Europe's Top Health Officials Say Masks Aren't Helpful in Beating COVID-19 https://www.newsbreakapp.com/n/0Po9bDC4?s=a4&pd=067NOsTx

I'll just leave this article here and see what other opinions pop up... more then likely, just like anything people dont WANT to hear because they dont like anything they hear outside of their own little bubble. It might be fun to hear all the "well unless the CDC (a US government funded organization) does their own studies and says the same I won't believe it" and :oh that's fake news" or any other "fact checks" to discredit this one

Do you have another site that doesn’t have pop ups, banners, or try to get me to install an app when I try to read the entire article by tapping “view more” on my phone? Really anything credible will suffice. Doesn’t have to be from the CDC. Just something/anything reputable. I don’t think that’s a hard ask.

Sigh.  The FEE folks cherry picked the statements and twisted them into deception.  A more complete quote and reporting (see attached) states that because of the very low infection rate in Denmark, masks are not indicated at this time.  Main Health official goes on to say that it may be reasonable to require them in the future if there are outbreaks and significant spread of the virus.  Which certainly describes the USA

WEAR A MASK  very simple

To be contrarian:

Not that I agree with all the conspiracy touted, but consider this:  Going to church is bad, but protesting in the streets is OK.  Both are expressions of our 1st Amendment.

For the record, I DO wear a mask in public.

We get it, you don’t like the protests. Churches fall into a lot of categories but as long as it’s applied equally and across the board (Meaning all religions and houses of worship) the government can close those locations in a time of crisis or health concern. It does not impact your ability to worship freely to any god(s), spaghetti monsters, or void you choose to believe in. So no, it does not infringe on your 1st amendment right of freedom of religion. I think where it gets dicey is the right to assemble and how that’s quantified.

And that’s where I’ll leave that one in hopes of preventing thread drift.

Edit: a lot of outbreaks have been linked to church gatherings. So there is cause for concern there.

@JoDoe27

My complaint wasn’t so much a cry for religious services, but questioning why one is OK and the other is not.

Could you imaging the recent protest marches in groups of 10 with 6’ between individuals and say 100yds between groups.

-edit-

IMHO religion is a private experience anyway.

That's exactly what I do... I wait until the last minute before going inside a building and only put it on so that the a-holes that can't just mind their own leave me alone

With all due respect Mr. Banger, the video is garbage.  Who says going to church is bad?  Both church gatherings and protests are currently fully allowed, both are subject to a maximum number of people, and both are subject to the directive to wear a mask in public places.  The only significant difference is most church gatherings are indoors while protests are outdoors, with indoors being much more problematic.  There is no reason to try to couch the mask question as an "us" (the right and religious and evangelicals) against them (protesters).  It is simply division politics as perfected by his eminence no. 45. Please stop already.  I know you are smarter and better than that.

As to being required to wear mask and quarantine and etc. being a recent socialist grab:

Geez! You'd think wearing a mask actually suffocated humans, the way some people resist.

You don't run red lights, right? You don't park in the middle of the street? You don't shoot guns at 3am, in the city?

Seriously, it's not difficult, and it's the polite, safest, legal option.

If that's too tough for you, maybe you should go live in cave, away from the rest of society.

No. It's not a hard ask.

There are a large number of very reputable journal articles on masking and influenza that predate Covid19.

Best articles in my opinion are: Cowling, B., et.al, 2010; Smith, J.D., et.al., 2016; Radonovich, L., J., et.al. 2019.

Simple Google search will bring up articles with author and date these will get you started.

Well, tell me if I am missing something.

From Cowling:

There is some evidence to support the wearing of masks or respirators during illness to protect others, and public health emphasis on mask wearing during illness may help to reduce influenza virus transmission. There are fewer data to support the use of masks or respirators to prevent becoming infected.

The other two focus almost exclusively on whether N95 or medical masks are more effective in terms of protection, find precious little difference between the two, but do not really dig into the larger question - are they effective vs. no mask at all?

Again, masks are certainly far from perfect but when properly used they will at least SLOW the spread.  And that is the idea.  Mild discomfort is the down side.  What is the debate?  Just wear the damn mask.

What do antifa and BLM have to do with masks?  Antifa is a loose movement or idea, not a group with designated leadership that one can tell anything to.  BLM is both an organization and movement to most people having only to do with getting equal rights and protections for all.  Very sinister that movement, <sarcasm font needed>  However, some radical over the top looney tunes have indeed tried to co-opt the movement into radical socialist and mythical societal utopia bs.  They are so far left and so far out of touch there is no productive talking to them.  Antifa ditto.  Same can be said for the boogaloos, three per centers, etc on the far right.  No talking to them either.  You on the other hand are still in touch with reality and your views are just as valid (even if wrong! lol) as mine and I am more than happy to talk to you.  Perhaps we both learn something.  If you would quit changing the subject. :)

I sometimes liken our governments’ Covid reactions to chemo for cancer.  My wife used to say that they poisoned you hoping to kill the cancer before they kill the patient.
I shudder when I think of what we are doing to our economy. I read somewhere (sorry I don’t recall where) that 1/3 of the small businesses have closed their doors forever.  They didn’t have the financial cushion to survive.  I fear it will be even higher in the entertainment & food service industries.

I’m also concerned about the precedents being set for business and education systems.  Will ‘work from home’ become the new norm, eliminating the social interactions of the office environment?  From talking with my sister (a retired teacher) the ‘at risk’ students are those most likely to fall behind in online classrooms.  Her former co-workers talk of increasing truancy rates.  We’re already talking about disparities in our education systems.  This will only increase the difference.  Will the government restrictions become the new norm, as many of them did after 9/11?  Or will this pandemic usher in another Roaring 20s?

I need to get my eardrums pierced 😜

Actually there are times when I feel the need for more air when wearing a mask, but if I sit down for a minute things are OK.

RIOTS? Vandalism? Arson? Assault? These need to be eliminated.  Peaceful protesters should have more interest than the common citizen in suppressing these activities because it stains their message.

The App if and when installed on hand held devise is insidious with not allowing uninstall...

"Do NOT download News Break app. I downloaded the News Break app inadvertently (thinking it was an app update for another app I have, called ‘Smart News'). News break app took over many settings on my phone, the pop up ads were constant, it completely rearranged my icon arrangement and overrided other apps and settings. It did NOT have an option to uninstall (ie you can not press-hold-delete or move icon to uninstall). Using settings to ‘Force Stop’ the apps and remove all permissions did not work. Before resorting to resetting my phone to factory settings, I found that you can do the following to uninstall: Settings-Apps-Newbreak-CLEAR DEFAULTS. Once you clear defaults, NOW it gives you an option to uninstall, which was previously hidden. Look for other apps it may have installed on your phones. When able to uninstall newsbreakapp, it automatically deleted 2 other apps I did not install."

How is that you apply a negative blanket to the protests at large but cops and their actions caught on camera from so many angles get a pass? But I’d wager you don’t care to find those videos and how some of the riots actually began. Also, remember, you and several other vocal members do not like peaceful protesting. In fact you admonish it. I will go back to people taking a knee silently because that is about as peaceful as it goes. But that was too far. You don’t even want people marching in the streets because it could block emergency service vehicle (and before any of you attempt to post the one instance in Seattle where this happened you should most definitely read the full breakdown and where the cops intentionally obfuscated pertinent information and routinely showed up late or at the wrong location. I know you guys well enough to see that one being thrown up.). So really the only protests you’ve ever been in favor of, or at least been ok with where those wonderful unite the white guys because they had permits. Anyway, I’m officially done with this one.

Stay on task with the subject of this thread. To which I’ll say if wearing a mask is too much for you the next time you go into your doctor’s office or better yet, have surgery or anything invasive, take a very hard stance and demand they remove their mask while working on you. It’s such a thin piece of material. What good could it actually have‽  That should be a wonderful experience I’m certain you’ll be...dying to share! <- the usage of “you” is the royal you and not you @Bit Banger  as you’ve said you do in fact wear a mask.

Don’t @ me. Or do. I won’t respond as now it’s just thread drift and a moot point.

Thats news to me... Newsbreak was already preinstalled on the phone when I bought it. I do remember trying to uninstall it and thought it wouldn't because of a factory install issue because I used to get on top buzz and then when they cut off I started looking on newsbreak at the stories, some stupid but its something to look at when I'm bored.... and it has the exact same stories as everyplace else (ie facebook, YouTube, 9 news, and when top buzz was running)

This 'article' is crap.  They didn't cite any references at all.  Also, an economic website posting authoritatively on healthcare?  No thank you.

The consensus of experts is, indeed, that mask-wearing makes a moderate to significant difference.  Listen to experts at the NIH, CDC, Hopkins, Harvard Global Health, Mayo, UCSF, etc.

https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2020/06/417906/still-confused-about-masks-heres-science-behind-how-face-masks-prevent

https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2020/p0714-americans-to-wear-masks.html

Plenty of references buried in the above articles.

I don't have any problem with libertarian thought, but I DO when they cherry pick to make it seem like this isn't a worldwide consensus by the experts.

Are those that do not wear a mask being selfish by not looking out for others health or are those that do wear a mask being selfish for not standing up for their rights or other people's rights. Is following nonsense rules that are not based on science being selfish? Two sides to the same coin.

Michigan has a dictator as a governor and worth keeping an eye on since she might be running for Vice President. Michigan has been out front on this issue as it is a state that has been hit hard by the governor and the virus.

There is some good information on https://www.facebook.com/pg/standupmi/posts/

Michigan has been out in front of this since it has been hit hard by a dictator of a governor and the virus. It might be worth keeping an eye on Michigan because the governor might be running for vice president.

StandUpMichigan has an agenda but some of the information is good. It gives a different point of view.
