Posted September 30 Just read that Nuggets legend Dikembe Mutombo passed at age 58 from brain cancer. I didn't even know he was sick. Though he was a great player for the Nuggets and other teams (especially defense), he was an even better human being. Gave of himself....cared about community...remembered his roots and backed his caring with action. The world is a bit darker with his death. RIP.

Posted October 1 I've been a long admirer since before he got drafted by the Nuggets. By chance, I ran into him and his family one afternoon in Cherry Creek right after he had rec'd his second Defensive Player of the Year award. I usually let celebs alone, but I had a couple of elementary school age basketball crazy girls with me who couldn't contain themselves. One even had a well-worn Dikembe card with her. He was gracious, took an inordinate amount of time to talk and seemed genuinely blown away when she showed him her card!

Posted October 1 Great player, great guy who did so much for others outside of the game. Very sad he is gone so soon. Brain cancer is about as nasty as it gets.
Posted October 2 My son was i in fourth grade that year when he and his grandpa went to every home game the Nuggets played that year. My parents even bought him a jersey with Mutombo‘s name on the back.. I think he wore it for three years that jersey! He grew to love the sport of basketball so much so that he played it all through high school. So, this news was a hard thing to talk about with him last nigh.
