Savoir Faire

Name a famous person/celebrity that you met but didn't know they were famous at first

57 posts in this topic

I will start with one of many. I was traveling to Taipei Taiwan and the line was extremely long to board the airplane. Next thing I know, I see a 6'0 blonde walking with at least 10 little bitty guys. The few that I was traveling with were curious as to who she was? I decided to get out of line and just go ask, shit I mean she had to be famous to get to go to the front of the line like that. So I approached and was obviously stopped by security and I politely just asked "Who are you, I know you have to be someone famous? She smiled and instructed security to let me through. She was so shocked I didn't know who she was, she asked if I would sit with her on the flight. I was like sure, I really wanted to know who she was because she looked familiar. After she boarded, they came and got me out of line and escorted me to sit with her. We talked/laughed and she would never tell me who she was LOL. I rode 6 freaking hours trying to get it out of her but she would not budge. After landing, she gave me her info and where she was staying and we hooked up later that week and had a blast.

I've actually met a few "famous" people over the years and have recognized every one of them from the start.

President Jimmy Carter on the same flight as me from San Francisco to Denver.  We acknowledged each other as he was boarding and I was first in line to get on the plane.  He then went through the plane and shook hands with every person on the flight.

Tracy Nelson - daughter of Ricky Nelson...I actually sat next to her on the flight to Denver

Laphonso Ellis

Mike Hampton

Denny Neagle

Wellington Webb

Bill Ritter

Federico Pena

I hopped on the DIA train one day and looked to.my left.  There were two guys who looked familiar, but I couldnt place them. Ultimately I figured out it was Archie Manning and his son Cooper. This was right after Peyton retired. I asked brought them to town. Archie replied "Well, we thought we should check on Peyton. He's unemployed, you know....."

I grew up with the grandchildren of someone famous. Do you know, I never thought much about it.  Then again I met quite a Few famous people in passing and mostly growing up in life, but I never really thought of these famous people as anything more than friends. Do you know this is an a topic that I would NOT feel safe talking about on a public forum in detail giving what I do and that famous grandpa is  long gone. Many of those lovely people are now  passing or have passed. One thing I will add is  Interesting enough, is  I saw a movie on Prime that came out a few years back. I was SO shocked when someone was able to get his unique voice perfect matched and charter facial features and  mannerisms ofhim SO unbelievable! Yes, it was so perfectly matched. I was blown away by that alone, and it brought tears to my eyes. I called my mom. and told her about the movie. I have since lost touch with this family. Yet, my mom has many photo albums of myself and siblings growing up filled with birthday parties, summer camp, lots of outings. Activities with my friends that were the grandchildren of  their grandpa, and yes, I know he is also in those old photo albums also. Not important really,  just happy memories Of growing up.

I am not too familiar with Mr Bridges but more familiar with Beau and Jeff..................That is the coolest thing/feeling when you encounter celebrities in real life.

I was doing some work in Kin Carol. I had done some work for this guy before and new he was in the movie production business. I had the code to the security system and usually let  myself in. When I was about done and taking tools out to my van, I heard someone say, "ya need some help with that". When I turned around there stood Patrick Swayze with a doughnut and a glass of milk. I said "no but that doughnut looks pretty good". I then said hay "My wife loves you". We must have sat and bullshitted for a hour. Before I left, he asked If i wanted an autographed picture for my wife and I said "Hell No! she would never forgive me".  Never did tell her.

I literally almost drove or biked into two famous individuals.

I almost biked into Jerry Lewis as he was stepping out of a chauffered car at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in Lincoln, Nebraska, which was near the University of Nebraska. I was a university student riding a bike at the time in a hurry to get somewhere. That was a close call. This was around 1993 or so.

Another close call...I almost drove my VW Bug into Mayor Frederico Pena when he was jogging near Sloan Lake in Northwest Denver. As I turned at an intersection, I saw him at a corner of my eye and weaved around him to avoid him. Once I did so, I saw a security person in an unmarked automobile driving slowly a short distance behind him. As I turned to avoid him, I did not know who he was, but then when I saw the trailing vehicle I knew I narrowly missed an accident with the mayor. This was back around 1985 or so.

1.  went on a double date in high school and Goldie Hawn was my friends date. She was funny even then.

2.  met Ronald Reagan before he was president.  I really did not know who he was.

3.  had conversation with John Elway when he was just arriving in Denver

4. met BB King before I really knew who he was and I have been a blues fan ever since.

LOL @ you almost running into Jerry being everything except a sweet moment...............I wasn't a student at the University of Nebraska but I definitely had my share of fun in good old Lincoln. Sloan Lake was another fun place, them Latinas had me hooked for a few years. Mr Moment what exactly was occupying you and causing these close calls?

Loved the movie Cool Hand Luke. Cool your friend wasn't Kurt Russel was it? Just kidding, she is funny. As far as President Reagan, yep I met him, I expected him to be taller. I met Elway a couple of times. Wow you met B.B. too. I met him a few times. Nice guy, never heard anybody who could duplicate the way he makes hi guitar sound...................

Worked at a very upscale hotel in Downtown in the 90’s. Too many famous people to list. Politicians during the G8 summit. The secret service were an interesting group of guys. When U2 and Rage Against the Machine partied there, a great group of people. The Monday Night Football Crew used to stay there when Broncos played. Al Michael’s = real nice, Don Meredith= real cool, Dan Dierdorf= not cool at all. Sadly, I last saw John Denver just a few days before his death. A super cool just regular kind of local guy. A real loss for our community. Many others and too many to list.

A similar scenario, but not exactly meeting the OP context: In the late 80's I was at Stapleton with the family. John Elway was also there in the boarding area with his family.  My never shy then 8 yr old Bronco fan daughter marched right over and had a conversation. Six months later we are at Copper Mountain.  My daughter spots John Elway in the lift line. She again marched over and said "John! Hi! Its me - Marian!!"

30 or so years ago was shopping with the SO at the PX on Ft. Campbell, KY. There was a display where an African-American lady was promoting and selling her line of greetings cards. A man who appeared to be her husband was there but kept in the back ground. He was tall, well dressed, athletic.  Looked very familiar but I couldn't place him. He noticed me looking at him and smiled but did not say a word. I then noticed the last name of the lady on the display of greetings cards way Sayers and it clicked. Long story short, I got to meet Gayle Sayers and still have to two autographed pictures that he gave me. Very nice couple.

I did my Basic Training at Ft. Campbell in 1969.

Gladys Knight and the Pips (at least that is the name my memory is telling me) performed for us one Sunday.
