Additionally from the CDC https://www.cdc.gov/flu/season/faq-flu-season-2020-2021.htm

Aug 20, 2020 - The CDC says getting the flu vaccine in August isn't advised because it may not be as effective during the worst of the flu season. Although the vaccine is available now, it's not the best time to receive it. September is good with October as the prime month to get vaccinated. However, as long as flu viruses are circulating, vaccination should continue, even into and through January of 2021.

Aug 31, 2020 - and Yes, this season's flu vaccines were updated to better match viruses ... Information on getting a flu vaccine safely this season.

WebMD https://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/qa/when-is-the-best-time-to-get-the-flu-shot

"Flu season can begin as early as September and last as late as May. Your best bet is to get a flu shot early in the season so your body has a chance to build up immunity to the virus. ...ideally, the best time to get the shot is in early September and no later than late October. ...getting a flu shot later then that still helps. Vaccination earlier may cause protection to weaken by end of the season".

It's unfortunate in this day and time with all the resources we have, that there needs to be a post like this.  There are always risks in our industry, but please for the love of our community BE SAFE!!  This is NOT the time to be pushing boundaries, and letting our guards down.  Quite the opposite.  🙏🙏🙏

Also, even though you are using protection, you should be getting tested. You can still get STD's using them. There is a smaller chance but always a chance since there is skin to skin contact. EVERYONE who is having sex in any manner should be getting tested. We should all know our status. :)

There are lots of places that you can go to. Also, remember, with HIPPA it is as discreet as you can get!

As Kaduk mentioned, gonorrhea and chlamydia are the most common STDs amongst sexually active adults. Trichomoniasis is also common more so amongst women.  The incubation period for these can be anywhere from 2 to 5 days. These bacterial infections, in particular G & C  can be Asymptotic (without any symptoms); that’s why it is important to get tested for them often. They are also transmit-able via uncovered oral.  Bacterial infections are generally cured by injection of antibiotics and taking oral antibiotics along with refraining from any sexual activity for a period of 7-10 days.

On the other hand Viral infections such as Herpes Simplex type 1 & 2, Human Papilloma Virus and worse yet HIV, stay with you for life. Some of these viral infections can cause severe damage to the reproductive system or can even cause cancer.

Please read up about symptoms of different STDs on reliable medical sites such as webmd, Mayo Clinic or NIH. By protecting yourselves, you’re protecting all of us!

Jefco here. If you have Kaiser? You can walk in at any time and get blood drawn. It can be pricey. Yet it is what I have and use. I go often because it works for me.

Encapsulate this issue, current information and responsibility.

Pertaining to COVID-19 the consensus is and for the most part shows if you’re healthy, no co-morbidity or underlying conditions, more than likely you will recover just fine from a Covid-19 hit, so eat right, keep well hydrated, exercise and your body should most likely deal with this and recover. The sucky thing is, the antibodies rapidly decline and there’s been no evidence of antibodies in infected individuals beyond the two months post infection, making us vulnerable to reinfection. Not everyone who gets it has a death sentence. This C-19 virus is an asshole because of how it transmits (airborne with asymptotic transmission during the incubation period).

Now Pfizer who was never part of operation warp speed recently announcement that their company data shows a Vaccine Candidate at 90% effective, this would garner a peer review but looks promising. Would be at least two months out for 20 million doses distributed to the frontline workers who need it most, which makes Masks the greater priority at this time for everyone else.

Mask mandates (practice makes perfect) makes perfect sense. Generally speaking as we go about our daily routines. Everyone should ask themselves how proficient they're at wearing a mask and taking social distancing precaution, make a mental note if you feel you've been exposed to anyone who has tested positive for C-19 recently or if they’ve been around anyone that has displayed any symptoms. Take into consideration if traveling what health system orders are in place, avoid crowds.

Proper hygiene and a sensible approach to C-19 has been covered as in wear a proper mask to washing your hands. Individually focused everyone should shower as needed and if asked shower again, this helps remove viral particles that one may have picked up on their hair, beard, or skin.

Other items that I've recently researched is the many uses of hydrogen peroxide as a cleanser to even a hydrogen peroxide based mouth wash containing 1.5%-3% (crest makes it for whitening, it’s in a white bottle); or you can make your own as a 50/50 mix, water and 3% H2O2 - gargle for one minute and up to 4 times a day. Also there's infrared Thermometers that are fairly cheap from $16.99 to around $38.00 off of amazon that would come in handy.

There are so many things an individual can do when including a mask and limit gatherings if possible to one other person at a time as you make your way through the day.

Again if you aren't proficient at wearing a mask, start now and practice it to perfection. Protect the venerable population at this present time and through the winter. The mandate has always been flattening the curve, our already overwhelmed health system needs to operate smoothly and never come close to capacity. The health professionals are more likely to save lives now then at the beginning of this year, so hopefully this trend continues. As we are in the middle of this pandemic lets keep everyone alive and away from any severe health related aspects to C-19....

Calamity forces people to ask fundamental questions: What is a community for? How is it put together? What are its basic needs? How should we provide them?

CDC guidelines.

Since we don’t know yet if you will develop COVID-19, you will need to self-quarantine for 14-days from the day when you were exposed to the virus. You should not go to work or out into the community to run errands or attend events. Ideally, you should stay in a separate part of the house from others who live with you, preferably in a bedroom by yourself, and use your own bathroom that no one else uses during this time. Specific instructions for quarantine are available on the CDC website.

A close contact to a patient with confirmed or probable COVID-19 should be notified of their exposure as soon as possible (within 24 hours of contact elicitation). The patient may elect to notify some or all of their close contacts before the contact tracer

about 80% of people who are infected with the new coronavirus will either experience mild symptoms or be completely asymptomatic. "We expect that someone with mild symptoms will recover within a week to 10 days,"

COVID-19 tests

Quidel’s test, called the Sofia, looks for bits of coronavirus proteins, or antigens, instead of genetic material. It is less accurate than P.C.R.-based tests. But it takes only 15 to 30 minutes to run, using a toaster-size instrument, and costs about $23, compared with $50 or more for a typical P.C.R. test.

nytimes.com/2020/11/02/health/coronavirus-testing-quide

At this time the antigen (false negatives results) are a bigger concern, are unclear on how they complement P.C.R based testing.

Do you have health insurance? It should be covered... if you get checked quarterly, it should just be your copay for labs.  If you don’t have health insurance, it’ll be pricey no matter where you go. Check with planned parenthood to see if they have any discounted testing if you don’t have coverage.

I would be remiss if I didn't put forth this basic information to the user-group;

In general please take the proper precautions by using a designated covering for all activities to protect against COVID-19, or any STD for that matter. The Flu season is approaching and from what I understand getting a Flu shot by the end of October can return the best benefit to get through winter.

Everyday life from the 1980's with HIV now to 2020 there is absolutely no reason to attempt to go uncovered,  please play safe with all things covered. When it comes to STD's with resistance strains of gonorrhea/chlamydia there is no room for error.

Most every one could get quarterly testing. Going in for a repeat just to be 100% sure would be a  recommendation. The G & C panel testing can be repeated every 2 weeks. They are the most common infections amongst sexually active adults. Most insurances do not have a limitation on STD testing. They’d rather prevent the spread than have to cover the treatments which are more expensive.

I don’t want to down play (G & C) as STDs. However, a shot of antibiotics and a dose of an oral antibiotics will cure them, usually seven days then gone.

If you feel there is a need with any event, please get tested.

Going forward let it be known by rule and guidance any individual that has contracted a transmissible condition will need to notify those they have been in close contact with so there is no doubt on how those individuals can do followup tracing...

Thanks for the information
