My dad who died twenty-one years ago on December 20, and who nearly lost his life on December 7, 1943 in the drive from Salerno to Monte Casino (the wound happened about a month before the "official" assault began). He served until the end of the war.

I was in the army during in Viet Nam, but like most never saw Nam.

Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women in the service of our country can never be repaid.

They have earned our undying gratitude. America will never forget their sacrifices.

THANK YOU HOLLY. As a veteran myself and the son and grandson of veterans and a father of an active duty son thank your for remembering. This is a special day for me as I have lost a grandfather and several very very close friends in the line of duty. We do owe a debt of gratitude to those who have served and are now serving. Because of them we still enjoy more freedom than most of the 7 billion people in the world. I will never forget!

Lets not forget the families of those who served. They also did and still do make a sacrifice.

In my case my mom who raised me for the first three years of my life, worked in the defense industry and helped care for my fathers Dad while he was serving in Europe.

Thank you to all who have served and are currently serving! Thank you for all of your sacrifices! Thank you to all of the families as well for their many sacrifices. The losses are great and many, but today is the day to remember those people with honor.

I totally agree the family is the backbone. If you can, try to attend a memorial day service for all of those who have served and their families who also sacrifice. (or at least take a moment and say thank you in your thoughts). I am one my way to one now. Thank you everyone!
