied back to a phone number registered to a real person.
Posted December 5, 2017 I just haven't figured out why some people are still able to post full adds to subjects. The ladies I've chatted with about it haven't had a clue. It's made it harder to find what I'm looking for when I"m on the road.

Those who had pain in advance for sponsor ads ...and kept them updated before they expired (you could buy a month or a week).. are the ones with longer verbiage. If a provider let her ad expire where she needed to "renew" it- it gets bounced to the new system. Pretty soon...all will be just the numbers.

Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) Unless it's a BP up charge, this change can't be a hard and fast rule, as there are some still using hooker fonts, which leads me to believe it's more of a herd mentality than anything else? My guess is it's only a matter of time.

DCMA has a safe harbor clause where - arguably - backpage wouldn't be responsible for what users upload in a photo. They wouldn't have to police each submission but do need to remove illegal content when made aware of it.
Posted December 15, 2017 Ive noticed that some of the ladies have adapted by putting up good pictures and descriptions on Twitter or Tumbler. And the cool thing is they put up better pics and info than I've ever seen on BP. And that makes shopping easier. A lady who goes to the effort of doing a good job promoting herself will most likely be legit. So, you ladies can turn lemons into lemonade. But please don't put yourself on Facebook. There is no way I am going there since FB tracks us better than Google.
