My phone solution

11 posts in this topic

I wanted an alternate number for my hobbying.

Before tonight, if someone were inclined, they could logon to my Verizon account (another story altogether) and view a log of what I'm doing. They could view that I'm making phone calls at 11pm on a Sat night and she is out of town. "Hrm, what is going on here...". Then she could call or google those numbers. "Uhh, that must be a computer mistake..."

Before tonight, I would make these calls, text messages and at the end of the night, I'd delete them in my call history.

Occasionally, about every 3 months, I would get a text like this, "Hey baby, how's it going? Want to get together?" I never got busted but I had some close calls.

This is pure stupidity on my part. I used to play poker a lot and I knew the odds of a getting a hand. For example, a straight flush is a pretty rare hand. But, if you play all night long, your going to see one. A bad beat is supposed to be rare. Who hasn't seen a bad beat at a poker room? You do things the way I'm doing them, it's just a matter of time.

My first solution was to download some free app that created a new phone number and voicemail. It worked great until I realized that it had disabled my Verizon voicemail and it took some frantic calls to customer service to resolve it.

My second solution, which is probably the most popular one, was Google Voice. I think I'm pretty tech savvy but I couldn't get it to work without it also disabling my standard voicemail. Escorts smarter than me have figured this but I can't. I tried many times and it's just a clusterfuck.

My third solution was a slam dunk in simplicity and something I was familiar with. Skype.

I created a skype account using my hobby email. I funded $10 in calls. The calls, in or out, are $.02 per minute meaning I bought 500 minutes. The next thing I did was I purchased a local number for $18 for 3 months. I used paypal to pay for things. I buy lots of things online and paypal is a pretty common charge on my statements. Then I tested it by calling myself. :) Finally, I uninstalled it.

Note, Paypal can be funded in many ways so you don't necessarily have to fund it via your bank account, or a card.

So, when I want a phone for hobbying, I install my Skype app, logon, and dial whomever I want. While I'm in hobby mode, I keep skype active. When I'm done, I uninstall it.

Why uninstall? Even if you have your app hidden, some smart lady could go thru your apps and find it. "Why do you have this?"

I think this system is bullet proof. Or pretty close.

For those wondering about me, I'm not married but I once was. I got caught and then got divorced. The cost of divorce is more than this skype app business I'm describing.

Hope this helps.

There is nothing quite like the school of hard knocks to teach us , is there...... ?

This would work well for providers also. And Mtnman has done all the grunt work, tried, tested...etc. So there you have it. It really is stupid to use the same number in real life and /hooker life. Many of us part-timers do though. And believe me, it has entered my mind that if any classmates, a ex- mr . Jez or two decided to just run my cell phone number through.... Jezabel would surely pop up. Lets put it this way, Jez information did come up with my number when I googled it. Along with a couple of old cell phone numbers.. Its a good thing that I really don't really give a rat's ass if one of my x's ever found out.

But for those who have spouse's , well Mtnman is on to a good thing here.

Yep, that can be taken as a shill. LoL !

I bought a $10 Tracphone at Wally world. Set up the phone via my hobby email. It costs $20 every 3 months to keep it going. My conversations are very limited, so airtime builds up. It is very small and fits anywhere, but spends most of its life in a locked steel desk drawer in my office with the battery removed.

I only get to play 1 to 3 times a month when I travel to one of two big cities. I prebook a week in advance, and I never have the choice of going out on short notice to get laid. This phone system has worked well for me for two years. Before, when I started, I used my personal number. Too much stress. I feel safer now.

Only downside? Texting sucks with this phone style. If you received a text lately that looks like this:

Heg bagy, yoi wanns do jt?

It was probably me.:o

Seems like Mr. Bubbles' option is easier. I like easier! :)

Assuming you have an Android phone, the apps on your phone, even after you've uninstalled them, are still listed in your google play store account under your account name.;)

I think this system is bullet proof. Or pretty close.

Famous last words.

I should have prefaced my post by saying, this is the alternative to a 2nd phone system. I don't want a second phone. This is a loose end I don't want around. I want to use my current phone.

If you want a 2nd phone, nothing beats getting a smart phone and converting it with Google Voice. A tracphone, while doable, pretty much sucks in call quality and such, but still, it's cheap.

Regarding the app store, I have two skype logons. My regular one, and my alternative one. My regular one, I actually use when I travel abroad.

Nothing is bullet proof. But this is a cleaner method than before.

Can you access the internet with that type of phone?

Like you're on the move and need directions, dose that brand of phone provide that service?

Wow this is quite the solution. But hey sometimes you can just never be too careful. My solution is just having the "hobby" phone as an "emergency phone". I only use it once in a while so its in the back of my glove compartment and locked with a 4 digit number. I clear the history when I'm done. All I'm interested in doing. But I give you props for your follow through!

With the $10 phone, no. However, all of the prepaid services have android "smart" phones, so with a "maps" or "GPS" app, smart phones can do that.

Thanks, I'll look that up.
