Crossroads

18 posts in this topic

There have been a few times in my life where I found myself at a fork in the road. I’d felt that there were only two choices I could have possibly made. I’d make a decision and invariably change my mind at the last minute to make the second choice.

I believe that souls who dwell on the thought of what they could have, should have or would have done differently are stuck in an endless cycle.

The way forward is the realization that there was no decision to make in the first place.

A great river of lies floods our dreams with promises of choice and consequence.

Rejoice, for now you know you have no choice at all.

To those of you who would disagree, I offer you a challenge.

In 800 years, speak with your own lips and tell everyone how you’ve done it.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

~ William Ernest Henley

Move him into the sun—
Gently its touch awoke him once,
At home, whispering of fields unsown.
Always it woke him, even in France,
Until this morning and this snow.
If anything might rouse him now
The kind old sun will know.

Think how it wakes the seeds—
Woke, once, the clays of a cold star.
Are limbs so dear-achieved, are sides
Full-nerved,—still warm,—too hard to stir?
Was it for this the clay grew tall?
—O what made fatuous sunbeams toil
To break earth's sleep at all?”

- Wilfred Owen, 1918.

I have come to the conclusion that I have to just play the cards I’m dealt. I keep thinking if I could have done something to change the last few months, but what would be the consequences be.

Sorry Vassago. When I read what you have to say. It reminds me that I need to take my Border Collie out for her walk.

You rush into the shopping arcade
and step aside to avoid the mirror-clad pillar
When you meet yourself rushing out.

Swiftly you pass, and may even glance
over your shoulder just in time to glimpse
yourself spinning on your heel,

wondering which of you is real. As I did,
before hurrying off, getting home first
and trying to persuade her there was only one of me.

But apparently she had always known
there were two, and the one she loved
should soon be home, if I’d care to wait.

Occasionally I'll have thoughts about "what if?

Then I say to myself "one little change from my past and I would not be where I am at today".  I would not have met some of the great people I know.  I wouldn't have my 2 sons and grandson.

So I say to myself "the past is the past.  Don't try to re-live it because it will never be the same as it was. Look toward the future and try to make it better than the past".

“In me didst thou exist—and, in my death, see by this image, which is thine own, how utterly thou hast murdered thyself.”

In Dante's Inferno, he navigates the nine rings of hell. These are concentric circles.

What they don't tell you is there are nine spheres of Heaven. You want to navigate Heaven, not hell.

I would say in life  it is not a crossroad but more a flowchart.  For me it was should I go to the strip club or not. If yes, then should I try to get a girl to see me out of the club . If yes,  should I just spend my money trying to see girls from the club. If No, should I just start meeting providers and getting more from my money. If yes, then should I start getting on forums to expand my prospects.  So now you know how I got here. Lol. 😉

As a young lad on the farm, I was present once at a discussion between several local farmers. They were talking about changes to their plans for what to plant based on fluctuating prices on certain crops. An older guy, Earnest said nothing, so someone asked him what he was going to do. Earnest said, " Well, I'm just gonna stick with what I originally decided to plant". Incredulous, a younger farmer asked him as the other nodded, "Oh I don't know about that Earnest, what if it's the wrong decision?" Earnest just shrugged and said, " Then I'll make another one"
