Posted October 6 My marigolds were incredible this summer. I’m with you on waiting. I rolled past Heritage Park on Wadsworth; it was busy with Cider Days. They might call it something different this year? There's no telling. My driver caught the green light, and I missed the sign. It has been so warm, and I hope it stays warm for as long as possible!
Posted October 6 Unless there's a big change in the weather, you should be good until November first. It has to be below -32 degrees to freeze water lines on the outside of your home and exposed to the weather. Some people do it themselves and some find a company to blow out the lines. These guys get pretty busy at times and I would schedule a time soon. It's always better to be early than late. Replaced a frozen vacuum breaker or outside silcock can put a big dent in your wallet. Don't forget to disconnect your garden hoses also. We made a lot of money from customers because the forgot that, or, decided to wash the car and forgot to turn it off and disconnect the hose. Also, have the tech you hire show you how he does it and do it yourself the next time. Most people don't know that many systems are required to have and auto-drain fitting in the line. This allows the system to drain though the lowest point once the pressure is off. You can pretty much do it yourself with a pair of pliers and a flat tip screwdriver in most cases. Unless the main shutoff to your sprinkler is leaking, you really don't need to blow out the system if you fallow a few easy steps.
Posted October 6 Yep, I usually get er done between Oct 15th and Nov 1st but last year I got distracted. LOL, results = backflow BURST and had water shooting upward a good 50 feet. First time in 20 years I had that happen. Now if I could find a PROVIDER who does this type of service, I would love to schedule if you know what I mean. And yes, I do know the steps to do it myself but I don't mind paying because I am BUSY taking care of other things.

Gardens and flowers are not my specialty. I usually let women that I am dating handle that for me. Laughing @ myself because I think women look so SEXY when they are out in the garden doing their thing....................Its like they are sexy/dirty/beautiful all at the same time.............. I am with you on hoping the warm days stick around much longer.
Posted October 6 (edited) I think I understand your angle of view of women and flowers. I grow a few herbs, too. Why I loved my marigolds so much this year? It was because most of them were from the year before, and I had some beautiful orange blossoms. My mom loves pink geraniums, and when she travels, I care for her plants when she leaves town. Well, this time, I planted her pink geraniums into one of my garden beds, and those geraniums became a bush this year! So, I bought her new geraniums and very few other flowers because most of my flowers are annuals. My little apple tree yielded 12 gala apples. Compared to the year before, I will say I had some real success.😊 All that rain from last summer was horrible for trying to garden for me. Colorado has a clay soil and last summer with all the rain my gardens did not know what to do with all the moisture. Posted October 18 I don't blow out my system, I just drain it. That allows me to water throughout the winter if we get a couple of sunny days in a row without worrying about things freezing and breaking. I have 9 zones on my property and getting to water them a couple of times during the winter really makes a difference come Spring.
Posted October 19 I did the sprinkler system myself a few years back with a trencher, and the kit I got was self draining. Makes it so nice and easy, just cut off the water and open the valve to let it all drain!

I use to just drain my system some 10 years ago at my other house and I never had any problems. I had 14 zones at that particular home. This particular home with less zones, I have only had one problem and that was last year. It was my own fault, so I don't mind paying to have it blow out. Now I definitely agree with you possibly needing to water because of a hot days during the winter. This is why I go at least until October 15th before I shut it down..................

I am glad you asked Kali instead of assuming and not understanding where I am coming from. EXAMPLE 1: A neighbor/stranger walks up to me while I am out cutting the grass and comments that my house would look better with flowers/plants etc. I say to her, a garden/flowers/plants are not my specialty and she says she is good at it. I say "REALLY" and kindly invite her to show me how its done. EXAMPLE 2: A cleaning lady puts her service card on the door and I choose her to come and clean my house. LOL, she just happens to be a CUTEY and as she is cleaning my house, some kind of way she and I get turned on and yeah you know what happens next. I like UNPLANNED/UNEXPECTED/UNSCRIPTED situations............................... Yes I could EASILY just EMPLOY a girl from TOB but thats too EASY, I want the juices to flow naturally versus putting a hand full of KY down there..................

Your mistakes With planing a garden and hiring someone you need to do an exchange of cash or payment on some level. Also, how involved do you wish to get with your oasis? The difference between a few planted flowers and a full blown zen garden HUGE difference! How much space will be covered? I like for this person to come up with something tasteful as well as manageable for you to maintain. Sitting down with a real gardener and planing and drawing up blueprints is no easy task. Also be ready to spend some cash on what you want in your garden. This is not a point A to point B there is quite a bit more involved with your project . Don’t treat it like a sexcapade! This is a true protect you hopefully will enjoy for years to come. A place to drink your coffee in the morning and enjoy entertaining friends and family. Make it special for sure.
Posted October 28 (edited) I have a client with an incredible water feature in his backyard. All kinds of animals come and drink from his little creek, which he created. I love seeing it when I am over at his place. He makes me breakfast often, and we sip coffee before our activities. It's super romantic as well as fun! This is just an example of how involved you can become with a garden project. Edited October 28 by Kali Sensual Reiki

I'd suggest to anyone who is waiting to blow out the old sprinkler system to at least drain the portion above ground and a drip system if you are running one of those. The silcocks I have drain from inside of the house 12" or so, so no problem there. I'm not supposed to water after Oct 1 in my area but with all of the heat we've been having I cheated a bit and blew out the sprinklers and drip system last weekend. Hand watering the plants that still need watering. It's hard to keep green things in CO green....but I love to garden so I fight the good fight! HAHA!
