Cops in front of hotel

26 posts in this topic

That doesn't make sense to me. I mean, if they want to set you up and arrest you, why make it clear as day that they are there in the first place? Maybe they got called there for another reason that had nothing to do with the escort currently there, but it does make everyone nervous.

Thought the same but still there later. Like they were there to stop everyone entering. Just parked right at the lobby door. Not even in a space.

Oddly enough, that is probably the time to strut right on in and get your business done. After all, I suspect that when guys get popped by LE (makes my heart skip a beat just thinking about the horror), they probably never see it coming due to the nature of the sting.

Yeah I have to agree with, Pitbull

Maybe take a moment to see what is going on. If it doesn't look like a setup, go about your business.

why would they be parked right at the front door, sitting in the car? Assholes.

Maybe you just asked and answered your question ;)

I mean, maybe some assholes were causing or threatening trouble at the hotel, for some reason. So the hotel manager called the cops, and, when the situation was explained, the cops decided to make themselves visible at the hotel entrance for a while.

I doubt that your planned social activities at the hotel had anything to do with the reason the cops were there.

People go to hotels for a variety of reasons. Dinner, drinks, conventions, meetings, events. Even people not staying in them...as do cops. If you don't act so guilty, no one will think you are guilty, so just go about your own business.

I think VV has it correct. However, that walk and portraying confidence is soooo hard to do.

I've had it happen once. WOW is it tough to just walk in and do what you do. Kinda difficult to act calm and cool when the adlrenalin is firing on all cylinders

I once left a lady's incall (apartment), and came out to find 3 cop cars parked very near my car. It took every nerve I had to calmly get in my car and leave without looking like the biggest, guiltiest dumbass on the planet. They never spared me a glance, but in my head, it had everything to do with me.

Seems unlikely that a bust would go that way. But the cops do have a way of making us paranoid. Could be the reason people drive 10 mph under the speed limit when they see one on the highway,

I have had this situation occur several times. Only one time have I walked away and that was because I had never met the provider and she wasn"t really well known as far as reviews and the like. Other times, I have been meeting a provider I am very familiar with. In most situations, with most of my favorite providers, any exchange of $$$ is extremely subtle. Rarely, do they even ask for it.

Went to a hotel once that you had to drive through another's lot. At the 1st one was 20 or more LE cars from 4 or more agencies.

Talk about nerve wracking!

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe they were there for an appointment? :P:D

Hotels do have more then one door ;). Often times, a provider will ask me to park around back and open up a rear door for me, so I don't need to walk through the lobby.

If I have never been to a certain hotel before, I will often ask the provider to describe the layout of the lobby and where the elevators are located, so I can confidently walk across the lobby and straight to the elevator, just like I've been there many times before.

Or maybe, get to the appointment a half hour early and go to the bar, and sip a bourbon while accessing the situation.

But really, if you are dressed nicely, polite to any staff you pass, smile, no one is going to notice you, or give you a second look .

Personally, I'd try not to worry about it or overthink it. There are literally dozens of possible reasons why a cop might be parked out front... none of which may have anything to do with you or who you are seeing.

I remember an incident a few months back when I saw a provider... I was picking her up at her hotel because we were going out to dinner. I pulled up in the hotel parking lot and was waiting for her to come out when two police cars pulled up on either side of my car. The two cops came over to my car and asked to see my I.D. They asked me if I was staying at that hotel. I calmly told them I wasn't. Then they asked me why I was there. I told them I was there to pick up a friend because we were going out to dinner. They asked if I had anything in my car that they "should be aware of" and I simply chuckled and told them no. Everything I said was completely true. They took my I.D. and ran a check but I wasn't concerned because I knew I'm clean. After nothing showed up from their check, they gave me back my I.D. and told me to have a nice night and then drove away.

Unless it's a sting operation (in which case, the cops wouldn't be so highly visible) there's really nothing they can say or do to you. Last time I checked, meeting someone at a hotel isn't illegal and for all they know; it could be a friend, acquaintance, business associate, etc. that you're meeting. And once you're in the room and behind closed doors, you're golden (assuming the provider you're seeing is legit). It's not like the swat team is going to kick down the door and come crashing through the window.

Exactly. I'm not a big fan of the hotel lobby stroll, so meeting me at the backdoor, or finding it open is a bonus. I also inquire about the layout, so I can stroll by with confidence like I'm staying there and I'm on my way to my room. I've never been asked where I'm going.

I have encountered housekeeping before, who give me a sly grin like they know exactly what's going on. They've probably had to change the towels several times. I just give them a sly grin back. What happens, and what vocals happens between closed doors is none of their business.

The cops can park where ever they want.

They can ID me, but I have my rights too. If I have not committed a crime, they have to let me go. They'll need probable cause to detain me. Going out on a date is not probably cause. Just walk right in with confidence and get down to business. If they ask what you're doing there, they're just fishing for information that might be used against you, or give them the probable cause they're trying to get.

They pride themselves on making people nervous. When people get nervous, they start talking and can't stop. It's funny to watch my friends on traffic stops just start talking and shaking. Calm down! There's tons of youtube videos about this very same subject.

"Thanks for what you do officers, have a nice evening."

Most cops are honest, but if he wants to detain you, he will detain you. He can come up with a probable cause.

So you're right that we shouldn't all be terrified, and that we shouldn't answer their questions, however a bit of prudence is warranted. Especially if you actually are there doing something illegal, like seeing a hooker.

If you see police parked in the parking lot or in front of a hotel, you can rest assured they are not there for you...They are there for some other reason besides you obviously...This also means they have no business to question you as you enter or leave...The staff of the hotel should vocalize displeasure if they do this as it reflects poorly on their property however of course it would depend on the quality of the hotel you are visiting...It is most likely it was a problem with a guest or an employee...It is possible they were there due to a theft at the hotel; amongst other things...Also, it is standard practice for them to run the registry to insure registered guests do not have warrants, which is done at most hotels daily and done without the guests being aware it is happening...Yes they do this at every hotel, even the best quality and most expensive...So if you warrants it is advisable to stay clear of hotels or you are going to have issues...It might not happen today or tomorrow but it will happen eventually, its like playing Russian Roulette with your freedom...

I do hope this information helps you all a bit and this information is accurate as my professional career is in the hospitality industry...LOL... Well, in more ways then one, it seems...

Have a great evening and a wonderful week...

Barbi Dahl is spot on.

I worked at hotels during stings on people selling drugs. The police cars park in the back and when an arrest was made, they walked them out the employee entrance. The hotel didn't want the guest to know what was going on.

The police would stop in from time to time. Sometimes it they wanted to ask the employees to keep an eye out for a car or person. Sometimes it was just to use the restroom. When I worked graveyard shift, I kept a pot of coffee on for the police officers. If a police car was park in front of the hotel, it was less likely someone would come in and stick a gun in my face, I encouraged the police to park in front of the hotel.

It is not the cars in front of the hotel you have to worry about.

I'm wondering, Googles, if you were even legally obligated to give them your ID. I don't think so, but I don't know.

It's really interesting that you mention that, pitbull. I actually wondered the exact same thing. However, given the circumstances, I didn't want to arouse any suspicion or risk escalating the situation into something more. So I just went along with it, smiled and tried to be polite. Just as fork mentioned in his earlier response on this thread... if a cop wants to detain you, he will. And he can probably come up with any trumped up reason he wants in order to do it. A little prudence does indeed go a long way.

It is my understanding that LE may request DL & registration since they are state documents and proof of insurance because of the release given on the back of your registration, without cause. Beyond that you are not required to answer any questions. You should ask the following questions: "Am I under arrest, Officer? May I leave?" If their answers are "Yes. No.", the next, and the only thing, out of your mouth should be, "I want my attorney." If "No. Yes.", proceed as usual.

*** I am not a lawyer, but this is advice given to me by one.
