Just saw on Fox 31 that Ted Turner died.

Founder of CNN and Ted’s Montana Grill.

WOW !!  I just read about it this morning.  He was a maverick and changed the news biz in so many ways.  Also quite the sports team owner.  This one really makes me feel my mortality.

Regardless of whether one liked his politics and his wife's, there is no one alive in this country whose life was not affected in some way by Ted Turner.  He invented 24 hour cable news.  CNN was the first, the rest like Fox, etc. just copied his success.  He also started  TCM including saving and colorizing hundreds of classic movies, started TNT and TBS networks, became the fourth largest property owner in the USA but donated much of it to environmental easements and protections, donated a billion dollars to the UN, and was owner of the Atlanta Braves including when they won the World Series.  All the while his push was to try to inform and unite people, things we could really use these days.  So again, is there anyone not affected or touched by something he did? RIP

Turner made his mark in the early days of cable TV. I knew a lot of the originals and they were all a bunch of 'cowboys'. Before CNN, I remember him captaining the yacht (Courageous) that won Americas Cup in 1977. Time magazine ran a cover with him and the caption "Captain Outrageous." RIP
