Revenge porn site operator gets 18 years

8 posts in this topic

You've probably seen something about this trial. The operator of ugotposted.com & changemyreputation.com just got 18 years for ID theft & extortion. I think the extortion aspect of his operation was the main issue.

I wonder if this case, or at least the ID theft portion, could be used against those who pose stolen images in the escort ads?

Personally, I think a public castration would have been a more suitable punishment. But I'm glad he gets at least substantial jail time.

It would be a fitting irony if he got ( snipped )in prison and someone posted the photos.

As you can tell, I think this guy is scum.

I saw this story earlier on dailymail. That punk cried like a little girl when his sentence was read to him. He deserves to spend every day of that 18 years behind bars. Truly the scum of the earth if you ask me.

Doubtful since reusing photos put into the public domain (posted online by owner) without copyright AND without personal information attached when "stolen" is pretty different from this. But it should have DIRECT bearing on the sites that harvest john and escort e-mails and numbers and extort them to remove their info from shaming sites.

Posting something online doesn't make it public domain. Not in the least -- unless you are using the term differently (perhaps a more proper phrasing would be "publicly accessible).

But most likely what's wrong with fake pics in those ads is copyright violation. I guess misrepresentation or fraud could be argued too but eh...

Good I'm glad he got sentenced. Make an example out of him. How dare he and other guys profit or get off by putting up things taken in private because they were trusted by the girl they used to date. This really bothers me.
