Posted July 29, 2013 Touchy subject here, I know. If it gets locked or deleted, I get it. I figured it's worth a try though since it is basically us that they are speaking of... http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/07/29/19754475-more-than-100-teens-rescued-in-weekend-sex-trafficking-raids-fbi-says?lite

Posted July 29, 2013 My real problem with this bust is that we consenting adults will get lumped together with the miscreants in people's minds. They will pass more laws trying to control the situation, laws then used to punish us. The Dutch, recognizing human behavior, provide a legal venue for consenting adults and crack down on traffickers. I am glad these evil individuals have been removed from our streets.

Posted July 29, 2013 (edited) They nailed 6 pimps in the Denver area. Pimps are the lowest form of scum on the planet. Out of the 45 cities where the operation was conducted, we ranked #4 for the number of [snip] victims recovered (9 if you're curious). Totally disgusting. We also had a ton of pimps in Denver vs the average national city which is disconcerting as well. Until these stats change, Denver will remain a main city in their crosshairs. http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/105-juveniles-recovered-in-nationwide-operation-targeting-underage-prostitution Copy and paste the links please Edited July 29, 2013 by The Oxymoron
Posted July 29, 2013 (edited) an indelicate reality A reasonable revision. Another 'fact' to consider: 105 at-risk [snip] were saved and 150 pimps collected. How many millions of $s, at all levels of government, did it cost? Edited July 29, 2013 by The Oxymoron
Posted July 29, 2013 (edited) A reasonable revision. Another 'fact' to consider: 105 at-risk [snip] were saved and 150 pimps collected. How many millions of $s, at all levels of government, did it cost? Sometimes it's just about the bigger picture. That is 105 at risk unmentionables that may get a more reasonable shot at life or were removed from harmful situations. There are now 150 pimps currently not able to make any money or potentially put unmentionables in harms way. 150 pimps could be responsible for hundreds even thousands of unmentionables in this business and to have them removed from the equation makes me rest easier at night. There is a fair amount of incriminating the innocent, but any and all who participate in this biz whether aware or unaware make the wheels turn and make it possible for those with less honorable intentions to screw things up for everyone. "We" the people of this biz can suck it up and accept the consequences or we can stand up to our local government and show them that mature, responsible consenting adults participate in this business. Since no one is hopping on the train to do the former I guess we suck it up and hope we don't caught. Edited July 29, 2013 by The Oxymoron
Posted July 29, 2013 hey Lovely Ms. L, thanks for putting up that link. maybe even some of the TLDR knuckleheads will take the time to look and learn
Posted July 30, 2013 thanks, Bit. i'm nothing if not reasonable. the question is, what is it worth to save 100+ young women's (hope that's PC enuff fer ya) lives - not to mention putting 150 bad men in jail in one fell swoop? i'd put that amount up against virtually any other government LE budget item

I saw in this article that the lawyer for Backpage has an interesting defense: Backpage cooperates with law enforcement by providing "inside information" about escort ads, such as the web address from which the ad was placed. If escort ads were forced off Backpage, the ads would probably migrate to an offshore site which would be less cooperative with US law enforcement. Worth a thought.
Posted July 30, 2013 We've seen this movie before, several times, and the result is not pretty. But perhaps this time LE is being more pragmatic, realizing the time they lost chasing the market from CL to BP, and that the next move for the market may put the advertisers out of their jurisdiction. LE seems (from reading the ColoSeeker's link) to favor a "red light district" they can control instead of driving the trade underground, possibly beyond their reach. I would also point out that tech companies cooperating with LE with similar information (helping to pierce the anonymity of the Internet) was part of the recent "spying" scandal. I'm currently reading Upstairs Girls, Prostitution in the American West. It describes similar debates occurring over a century ago.
Posted July 30, 2013 (edited) Pimps are bad enough, but these wannabe pimps [snip} and will result in serious additional penalties for any "John" who unknowingly patronizes them, are a bane on the sex work industry as a whole. Inexcusable heinous shit. Edited July 31, 2013 by boink36 Forbidden topic removed.

Personally I hope they skin the asses off of anyone involved with minors. After reading police reports and being familiar with what BP has done in past cases, I ran this through Boink's hobby translator and this is what this really means- BP cooperated by giving the credit card info of the ad purchaser to the Feds. It's no secret they have done that in the past.
