(Remember the Ashley Madison hack?) If your name comes up in such a hack ... your marriage, career and life ... could be over! (You'd have some serious explaining to do!) But they caved when Cook County started knocking, while BackPage fought back until the big guns started charging the owners. Part of the problem was BackPage kept trying to appease the prudes by editing suspicious ads. But that moved them from a platform (protected by Sec 230) to a publisher (liable for content).
