Oh. . but it's been claimed on here by someone that this is a huge criminal offense and no doctor or hospital would put their job at risk.....

So you just left out this bit to prove a point?

“We found a clerical error in one note stating that Mr. Short had COVID-19 which was resourced in completing the death certificate. The physician who completed the death certificate has already submitted his amendment to reflect the correct diagnoses and remove COVID-19 from the list. We sincerely apologize for any confusion this has caused.”

The family was notified and while skeptical, they were notified and the issue was promptly corrected

The OP is cherry picking phrases to try and prove a point.

Twitter would add in blue: this statement  is not factual and in fact is misleading.

You really should be ashamed. Trying to mislead us, is not the way to convince us.

Or because they was caught they had to come up with some story so they didn't get hit with charges.... the family made it a point that it was known he was negative and even said before he died that they would be mad if it said positive so they followed through and checked the cause of death.... how do you "accidentally" make a clerical error when the family tells you from the beginning they won't stand for it....

Have you never dealt with a clerical error? Or specifically in the case of hospitals, a coding error? I hope you haven’t because it can be such a pain to get it rectified and generally only found out after insurance denies the claim. Either way, you still posted a very misleading snippet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This whole thing is quite comical to me. And I’m fairly certain families don’t get to say/determine the cause of death. Not officially anyway. Not in this case or any other. I could be wrong. But regardless, thanks for the laugh! It’s even better when it’s unintentional.
