Wow. This guy was seriously evil and I'm glad she was able to kill him.

Not to freak you out even more, but I'm not sure what screening would do if this guy was merely a maniac who had not yet been caught. He would appear "innocent" and not LE, and thus would probably pass screening. If "screening" included references, well, I guess that's safer. Jack the Ripper killed prostitutes in London, primarily because they were easy targets. It all sounds like yet another good argument for legalization.

She could have contacted his employer, talked to his boss and found he was a serial killer. this is the only reason why a provider would request your work information.

Only you could try to turn this thread into a joke. How old are you?

What a sicko. We need a Charles Bronson type a la Death Wish advertising on BP in drag. ;)

I agree, that's why references (reliable ones) are important. While clients can (and do) go bad...it does diminish the possibility of bad things happening if the client has seen recent providers and everything went well. This is not 100%, nothing is...but it makes it somewhat safer.

This is also why I will turn away clients who show up under the influence, as being in that state can change people and their personalities significantly. I've only had to do that twice so far.

This is why I preach about a real name. Screening as we know it is pointless. I am sure his references would have checked out, or he had a handle that he was willing to share. Screening wont stop crazy but having a real name makes it easier for the cops to chase down your murderer. Ted Bundy was very charming...

This woman is a hero by all rights, she saved her own life and potentially many others but she was lucky. Having weapons around sure is helpful but not always. Is it within reach? Are you actually strong enough to bring down someone bigger and stronger, is there enough time? The stars aligned for this woman and the Universe lent a helping hand but we all know that isn't the reality for all providers.

The truth is that not all providers get equal access, this isn't a network of caring and friendly providers in Denver. Some get help, some don't. Screening needs to become a more self-reliant process, the focus needs to be on personal safety and not how to tiptoe around guys who don't want to screen because of "BSC providers".

This scenario is every provider's worst nightmare. Hopefully some of the more screening resistant guys will finally understand the potential scary shit that can happen.

While I agree with your basic premise, for both provider & client, that's not what happened in this case according to her interview. The only weapon the provider had was a rake. When HE set his gun down to grab the rake from her, she grabbed his gun & shot over her shoulder. The rest is history.

Yes, I'm glad an evil person is off the streets and a provider is safe.

It should be a good argument but the puritans just say "hopefully her eyes are opened and she can pick a better path in life"

I have been saying this all along about screening but it seems to go unheard. Screening, including references, is usually not helpful at all in the event of a real emergency. If a serial killer prefers blonde victims than all the brunettes are going to give a good reference. With the right determination nothing is impossible and there is no amount of anything that we can do to prevent certain situations. We can, however, leave clues.

I didn't say anything happened. Is it just instinct to tell me I am wrong? I was replying to Justina's post about having a weapon around and how that often doesn't really matter.

P.S.

We read the same article. I am aware of how it happened

I agree that a real name may help find the killer, but that does not help the woman who was killed. It could, however, help future ladies to NOT get killed. It's all moot anyway because real names are not going to be shared. I agree that references are the best insurance. If he has not been a wacko in the past, the odds are good he won't be a wacko now. The same goes for her.

I said references offer no assurance. I also didn't say a real name would help the victim be safe but it helps in other ways. There is evidence that shows who the victim was with and it helps point LE in the right direction.

This point is true regardless of your role, client or provider.

But let's not turn this into another 'real name' thread.

Back on Thanksgiving day in 2005, I was stabbed by a client who had passed screening and had references so it is possible that soneone just loses it....I was very lucky that I am the size that I am and grew up with several brothers who liked to fight or things would have ended far differennt than they did....However, at the time it happened I had a warrant for a minor traffic infraction so I was arrested but only after I had already mended my injuries with a bottle of superglue myself, so it has been my own experience that LE if worthless in just about every situation we might encounter them in so I believe self defense is a must for anyone in this business....Just saying....

Justina, good for you. You should have weapons. You have the right to protect yourself. I too have many different types of weapons, I will use them to protect myself if I need too.

Im sorry this happen to you. Even screening doesn't make a difference. When it comes to our safety. If someone wants to hurt us they will.

This woman was incredibly brave. Not because she was an escort, screening, "real names" BS...

Because, as a human being she had moxy, she was prepared; took responsibility for herself under ANY circumstances...she kicked M-F ass!

What would any of you do? Easy to give advice..."shoulda, coulda, woulda?"

The first thing any self-defense instructor, cop will tell you..."never have a weapon you do not want to be used on you".

Any one can talk a good game when not under threat...and that is all they are doing is "talking" and some predators know it and even seek out big talkers?

You can buy mace, stun-guns...shit-a flipping gun for that matter.

But, if you do not know basic self defense and have practiced it...you are not prepared to defend yourself...you may be able to scramble and find your weapon and it will easily be used against you-are you prepared for that? The worse possible outcome. This chic was.

Hell...we go to the store, get gas and in any moment can be car-jacked, pulled around the corner...what the hec are you going to do then?

This issue far exceeds "escorting, screening and real names"...this chic just happen to be prepared, in a realm that sometimes attracts sociopaths...the same folks we all could have met in public on any given day.

First and foremost we all need to keep ourselves safe and only we as individuals are responsible for that...we can't excuse or blame it on circumstances/others. Dealing with other human beings is a societal issue/risk we all face, everyday...so just be safe and prepared not to just defend yourself...the worse outcome because you had to defend yourself?

Take a self defense class, CPR-be responsible and prepared to "do what it takes" should the need arise.

This realm is suppose to be discrete, mutual and fun...lets all do a part to keep it that way.

:P

A guy who has ulterior motives to harm [snip} or murder..is hardly going to be the type of guy who is forthcoming in their identity when they walk in the door. Prudent ladies..have a system where if they disappear or are harmed seriously...someone in their life will know where to look to see who they met last...so that police can be contacted. It was always real life info in the past that kept providers safe from those types in most cases.. If it was my personal home..I know i would not just let an anonymous guy walk in.. There's ways of screening to make both parties feel comfortable and this is a case of someone meaning to do harm that felt he would not get caught...you wonder why that is. hmm Thank God she is OK. RIP to the possible others he killed.
