no less an authority than mydailymoment.com has just released the '5 web sites that should never pop up (ahem ...) on your man's browser'

1. porn sites

2. gay sites

3 dating sites

4. spy sites

5. 'married or cheating type of sites' (but this refers to matching up married people with each other for mutual cheating)

looks like t.o.b. missed the cut

What's a spy site? I think I have 4 of the 5 on that list. I find multiple browsers and at least 2 different email accounts is pretty good cover.

All about your browser setting. If your browser has a function that allows you to block all tracking cookies, you will be fine. I use Firefox.

1. Set google as your home screen.

2. Clear out cookies and history at the end of each session.

3. Don't store compromising websites in your browser's bookmarks folder.

4. Regularly scan your computer for spy/malware/rootkits/keystroke loggers/etc.

5. Don't let anyone play with your rig (set up a password for access). Or, alternatively, have a second computer that other people can use.

6. Store your porn on a separate encrypted harddrive.

7. Never write anything on the web or in emails that could be grounds for legal action against you.

8. Have separate email accounts for various parts of your hobby.

9. Do not, let me repeat, DO NOT create a unified inbox for all your email accounts.

This isn't rocket science.

Yep.

And going at it from a provider angle, if you have a personal Facebook profile, go into the privacy settings and make sure only friends can see your stuff.

Last few days, a couple of new providers popped-up on my radar, and long story short, Googling lead to some of these providers having wide-open Facebook sites. And in turn, found more providers Facebook sites that are on the friends list of said providers. Lots of vacation pictures, real names, photos of family, etc. Which in turn, can lead to other leads, if someone wants to screw with you (in not a fun way).

great post, 2b.

granted, a lot of those things are common sense but it seems that there are increasingly complex tracking technologies out there so it's a good 'heads-up' so to speak

i have to admit tho, i was thinking something else when i first read #5 - lol

I use "In Private" browsing which is available on most browsers. I am sure this keeps me pretty clean. Anybody know of any loopholes with this procedure with respect to internet browsing?

Yes if a wife\GF\etc puts a keylogger or monitoring software on...your fcked.

Boot to a linux distro (or Windows one now for that matter) so data never touches the hard drive and when you shut off EVERY bit of evidence is gone (it all runs in ram). If you read "linux" and your hole puckered because all you know is windows...its still point and click if you choose correctly.

Also if you need to store passwords do so in a encrypted program like KeePass (its free).

If you want the ultimate protection encrypt your whole damn PC or laptop with TrueCrypt. Pro's and cons to the suggestion but if the FBI cant crack it, neither can your wife or GF.
