The ability to pay for an ad with bitcoin

12 posts in this topic

I don’t know if anybody else is experiencing this probably not because I’m unique like that. But it has been like having to be a brain surgeon to get my ad paid this month. I don’t have cash app. I’m not allowed to have cash app. I don’t know why they just won’t let me have an account anymore. My bank doesn’t allow me to buy crypto at all!  As most financial institutions are moving to. PayPal, Venmo, etc. So I basically just entered $120 into a bitcoin ATM and still don’t have enough to pay for my app so an $85 ad for a month has now gone to $120 plus fees is anybody else having this problem??

Hello,

Strike.me is a good alternative. Really, you can use any crypto wallet. As long as you can link a card to the software and purchase bitocin, and then transfer bitcoin to another wallet, you can pay for your advertisement.

There are dozens of options.

bitcoin ATMs are a scam; they bend you over on the conversion; most often I use coinbase as there are numerous currencies you can purchase w/ a debit card. I suggest Litecoin or Etherium, then a low network/xfer fee to your personal wallet, then xfer into something widely accepted like monero.

Here is something I would like to see change. TOB went to bitcoin only in 2020 I think. Now, as the bitcoin in flying through cyberspace almost always 2 to 5 bucks extra land into my account to pay my monthly $85 fee. If you don't pad your payment a couple of dollars then you risk bitcoin dropping and if it arrives less than $85 you then have send the remainder in the time allowed before the pay period closes (usually an hour).

On other websites like Tryst, if extra dollars arrive during the transaction they put that money in your account to use the next time you purchase an ad. In the five years TOB has been using bitcoin, TOB just keeps the extra money they receive.

Can we have our accounts credited for the over amounts received for future months payments?

I'm not very tech-savvy, but is there really not a better way to do this? I know the value of Bitcoin can literally change minute my minute. If a lady pays for her ad as the price drops, her ad does not run? If she pays as the value goes up, she loses the balance? Is that accurate? Seems a little predatory to me, and not very user-friendly. But again, I'm not tech-savvy.

Can we have an offline conversation in PM about this? This should not be a thing. The invoices are set to a $ amount. Eg $85. You should not be sending say, $90 to us, nor should there be an option for you to do that from when you click the "pay now" button.|

The 'fees' are charged by CashApp or wallet, or the transaction fee to send it. This we have no control over it. If you click "Pay Now" and then "Open in Wallet" we only receive the invoice amount.

Actually, it's balanced out - We actually accept a fee less than the stated amount. I'd like to know how you're sending more than what the invoice totals.

EDIT:
I just looked at your account and from January 1st 2024 to your most recent payment, there hasn't been a single invoice where we received more than what the invoice shows.

It all comes down to BTC’s volatility. That’s why it’s always best to pay the invoice as soon as possible.

We give a 3-hour window to complete payment, which allows providers time to get funds or visit an ATM. But yes, if someone clicks to pay and then waits those full 3 hours, BTC’s price can fluctuate—meaning the payment might end up slightly under or over the original invoice amount.

When we adopted BTC in 2020, we balanced this carefully. We could have generated new invoices every 10 minutes to keep BTC amounts accurate, but that caused other issues. Invoices expiring too quickly meant providers often missed the window or paid late on expired invoices, forcing us to manually update accounts—adding delays and frustration.

So we settled on a 3-hour invoice expiration to give flexibility while accepting the risk of price swings.

To help providers, we also accept short payments within a certain percentage if BTC drops during that time. This way, we aren’t being predatory; we’re actually protecting providers from losing out due to market swings.

As for overpayments, those generally only happen if someone manually sends more than the invoice amount, which is rare and not expected.

You are incorrect! I can download my CashApp history and prior to that my Bitcoin history to clearly show many times I paid 86-89 dollars. We have 3 hours to hold the invoice correct. Once we scan the QR code or copy/paste the address into out wallet. However, we only have ONE hour for the bitcoin to make through cyberspace or the payment is lost and we can't get it back. During that time all connections have to remain open meaning no apps or windows closed. There have been many times I have sat for up to 30 minutes waiting for bitcoin to arrive. There is no mining fee charge when I pay Eros or Tryst for some reason there has always been a fee with TOB. I know Marilyn would send out "how to" emails to the ladies explaining this. I still have them saved to my inbox.

And YES bitcoin value can drop during that 1 hour window and our payments arrive short. I know 100% I am not the only one this has happened to.

MAYBE you should visit the help page? I just copied this from there now. " MAKING PAYMENT:
- Click Billing on TOB
- Select items to purchase
- Click CONFIRM ITEMS
- Once confirmed, click PAY WITH BITCOIN

You now have 30 minutes to complete the Bitcoin transfer.
The easiest way is to click OPEN IN WALLET to send from your wallet.

If the wallet doesn't open:
- Copy the Bitcoin address in the TOB window
- Send the Bitcoin directly to that address

Note: If the window expires, you'll need to start over — each payment generates a new Bitcoin address. Do not exit the window and come back later, as pricing may change.

PURCHASING BITCOIN
Option 1: CASH APP
- Open CASH APP, click the HOME icon
- Tap the Bitcoin tile, then BUY
- Cash App charges a ~2% fee
- Example: For an $85 listing, buy $87 worth of BTC
- $105 - $108
- $107 - $110
- $115 - $118
- Go to Home > Bitcoin tile > Triangle (send icon)
- Enter amount, paste the TOB Bitcoin address, and send
- Send within a few minutes of getting the TOB address
- Choose normal speed, not expedited — high-speed sends charge more and may result in underpayment

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I asked a simple question. Can we have our accounts credited for the over amounts received for future months payments?

I didnt read thru this whole thing. But once you've sent the payment from cashapp to the bitcoin address you can leave the page and go about your business and it will.complete itself. I do the 2hr priority every single time and never once missed the payment window.

The extra $3-$4 is not received by us, that is what is called a network fee. There is nothing we can do about that. How do you think BTC is handled? They are called 'miners' they're the ones who make BTC go across the cyber realm. This can range from very small fees, to sometimes 10-20% at peak times. It's supply and demand. We have no control over this using BTC on-chain payments.

However, we only have ONE hour for the bitcoin to make through cyberspace or the payment is lost and we can't get it back.

This is called a "network confirmation" - this is also with the BTC network. We have no control over this.

You're wasting your time as Meg has said. You simply make your payment and go about the day. There's no reason to do any of that.

The way we 'currently' handle BTC payments, there's no way to avoid the network/mining fee. I'm not sure what Tryst or other sites do. There are trade-offs to each path. What we did in 2020 was accept BTC on-chain payments, and accept a 4% under invoice and remove the ability for you to just send 'extra' like you eluded to. We originally set the invoice for 30 minutes to protect volatility with no 4% under invoice, but so many people complained because the invoice expired and they had to go do it all over again. We changed it to 1 hour, same problem, and then 3 hours and also allowed 4% under.

Sure, we can do that, just checked how often that is and out of 3 years of payments, there was 7 paid over, for a total amount of.... $5.69 - Want proof?

Anyone that goes to college for "programming" is no real programmer, just to let you know. But yes, I did go to school for IT, not for programming, but I've worked on large programming projects with EA, Nike, McDonalds, Microsoft, Google. I remember my first check I received in my small hometown 20 years ago and how my bank wouldn't want to cash the check because it had Google written on it and they were baffled by it. Does that help you feel better?

This is why I want to have an offline conversation to see why or where you're being charged more, because looking at your account history WE never received more than what the invoice was. I can show you this. Just because you bought and paid with BTC does not mean we received it. We aren't doing anything shady, unethical and we always try our best to lookout for the providers. I can show you all the payments and what was received.

Honestly, it makes me so frustrated that all I want to do is help you all and be a voice to the owners and you just piss on me for trying to help you. So okay, you win. I won't help anymore. Let's just remove that 4% under fee and hurt the ladies, and only give them 30 minutes and make it harder for everyone.....

Come on...
