Old Newbie Introduction

20 posts in this topic

Hi All,

I thought I'd just introduction myself.

I used to play occasionally many years ago (15 or so) and met one or two friends on this board. Alas the years have taken a toll and my mojo has deserted me, so it might be time to once again join the fray...

Things certainly have changed in the intervening years when things were a lot simpler when it came to meeting friends, but hopefully I can once again meet some of the fine ladies here in Denver.

Good luck to you, man, and may you meet new friends as amazing as the one's I've been fortunate enough to meet. No idea what it was like 15 years ago, but I can tell you, if you play by the rules, do things smart, and take proper precautions, you'll find yourself in amazing situations, and constantly be asking yourself "How did I get here?!?!"

Yep. You don't want to find your photo in The Coloradoan, that is for sure. Just follow the TOB rules and read the archives for edification.

Welcome back! So how did you meet ladies pre-Internet? I'm amazed at how many ladies are available on EB, P411, and BP. How many choices did you have back then? And how much,on average, did an hour of fun cost?

Actually, those are great questions! I can't imagine what it was like. But wish I had figured it out. I've always been a "late bloomer".

Welcome to the board. Educate yourself. Verify every provider you'd like to see (make sure she has reviews and is legit) Stay away from unreviewed ladies on BP since LE is trolling for johns and busting/shaming them by publishing their pics in the newspaper. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you're unsure.

+1! I would love to hear more about the days pre-internet. I'm currently reading a book about the early 1900's (1905ish) in Chicago and how they "paraded" the Ladies in the Brothels to give the Men a peek of what's behind the entryway doors.

Gore Vidal believed that promiscuity was natural for humans, and in the few books I've read of his brothels are featured in a positive light. What are you reading?

A lot of those answers can be hidden on TOB maybe not with such an easy to find, specific title but they're there. The really old timers like to wax nostalgic about the Rocky Mountain Oyster and payphones. Remember when backpage was literally the backpage of the Westword and there were printed ads?? I kinda wish I had been around in those days.

... So how did you meet ladies pre-Internet? ... How many choices did you have back then?

You could find agencies listed in the Yellow Pages and advertised in the Classified Section of the daily newspapers. There might be a few independents advertising in these venues, but not many. Eventually those got shut down by The Righteous.

You could also find similar advertising in the weekly newspapers, Chicago Reader, Rocky Mountain Oyster, Westword, etc.

If you knew where to go, there were still strip club/brothels in some parts of the country. Typical strip club up front, but with small bedroom facilities in the back. These often required membership, or at least being vouched for by a previous customer.

On rare occasions you could have a fun time with a stripper after closing, but I had a lot of Cash&Dash experience there. Add to that the expense of an evening at the club - not an economic solution. I seemed to have better luck with the travelling headliner than the local gals.

Then there were always street walkers. There used to be some real gems available on Colfax. But LE pressure has reduced this traffic to the dregs, both in talent & customers.

... And how much' date='on average, did an hour of fun cost?[/quote']

Adjusting for inflation, about the same as today. Back in the day I was an mid-level IT professional, or manufacturing engineer/manager, third quartile of the middle class. An 'up to an hour' (one pop) would cost 6-8 hours salary. An evening at the strip club up 1-2hrs; if you took someone home the same 6-8hrs. Street trade would run about 1hr of salary for a back seat quickie; half that for a BJ.

Keep in mind that independents were rare; most gals had a manager of some sort, even if that was just phone/booking service. GFE was also uncommon. The ease of advertising on the Internet has changed the trade considerably, fostering the introduction of truly independent business women.

While we complain about the quality of talent available on CL, and now BP, I haven't really seen much change in the number of scams (C&D, B&S, upsell, etc.) from the 'old' days. Human nature dictates a constant percentage of cheats. What the Internet has changed in that regard is the exchange of information between clients, alerting each other of these pitfalls.

Payphones & the two-call system:

Often that phone could be viewed by either the ASP or management. If they didn't like what they saw, they didn't answer. I knew one ASP who had you walk down the alley. If she liked what she saw, she called you in the back door; if not you could walk forever.

Other times the payphone was a mile away. But it started the clock, cheating you out of time. (You make the call at 1pm, the appointment time, but it would be 1:15 before you walked in the door. You were still expected to leave before 2pm.)

Bit, thanks for the info. Really interesting.

RE: The print ads in Westword or the Oyster, or even the phone book.

I can remember seeing them, and even thinking about calling, but even then there were the occasional well publicized police stings in Denver. And, I can remember the shame my father experienced: He picked the wrong girl and got robbed and beaten by a pimp. (Learned about this later in his life, during a candid moment.)

Looking at the print ads, with no photos, how did you choose? What made you say to yourself "this one will be a good experience, and that one won't."

How much did word of mouth matter? And in what circles did you have to run to get good info? And do any still operate that way today?

Finally: Bar girls. Did many providers hang out at the hotel lounges, looking for business?

Fascinating info, Bit. Truly. As a teenager, I would look at the back of the LA Weekly and be shocked/titilated by the brazen ads. I'm in my mid 40s and did not discover "the hobby" until a few years ago. I only know the Internet, but it sure seems as if the LA Weekly would gladly accept ad dollars from ladies who were obviously "working girls." I can remember visiting San Francisco in the 1980s and seeing the streetwalkers. I remember feeling incredibly sorry for them. But we're off the rails here. Bottom line for the newbie is that he has a lot more info available thanks to the Internet. The key is to actually use that info.

As a young pseudo-hippy long ago I was hitchhiking back to CO from FL and spent a few days with one trucker. As we would roll into certain cities working ladies would come through on the CB radio calling out to the truckers.

There were others who prowled the truck stop lots. I talked awhile with one who claimed she never asked for money, just food and clothing. This was back in 1980.

Well I'm not quite old enough to remember the pre-internet days, but thanks for asking! :)

My memory may be a bit cloudy, but I think this site was up and running with pretty much the same design as now. And Eros was around then too. Westword was the other resource, as someone else mentioned. I always thought those ads were a bit sketchy so I stuck to the internet.

I did most of my dating from Eros and this site. I'm not entirely sure on the donation, but I think it was around 200, some of the high end providers would ask for 300, though again my memory is a bit hazy. There was plenty of choice back then, much as there is now.

I think the major difference that struck me after lurking on here for a few weeks is how much more serious of a threat LE is. The only occasion I can think of when LE was brought up back in the day was when one lady made me undress in the hallway and put my clothes in a closet. It was kind of a turn on if I remember rightly. :)

Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it!

Jon

I suspect it's just talked about more. Everyone is paranoid.

Despite my only being in the hobby for a little over 4 years, I got my start with the ads in Westword. I've always picked up Westword to check out the music scene. The "adult services" ads caught my attention. I was too chicken to call an escort, but I did respond to one of two ads for body rubs. I was happy with the experience, so I would pick up a Westword each week to see if there were new provider adds for body rubs. When I didn't get a copy one day I figured: "Well they must be on line", so Googled Westword ads and, lo and behold, it took me to BP. My God, I thought I had died and gone to heaven!. All those gals everyday, and with pictures! That, of course, led me to BP escorts, and from there to EB/P411/TOB. So, despite my more recent start in the hobby, I too started with print ads:)

Gotta say, the opportunities and info nowadays are truly amazing, so as quaint as the old days sometimes sound, e.g. payphones, we don't know how good we have it, and that's true for the providers as well as the clients.

I joined TOB in Aug of 07 as 2degreesnorthofcntr. I am pretty sure that was the first time membership was requested or required. My handle is now oldertruckguy. Lots of changes. TOB was considerably different back then in so many ways. I remember the page of little boxes with pics, a phone number and very little else. I remember Bear's Board. Knew nothing of P411.

I have read threads in in the past about the good old days. I too can wax nostalgic. I will be happy to share memories and experiences if the thread continues. I know you youngsters grow tired of hearing about the good old days. Just a different world back then. And to think that was just 8 years ago.icon1.gif

15 years ago ..... holy shit, man, they had electricity then!?!? lol Welcome back. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Women are still fascinating, pussies are still best invention ever, and LE is still wasting time trying to stomp out any semblance of enjoyment. Be careful and enjoy.

I remember when we had to walk a mile to school every day, up hill both ways!

(True because there was a valley in the middle.)

😳😄😓💤

Yes, things were different. But we still got laid :D
