So I also got burned by this guy have all his personal info ladies.  Sent Uber for me I arrived he sent venmo to me I tried to transfer it to my account it said transaction failed and to contact the sender.  It looked like I had received it but it doesn’t go through to your bank account.  Additionally he ordered Uber for my by the time I got downstairs he had cancelled it.

This guy is a local guy. He seems to be a new client to the ladies that are visiting him. I'm sure he has an ATM close by. I guess I don't understand why the ladies aren't asking him to go pull the cash for the visit. I get the convenience of it all, but if he can't take the time and put in the effort to have everything in order prior to you arriving, do you really want to see him? Again I can see a deposit through the apps prior to the visit, but thats about it.

  • I had someone I did an estimate for ask about  zelle/paypal/venmo/cash app. I told him I take cash, check, or credit card. Those apps were developed to send money when you can't be there in person. I have to be there in person to do the work.
  • It's the same with an escort. You both have to be there, for her to do her job. Paying with an app makes no sense.
  • However, criminals like this scammer will find some way to cheat and steal.

When i accept cashapp(rarely) as i lost my paypal due to an angry SO of a client last year......i require a deposit beforehand. And i transfer it INSTANTLY (for a fee). I had a client who tried to cashapp me (over 500) and it wouldn't ever process.  🤷‍♀️

Cash is king.... but as a lady who grew up with technological conveniences..... i wish i could use it more. I always have my phone.....and even national banks arent everywhere i travel.

Sorry this happened to you! I think this is criminal not sure what you can do about it but share it with others. If he is a TOB member I would let an admin know maybe they can get him off the site at least.

I know that Paypal transactions can be reversed if they're not "Friends and Family" transactions but neither Venmo or CashApp allow reversals.  I specifically use Venmo for occasional online sales where a person wants something I'm selling shipped to them.  I don't accept PayPal for these as it opens the door for them to claim non-receipt (even when tracking info says otherwise) and get their money back and keep the item sold.

Also, for those unaware:  There are settings in both apps to allow your friends to see your transactions or not.  It's on by default by I always turn those off.

Venmo is owned by paypal. Keep that in mind when using them for transactions!

Though they dont allow reversals anybody can cancel a payment thru their bank.

If you connect your debit card or link directly to your bank account the transactions show on their side like a wire transfer. That doesn’t receive the same protection as a credit card so once it’s completed there’s practically no recourse for the person sending.

You’ve mentioned getting burned. Can you offer any details on exactly what happened? I’m more curious than anything since there are so many measures in place to ensure you can’t immediately reverse transfers and people have figured out how to use that to their advantage and run scams (there’s a ton of stories online) I’d like to know how it fell apart. And it sucks that someone fucked you over like that.

I did not know that. Thanks! My handle is close to my provider name so I'm pretty sure they would know what it was for anyway. They know what I do. Still, they don't need to be all up in my business like that. They might start asking me for money. 😋

Yeah turn all that off. I’m all for using the apps and really don’t have much to hide but even before I started using it here I had that visibility disabled.

I’m not so sure that canceling a bank payment to Venmo would cause a reversal against the payee.  Once you send that transaction, filing a claim at the bank level is no different than using that method to get out of any bill owed.  It’s no longer the payee that is in question.  It’s the payer filing a complaint against Venmo or CashApp.  It would also be hard to make that a regular practice and it’s asking the bank to do a fraud inquiry.  In any case, I’m not going to argue that anything is fool proof but that includes cash.  We talk a lot about an electronic trail being usable against you but having a large amount of cash on hand can also be.  It gets used against people involved in drug busts all the time.

Isn't this exactly what the 2 providers posted this alert about. It doesn't seem to be too hard if he has done this to 2 TOB ladies. Thats just the ladies who posted alerts on him here. I do think Venmo will catch on eventually if they haven't already though. It's sketch.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what the background to it all is.  I'm under the impression that PayPal, CashApp and Venmo were used in this post interchangeably as one and the same thing.

Here's a good writeup of some of the differences between these apps (https://www.magnifymoney.com/blog/news/zelle-fraud-protection-need-know-transferring-funds/).  Most people think "electronic" = PayPal and any other names are the same thing.  Venmo was originally marketed as a way to pay your friends at the dinner table without having to have a waiter split a bill up.  There's no protection with Venmo, Zelle and CashApp.  These apps were made to act as cash given to someone trusted or seen in person.  PayPal was created to delivery money to someone at a distance that you can't see and may not have 100% trust towards so protection may be desired for those transactions.  Venmo and CashApp are the preferred choice for scammers that want you to pay before the session because they know you can't get that money back when you find out the provider doesn't even exist.

Allegedly, more than one person has been to the loft.  Anyone check to see who owns it? Property ownership records (including town homes and condos)are public.

It does seem really crazy to me that someone would want to have outcalls to his home and then scam them.

Edit:  As I think about this...it's really, amazingly crazy or dumb.  Like wanting to be caught.  Why would anyone do this?

The criminals I've met (those who live by theft and deception) are very intelligent, but also mentally ill. I think that's why these kind of dichotomies exist.

They come up with devious plans to get something for nothing, but forget about the followup consequences.
