Exponential SPAM increase

16 posts in this topic

Something else I've noticed related to the roll out of the new site here at TOB:

I have a generic email account that I created several years ago specifically for this board and use for this board only.  In the history of it's existence it has received only a handful of spam emails, maybe 1-2 per month.  However, since the roll out of the new board it receives about 10 per day or more, all related to porn or free/easy sex.

Anyone else notice that the email list has been sold?

No the email list has NOT been sold NOR would we ever do that! There have been issues for years with TOB getting mail to users as ISPs block them. We are glad that you are getting the emails now:)

I get fair amount of spam to my hobby e-mail account (5-10). All it takes is one ASP to click on a link in their e-mail, and boom! Or one's Ashley Madison account leaked. Or some other hookup site selling your info.

And hence, my burner hobby account does not tie back to anything real about me (eg. Recovery e-mail addresses go to other burner accounts).

Hmmm....Fair enough, I withdraw my accusation.  I just thought it was quite a coincidence that there was such a dramatic increase around that same time.

Thanks!

I have a Yahoo account for TOB, and have not noticed any increase in spam.  Besides, when I do receive SPAM, it usually goes right to my Spam folder.  Maybe check your email account settings if it's showing up in your current inbox

It all does go straight to the spam folder, but the little number in parenthesis tells you how many are there, that's where I noticed the increase.

I use Gmail for TOB and don't get any spam on my Gmail account.  Now my work account which is for work only, DAMN I get 300-400 spam/junk emails a day.

I have not gotten any spam in my hobby email, either before or after the change-over.

I haven't noticed an increase in spam with the account I use for TOB.

The only increase in spam I've noticed has been 'on the board' with VIAK 'look at me' & 'me too' posts, mostly by one individual.

I have had a huge increase in spam to my TOB email account, which used to get absolutely none. The spam started immediately after the hackers published the Ashley Madison database. LOL! I signed up with AM a couple of years ago and it was immediately apparent that it was a silly scam, and since they charge you a fee to (not) delete your account, I left mine open and for all I know it is still there. Suddenly, 20 sex-spam emails a day on my unused email account.
