Does anyone have any info regarding using FetLife or LinkedIn for Hobby related purposes?

Would you even think to look there?

I was on FL for like 6 months a few years ago when I was into the D/s lifestyle. It was extremely easy to set up an account but the part that sucked is that you had to be part of "groups" or have friends on the site in order to be taken seriously and not be deemed fake. It was annoying to say the least with all the banter and endless verification that I just went back to another bdsm site I was using at the time.

Linkedin will mine your e-mail account and send out unsolicited invites in your name. Without you knowing it.

I have received many invites to join that were not initiated by friends, nor were they sent with permission.

This, and one other hobby related, are the only "social media" sites I belong to.

LinkedIn isn't wise to use for hobby purposes. It as Johnboy says mines the shit out of your info. Fetlife works much like Kari said you have to join groups because that is how the site functions. They have a great group for kinky sex workers but advertising isn't really allowed except in certain areas. It can be overwhelming due to the numbers buy fetlife is a a great resource for all things kinky and many BDSM providers have profiles there. This is the wrong group to ask about fetlife, it is a BDSM site and caters to that crowd. There are plenty of people all over the world using fetlife to find paid and unpaid encounters but it's not a "hobby" site it's mostly a networking informative forum. It is what you make of it and you can build a profile with just about whatever info you want in there. I don't know what the rule is though with fs providers most of the BDSM providers aren't full service and provide more of a legal service.

Since I've started in the "hobby" I've received about 10-15 LinkedIn requests to connect but I don't have a profile on there. I've actually seen a provider have one but she isn't in Denver. I didn't really look at it to see how she worded things.

Thanks for the info on FetLife!

I've found fet life to be entirely worthless after a year. Lots of talk, no walk.

I got on fetlife about a year ago because I wanted to get into the kinkier side of life, but it's been difficult to even get a conversation going, let alone build a friend network. I got my first private message (after being on there for a year) from a dude that wants me to kick him in the balls. That's cool if it's what you're into, ya know? but just not my style. Maybe we should build a tob group on there?

Maybe (truenudists.com) worth a try .

As a card carrying nudist, I can say that nudism is NOT about sex. Make inappropriate advances in most nudist parks and you're likely to get 86ed.

There are a few parks acting as swingers' clubs, sometimes only on special holidays. But the majority of parks are family oriented w/the swinging sub-rosa.

I was a member of my home park for over a year before I learned who some of the players were. They went to a different park a few miles up the road for playtime on weekends.

Never heard of Fetlife. Have a profile on Linkedin, but haven't recieved any work from it and can't exactly see how any hobby action could take place on it. Outside of friend requests, its useless.

Facebook kinda works, but I really STILL get more work and hobby related fun on myspace daily. That said, you really can't beat the other board for the hobby. Bummer advertising is a no no here, but understand why.
