This month's Vanity Fair has an interesting write-up about Alexis Wright, the Kenebunkport (yeah, you heard that right), Maine, uh, fitness and Zumba instructor, who ran a prostitution and online porn business as a sideline.

Police discovered that she and her 57 year old lover had secretly recorded videotapes of her having sex with her clients. All in all, the police were able to recover identifying information on 178 clients, a number of them have already been charged, with all the names to be released within the coming months.

So much for "your information is safe with me".

Have not read the article, but along the lines of the "your info is safe", a couple of weeks ago, the court ruled John's have no right to privacy in that they were involved in criminal activity, so, invasion of privacy charges were dropped.

Good news for defendant, bad news for the Johns.

It's easy to tell the difference. One you get to screw and the other one get's to screw you over. Personally I think that prostitutes are being insulted whenever they get lumped in with politicians.

“Places of prostitution and people who knowingly frequent them to engage a prostitute are not sanctioned by society. Accordingly, it is objectively unreasonable for a person who knowingly enters a place of prostitution for the purpose of engaging a prostitute to expect that society recognizes a right to be safe from surveillance while inside,” the court stated.

A dangerous precedent to be sure.

According to the article in VF, the list is pretty vanilla; no big names, just a bunch of local yokels, minor-minor town celebs, and the usual array of hypocrites (local members of churches, etc.)

The article also states that a few of the busted Johns tried to slip out of it by claiming they were actually Mrs. Zumba's boyfriend. Uh. Huh.

The working girl not only faces misdemeanor charges for prostitution but also charges for tax evasion.

This case has all the hallmarks of the incredible stupidity you often see in this business - on both sides, I might add. Johns shitting where they're eating, some shady pimp/boyfriend operating in the background, complete disregard for the kind of attention a chick who looks like she belongs in a Brazilian porn movie with Rocco Siffredi is going to attract in a Maine backwater town, a history of sex work/porn readily available on the web, blatant disregard for tax laws, greed...the list goes on and on.

I don't feel sorry for any of the parties involved. I have an ex who is from Maine. Might check out the full list and see whether or not I recognize anyone.

It won't matter. You'll still see Johns handing over private information by the truckload. Consequences be damned.

I bought the issue and it was the best 5 bucks spent in a long time. The article was so fascinating. They think with how well she kept videos and records she was going to start extorting clients .
