Tips for tracing email?

24 posts in this topic

So I have recently been receiving emails from a person who claims to be "Russ"  - the emails are riddled with venom, insults, and bits and pieces of my private information.  The first time - I simply ignored and deleted.  But now that three more have been received within the last 3 days - I am wondering if there is a way to trace the emails and figure out who this "Russ" is?  Does anybody have any tips , knowledge, advice on this?  Thanks!  Muah!

This is where a provider only board would be helpful. I had this happen to me by a man that I never met. He figured out exactly who I was, and threatened to tell my employer. If someone is determined to find out who you are, well they can. It goes both ways. A computer savvy man can ID us, if he really wants to. In my case, I had the help of another sweet and kind longtime provider to sort things out.  In the end, the most effective things were to block him and ignore him. You can put his info on verifyhim, but they just change their emails, numbers, ect.

I have been getting "MANY" these for few years now. Im used this daily harassment. Its become a normal part of my life. One of them is "Kill Nikki Holiday". They keep creating new emails as I report them. There are many other emails that are being used to cyber stalk several other providers including myself. Some of these where blacklisted before I was working in Colorado. Some of them have been reported to our local police department and the FBI. You have two choices.

Choice #1: Ignore it and move on.

Choice #2: If you feel you can't ignore it, and your in danger take the following actions:

  • Report it to your local police department
  • Report to FBI Cyber Stalking.
  • Blacklist it on all forms.
  • Report it on all the forms. Don't post it on Eccie that your reported it, you'll get banned for 1yr, I know from personal experiance. So be carefull where you post it, so you don't get Banned.

Great advice Nikki.

In saving the e-mails, don't just copy/paste to a .doc file.

Save the entire e-mail.

EYE STRAIN CORNER: No trees were injured in the creation of this mail, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

Chances are this person isn't using a real email address.  But you can always try googling the email address to see if he is as dumb as he is mean.  If you can't see it, you can always view the message header to see what it is just Google "email header Gmail" (substituting whatever mail service you use) for instructions. You can always go through a reverse-lookup site it you want to as well. Spokeo is pretty comprehensive. It searches dozens of social media sites. Ironically, this is exactly what I do when I am researching a new provider so I can feel safe and secure.

Unfortunately, some people are simply broken and can only feel good about themselves by bringing others down.  In reality, your best option is probably to ignore the emails.  You can always report the as spam or create a filter to automatically delete them.

Stay safe!

In my case with the emails, it was a provider doing it.  I traced her IP address from her ads and posts.  Once I called her out they stopped but I saved everything so if they want to continue I can turn in all the information to the right people.  Hopefully calling them out put a stop to it, but from when I have heard from other ladies she does this often.  She tries to chase girls away. Then makes herself seem better so the guys go to her instead.  I am pretty sure this is the same in this situation. I think it's comical though,  catty nonsense instead of just being a good provider.  It's cute really.

You could possibly contact the admins here and ask if they could check if the email address matches a user here... and if you have the IP it was sent from and they keep IP logs here they might be able to track it that way.  Its a long shot but might be doable..

I may be naïve, but I only see a purpose to reporting cyber bullying and harassment in our real lives. I am not even comfortable clicking on a link that says FBI or federal anything from an escort site. Talk about handing out our IP address to the wrong people.

Again forgive me if I am being completely naïve, but would the conversation look something like this:

Hello FBI,
I am known escort in Denver. Now, I understand that what I am dong is completely illegal in every way, but I am being cyber bullied. Can you please help me?

Some hours later:
(knock knock)
"Who's there?"
(Your 2 o'clock)
door opens
"Oh why did you bring handcuffs?"

The op mentioned 'the emails are riddled with venom, insults, and bits and pieces of my private information." Which is why I post the link. The op would be reporting a crime. The police and FBI are not there to discuss what she dose for a living.  Yes, she will have explain where it came from. After getting 100's of hate mail, I contacted a lawyer and got legal advise before contacting the our local police department and FBI when I report the harassment. I had no trouble in reporting the harassment. She doesn't have to discuss any of her services or what she does.

If you ever decide to get out of the business I could totally see you as a defense attorney for girls dealing with legal troubles concerning the hobby or human trafficking.

I can see you in court with your hair tied up, your passionate personality and your take charge attitude. I think you'd be a Rock Star ;-)

I thought the exact same thing!!! People are too quick in an illegal business to Call the police and FBI.  My snips life had to be in danger before I did that! !

I can handle idiots online.  Especially with my gang of nerds that can take a few clicks to figure it out.

Meh. You'd get an IP off an email. Might be his. Might be the public library. Could be McDonalds wifi. Might be a VPN. Won't matter anyway. Can't link a name to an IP without a warrant. And the cops already know she's an escort. They can see the ads same as I can. They can have her name by 9am if they want it. It's not legal to send threats over the internet. Doesn't matter if the target is an escort or a nun. If she thinks she's in danger she should call a cop.

They believe someone with the fictitious name of Hooker Jane, with pictures of possibly herself, with a burner phone and burner e-mail may be attempting to be a provider.  Not a lot of evidence to get a warrant, how is LE going to get her name?

Last I checked, one can't be arrested or charged for the "Potential" to be a hooker... Otherwise, all of us boys would be crying as all the vaginas would be under lock and key!

Don't need to arrest someone to serve an ISP with a search warrant.

The search warrants become a little more difficult when you are trying to serve them in the UK where TOB is based.  LE is not going to go to the trouble of that for the ladies here.  However, when one's stalker seems to know a lot about the lady, sending LE after him can be pretty counter productive.

I will provide an example:

I work for a company where a bumbling security guard and her son had stolen $100,000 in laptops and another $100,000 in other computer components.  They had got away mostly clean until the son told a friend about the heist.  The friend wanting a piece of the action, decided to write himself a $5,000 check with the mom's checkbook.  When the two bungling criminals turned the kid into LE, he quickly told LE about the thefts and currently mom and son are in prison and the friend is scott free.

Moral of the story, when performing questionable activities it is best not to bring to the attention of LE people with warts that can expose your own warts as well.

It's actually easier in the UK than the US. Don't need a warrant. Just a request from a cooperating police force. US doesn't have strong internet privacy laws. But they're stronger than the UK's. Ask the British lady who was cyberstalking a US astronaut. But anyway, they don't need a warrant to get her IP address off a webpage. So I don't follow your argument. Why would they need to serve a warrant to ToB?

An IP address tells you a few basic things about that communication. One of those things is who the Internet Service Provider (ISP) is. Comcast, Verizon, Century link, et al... who are not based in the UK. A warrant, or sometimes a Memorandum of Understanding, means the ISP will match the IP to a customer name. Pretty simple.

All that doesn't matter much. The disagreement is whether she should call a cop if she's feels she's in danger. The answer is yes. Maybe some people think she should wait it out. Get smacked around a little, maybe outed, then call. Bad advice imo, but to each their own.

Thanks everybody!  I have "blocked" this person on my gmail (which only sends his/her emails to my spam folder) and have decided to ignore it and simply better "prepare" myself should this lowlife scumbag arrive at my incall.  This is the first time since I've been in this business (almost a decade) that I've dealt with something like this.  Very disturbing.  Extremely immature and all around not cool. Thanks for the input and advice.  You guys/gals rock! xoxo

TNA recently incorporated Colorado back to their listings and they too have a providers only space. I appreciate ECCIE but personally can't stand that place, it's a little overwhelming for me.

The problem is the police DGAF about providers. LE isn't known for treating marginalized populations with dignity. Providers going to the police have to be careful, it puts you on their radar and at risk. Sex work stigma doesn't magically dissipate when you need the police.

Have you ladies read VH lately?

Looks like we have a dangerous man on the prowl. Escorts are his targets. All you have to do his read his websites. Hacking and sending out hate mail and he posted he's going after escorts. Its public knowledge. Hes already hit me, if look at his hit list he posted on twitter. Looking like Daniella Rae is next. If you read his about him this explains the hate mail for all of us. If I where you, I would be concerned. But its your decision in whatever you make. I hope you have gun, and way to protect yourself. You never know what this person might do to bring harm upon you or others.

Eccie You can post anything you would like, as long as you stay within their guidelines and you don't try to act like the hooker police!

ECCIE is not a Colorado board. It never will be unless TOB is shut down. Eccie is great if your touring. Since I am semi retired and enjoying life, ECCIE is no loss for me. I do not blame others for getting banned. I shouldn't have admitted to reporting harassment. Thats the reason I was banned. Life goes on.
