Ahhh, not sure how one believes in a question - if there are the statistically indicated number of alien civilizations why have we not observed any and why have they not visited? Why are they not here? There are numerous and clear possible answers to the "paradox". This rock we call earth has been here around 4.2 billion years. Yet transmission of simple audio via electromagnetic carrier waves (radio) first happened only 120 years ago. If (when in my opinion!) we concoct ways around the speed of light speed limitations we will absolutely need some much faster and practical means of communication. The same would likely apply to other civilizations in terms of extremely short window of opportunity for us to have been detected. And we would have had to have been looking for it in the right area at the right time. So it is absolutely no surprise we have not detected other life - yet. As to why they are not here - well, thousands upon thousands of reports from everything from military pilots to normal folks indicate that may be a false boundary condition to the question!! Whether one believes in intelligent design (creation of some sort. me, me!) or pure accident (evolution) logic, statistics and just plain math makes it extremely, extremely unlikely that we are alone in the universe. The Fermi question was indeed an interesting question but it does nothing to actually answer the real questions. Lastly, as far as not here ...... if you had the ability to travel all over the galaxy and all the other science wonders that would come with such technology and you reviewed the state of our civilization looking at even just 2020 would you remotely want to associate with us or would the "federation" call this little out in the boonies rock a no fly zone until further notice?
