RIP: Paper Tiger/Club X

32 posts in this topic

Heard that the old Paper Tiger, renamed several times over the years, has shut down.  Only went there once ,about 20 years ago,and saw several girls stripping there that I had worked with at Shotgun Willies in 1983/1984. Didn't go in after it was sold to a group of Russians.  (Not because they were Russian, but because I thought it was a nasty dump ). Can any of you confirm the closing ?

The last name of this club was "Topless Live Show Club."   Looked up their facebook page and no one has posted in awhile.

I used to go to the Paper Tiger for lunch all the time a long time ago before it became a strip club.

I think they had a shooting or something there not too long ago.

I drive past there routinely. I’ll check it out next time I go past at night and see if there are any cars around.

So I drove past the old Paper Tiger last night about 7pm.  It was dark.  No lights, no cars, no banners.

I'm going out on a limb here and say that the Paper Tiger/Topless Live Show has closed its doors.

If they had a shooting there not too long ago,as you previously stated, they might be having a suspension. Hopefully, they are closed forever. Haven't been there in ages and it looked liked the building should have been condemned then. ( if you drive past it again and its bulldozed down, the cockroaches will be homeless )

Saturdays/PTs Nude 2 was closed due to a shooting (and it was a pop shop..who gets wasted enough on soda pop to shoot anyone ? ) . Yet Dandy Dans stays open after a shooting. kinda strange how Denver county makes their decisions in these matters.

Recall when PTs on Evans was closed ,due to a 30 day court ordered suspension, they used that time to give the old Family Dog a facelift and some much needed upgrades.

I was the architect who did the drawings for that remodel. Wow old memories

Rocky Mountain Oyster had their office at PTs when I joined their staff.  Don't know why,but months later they moved out of there and into a space in Littleton. Hmm, altogether they were in 6 locations .

Did go there for concerts a few times as the Family Dog.

Getting back to what a dump Paper Tiger was. The only strip club that was in worse condition, and was eventually torn down, was Aloha Beach.    Very seedy, but had cute girls (and some that weren't ) that performed the type of shows you just can't see anymore. Recall one night when my foot went through the bathroom floor. (Yikes )

jR my Exwife got rear ended on I225 back in the late 80’s or early 90’s by the owner of the Paper Tiger and his wife in their white and gold Cadillac.  It was quite the scene and he was in his late 60’s or 70’s then.

So...when that old guy owner and his wife were rear ending your ex in the Caddy...was she a willing part of that threesome, or did they force her?

He may have since passed.  The most recent owner is a Russian immigrant with a thick accent in his late 40s/early 50s. Met him when he owned Bare Essence strip club in Federal Heights, which he sold to the Scores chain and is now Platinum 84.

When I served cocktails @ PT's on Evans, when I got off early with some other gals we used to frequent the 'BoneYard' 25 + years ago, then hit the Breakfast King. The gals inside the Paper Tiger were past their prime yes, but still deserved much respect and enthusiasm, and we would spread some love when our schedules allowed it. They had to used a juke box back then, no dj and would hang onto the ceiling pipes while they danced because the clearance was so low. And no pole back then either.

In recent months, I stopped there and was denied access because I was unescorted by a male, which IMHO is total bullshit. Their loss, as I tip very well. I got the same treatment @ DandyDans. I used to frequent all clubs often back then and was never told I couldnt enter without a companion. I think the Russians that bought the Paper Tiger have more invested in the 3 large greenhouses in the back. The smell of weed was very obvious last time I stopped there.

<Sigh>....I will miss that little dive, but not as much as Boogie Down!

A lot of clubs have come and gone over the years. I haven’t thought about Boogie Down in years. Then there was Sid King’s on East Colfax and a couple others on Colfax that I can’t remember.

ILW, I remember back in the 70’s going to Sid kings and he had a dancer dressed in a nurses outfit that would dance and pull out pubic hairs and put them in your long neck beer bottles. Interesting reason to buy another round of beers

Candio...yes,fond memories of Boogie Down. I was at the grand opening of it. They shipped in the hottest dancers from Aloha Beach for that night. (Both clubs had the same owner ) .

I'm just a bit too young to have actually visited the Boogie Down or Aloha Beach, but the mention of them does make me smile.  Judging by looks of the building, it is probably time for something different with the Paper Tiger, but it does make me sad to see all of these longstanding Denver "institutions" go away...the cool, old school Denver businesses are dropping like flies across all industries.

Bit nasty, that is!

I was "kidnapped" and driven to Sid's for my bachelor party. Ol' Sid himself on the microphone. I got a scratch on my nose from a larger older dancer, wearing a metallic bra.

Good times!

Although it was very late, and I had imbibed many adult beverages by that time in the early morning, I would swear in court that I saw a waitress/entertainer balance and carry two goblet glasses of draft beer on her considerably endowed female appendages one evening in 1977 at Sid Kings Crazy Horse Bar on Colfax.

There was also an entertainer who did something with a cigarette -- lit it, smoked it, blew it out? -- using only her lower lips.

At Aloha Beach certain dancers, at the end of their act would announce that they'd next be available at the massage parlor across the parking lot.

Yes children, life was indeed fascinating and amazing in Denver's good old days.

Old timer I remember that smoking trick and she did do it.

I remember a gal blowing out an entire s book of matches and shooting ping pong balls across the room (a trick made famous in “Pricilla, Queen of the Desert”).

The late rock singer Wendy O Williams did the ping pong trick in a parody of the Gong Show that was a scene in one of the "Candy " series of adult videos.

Reflecting on this thread. Its amazing to me how many strip clubs ,that I covered the grand opening of and/or covered their events for the Oyster ,no longer exist. Pecos had three of them. Gone are Boogie Down,Pecos Junction and the Dream House. (btw..Pecos Junction is now a very good Mexican restaurant ).

Of all the strip clubs I was a part time DJ at ,only Shotgun Willies and Dandy Dans still exist.

Yes, the clubs were much more fascinating in the good old days. Someone should write a book about them. Sid King deserves several chapters.

I can remember back in the mid 60’s when I was working at Der Wienerschnitzel and they had a drive thru where orders were taken.

The strippers from the Tropics up in Morrison Road would pull into the drive thru and as I would lean out the window to take their order, almost everyone of the ladies had their dresses pulled up to where their panties showed.

I know they did it on purpose to make a very horny young male a big thrill.

It always made my night when they came in.

I drove past the Paper Tiger this mornign when it was getting light out and saw a For Sale sign below the Topless Show sign.

It wasn't a professional sign.

Apparently the owners are trying to sell the property themselves.

Couple of memories of aloha beach. A girl with a large test tube and flashlight.  You can figure out where the test tube went. She would  hand you the light to shine down the tube. Another dancer put a stack of quarters on the floor and picked them up with her vagina.  This was probably forty years ago

Recall both of those shows. Saw three high school girls, that were prudes then, do some amazing acts on stage at Aloha Beach.

What I liked about Aloha Beach was that if you took a shine to one of the perforners, you could see her later privately at the massage parlor out front.

Denver was the Wild West in those days of the sexual revolution before hiv.

I went to school with several of the Aloha Beach strippers. Imagine my surprise ,and theirs, when I first saw them onstage. Played it cool and got invited to the all night private partys .after the club closed.

The girls at school used to be much more fun.

Howdy JR.

The girls at school used to be much more fun. If it weren't for the girls and band, I would have dropped out.

I recall that AB got the travelling entertainers. These "stars" would make the rounds of all the big Denver area clubs, like PTs, and would also work the massage parlor at "the Beach."

Sometimes I think it was all in my imagination -- it was so outrageous and fun, (which is no longer allowed.)That's why I appreciate your stories -- they validate my failing memory.
