Those folks require a high drama diet, and seeing strange men in hoodies gets their motor running. Life is scary and TV fuels the fear. Many of these folks seem to have nothing better to think about.

Yes, it appears that we have gone that way, at least in the suburbs.

I for one have enough drama in my life that I don't go searching for more. I understand what you are saying non the less.

Airbnb's are starting to use facial recognition.  Be careful ladies.

One thing I will never understand is people who put Ring video doorbells on their homes. It’s not a secret that Ring sends the video feed to the police, they advertise that as a major feature. Are people so afraid that they feel the need to put their homes under police surveillance?

Don't they only send the info to the police if something happens?

I would think that is what happens.  Only if something happens.

In a word, yes.

If people didn't want it, they wouldn't buy it, and Ring would alter their policy.

However, I believe this 'feature' (forwarding to police) is optional to the customer, unless a crime is involved.

Still, the product presents many privacy concerns like:

- how long does that video remain on the Ring cloud?

- who owns the images captured with my Ring product?

- who has access to that data?

- can I opt out in the future?

... and many more.

The police aren’t actively looking at Ring video feeds, but they can look them up at any time for any reason.

I have a regular doorbell as well.  I may or may not get up and answer it.  Depends on my mood and what I'm doing.  I may look out the curtains to see who is ringing my door bell first and then make up my mind if I will answer the door.

I have a broken door bell right now , but all I have to do is look out my full glass door and see who I don't wan't to be bugged with and they just stare at me when I just sit my couch and don't get up to answer the door lol

Pour her a couple of Gin Tonics. That'll loosen her up and drop the inhibitions.;)
