Yay! Another Rates Thread!

29 posts in this topic

So, when I first started posting, I started on craigslist (because I keep shit classy), which was free at the time, and then I eventually moved on to backpage, which also was free. Nearly 7 1/2 years later "free" is a thing of the past.

When backpage first started charging, I think they charged the like two or three dollars to post. And then it was five. And then it was seven. And it was 10. And, lo and behold, I login yesterday, and we are up to $12 per post. Awesome!

On the bright side, it HAS slowed down the postings, which obviously is a good thing for those of us that are going to continue to pay the greedy bastards that run backpage.com.

now if the providers can just start using Times New Roman font for their ads instead of whatever you call that hieroglyphic shit that's nearly impossible to read . . .

Does this mean that you think anyone who raises their rates are "greedy bastards"?

I noticed a dramatic drop in posts on BP myself back around April. As I haven't been doing this long I was wondering if it was a typical slow time of the year. But then it continued. Then last week I stumbled on a article last week that mentioned the BP price increase. Didn't keep the link to the article but in a nutshell it said that prices went up, postings dropped dramatically and site traffic dropped off as a result.

I think this illustrates why BP has been unwilling to cave to the pressure CL gave in to when they axed their adult section. BP doesn't have the additional traffic sources that CL did and would take a massive hit to profitability if they lost that revenue.

No point really . . . just my thoughts.

This made me laugh so hard!...then slam my laptop shut.

Vanilla Friend 1: "What's so funny?"

Me: "Oh, nothing."

To be honest, I don't blame Backpage. They had a service that used to be free, they got a lot of users, so, they decided to throw in a cost (that would still be considered cheap), see what they could get, then add a little more, then.......... Same as anything else, they can choose to add a cost, increase their cost, or whatever else. All I see is an opportunity for others to offer roughly the same service at no cost, less cost, or whatever else. The default to that is, sometimes the once big thing loses sight of what originally brought them more traffic, and it can cause them to lose out in the long run. To some it's still worth it, or was worth it, to some it's not. It's all greed to varying degrees. Some go after short-term, some want long-term, and some try to find some sort of balance to still make a profit, but not overstep. So, many providers are dropping off backpage..........where else are they going? Competition and capitalism at its finest. That's just me.

A few years ago when ad pricing was in the 5-7 dollar range they sent out and email with a promotional code for a discount. Included in that email was the amount of money escort ads had made them hence the discount. The number was astronomical, I could not believe it.

It's an odd move on BPs part and we will see how that works for them. If their pricing structure was what it had been previously I would spend far more money on advertising, posting multiple times a day. I pay the fee now begrudgingly but I am happier to see more limited postings I will admit at least that.

Well said.

I've never liked the entitlement attitude that comes with calling someone a "greedy bastard" for having the audacity to charge a fee for a service.

If one is unwilling to pay the fee, one is free to go elsewhere.

I never liked the type of person that let something so trivial and petty as a local hooker calling somebody a greedy bastard bother them, but you don't hear me complaining.:P

In my opinion, if somebody calling somebody else a name bothers you, maybe you should take a break from this Internet forum and go for a walk, pet your dog, call your mother, go volunteer, plant a garden, go for a swim, read a book, or if you find it more suitable to let my petty words that mean nothing in the grand scheme of things bother you, well then, I feel so sorry for you I really don't mind my words being the center of your universe.

Now, back on topic. Backpage can do what ever they want as far as rates goes. If the demand is there, more power to them. If not, they will eventually lower the rate. I like and agree with what irisheyes said in his post.

Good come back. Very diplomatic. You should charge $12/post for your opinions.:o

i dunno, seems like with all the other overhead costs associated as a provider, a $12 price point doesn't seem too egregious

$12 a post. If I advertise every day (reminding you at only ONE post per day) it would come out to be $372 per month. That's more than my car payment every month. Does that sound more "egregious" to you?

egregious - that would be like putting a magnetic advertising sign on the car doors and eliminating BP fees ;)

If it's so egregious to you, advertise somewhere else

As we have learned from so many rate threads here on TOB -- the vendor has the right to charge what they want. The client has the right to shop elsewhere.

In the words of almost every provider who has ever posted in a rate thread....................

Backpage has the right to run their business however they want so stop telling them how to run their business. :D

$12 a post.

That's in Denver. It's only $7 in Colorado Springs. There's the free market for ya.

Come on down, ladies!

Totally agree av8r, and I see what Destiny is saying, and like they say "if you feel it, chances are others do to". So, if the providers are not posting on backpage to save on costs, where are they going then? What similar sites? I'm interested, I don't know.

Now, this is a rates thread, so I'm just going to throw it out there because a lot of us clients have costs just the same. If a provider posts on a free site to save on their own personal costs, are the rates still the same? I guess I just think if the provider is saving money, where would I be saving money? Sorry to bring it up, and I'm fully aware I can pay whatever is asked, or go elsewhere, but just wondering.

I don't post every day, and I don't mind paying the $12. I do mind them taking my pics down that are within their guidelines, and not answering my many requests for help. When I am paying someone $3k a year for advertising, on a static system, I expect customer service.

D- I get your rant. My monthly budget is 3k on ads- ladies gotta see the payoff. Ad goes live= "XX" calls.Advertising, hair, nails, tan, gym, new photos, special diet, trainer, upscale incall, supplies...

Im an old goat so... gotta keep up The Game.

And...The Game...is... expensive!

Free in the sex biz translates to never-ending scam and crap. Be thankful for paid forums which provide reasonably available and reliable service.

It is the Internet. Assholes, opinions and all that. No one ever seems to get that words on a board from anyone, including myself, carry no more weight than any individual(s) cares to impute to them. [shrug]
