Accepting trades?

47 posts in this topic

Hello,

I have asked around about trading services with me and have had mixed results, being respectful of their time.

I ask if they are interested in a trade for what ever they are comfortable in return.
Some are very willing to trade and some are not.
Some get offended to an extreme level.

I have been in service industries all of my life in various degrees so I understand how some clients can be and never want to show disrespect so I try to make it very clear that I do not intend to offend.
But one provider was so angry that I asked that she blackballed me on a client review site that providers use.

My question is should I ask anymore or just not even mention trades?
Thanks!

I would suggest you do not ask about a trade or exchange unless she specifically has mentioned it somewhere.

How do you know the one lady “blackballed” you on a client review site?

I do trades with my mobile chiropractor, but hes been adjusting me for 25 years. After my hip replacements and I hadn't been working for months, I asked if he would be interested and he immediately accepted. But I wouldn't ask a provider you've never met and who does not know you from Adam. Comes across kinda tacky. Same kinda thing when I get offers for photo shoot trades. Professional courtesy is usually only exchanged between two parties  that have at least a little bit of history.

I would think if providers aren't advertising they trade for services and advertising rates only, you should be reaching out to pay for their time with money. During your paid session you can then ask if they would be interested in trading services for a future session.

Another provider asked me for more verification and I provided them. she said why she asked and mentioned it.

after a few more texts she quoted it. I shared the text history from the provider that was mad.
She thought the "mad" provider was out of line for black listing me but oh well.

I will take all the advise and only offer if a rapport has been established or the provider has shown interest in a massage.

^^^^ THIS!  OP, how would you feel if someone who's in the trades business, approaches you and ask to trade out of the gate?  After a relationship is established, I'm sure you'll have better success with these discussions than right out of the gate.

I think the best way to approach it is FIRST see the provider.  Figure out if it's a fit for you, and fit for her.  Maybe give her a few minutes of massage at the end of your session, and mention that you're a professional.  'would you ever be interested in trading services?"   That's a lot more personal than asking that before you've met someone, and more likely, I think to be better received, since you saw them and paid them in cash for their time before broaching such a subject.

However.....  I'd make darn sure it was not 60 minutes session with her for a 60 minute session with you.  Cash is king, and when it's not, like value for like value.

At the Oyster, and other publications I'm very familiar with. They don't trade for advertising.

True 300/hr for an escort's time compared to 50-150/hr for massage therapist's time doesn't calculate to a fair trade. Personally, I'd rather book a session at my hourly rate, pay for my massage and pocket the difference.

I agree with both points. I have never made a trade offer or request at a 1 to 1 value in time or service level. it has always been respectful of the other and mentioned as what they are comfortable in providing or deem equivalent.
I do not believe in getting something for nothing and will take all of this advise from every post to heart.

thank you all

Barter sucks.  Someone almost always gets the short end.  That is one reason why cash was invented, and is the only way to go - in my opinion.  There was a lady in springs years back that advertised for quite some time "will trade for electronic equipment".  Never knew you could combine hobby and pawn.

Stop asking..... It is disrespectful 😡

Work harder, so you can afford the lady of your choice.

Haven't "worked" and years but would never consider trading for services business should be kept business

I usually try to keep my professional life separate from my playtime life, but, occasionally, crossover does happen because some folks here that I am close to have an ides of what I do for a living and have reached out.  I don't do any bartering.  If I am contacted by someone from our community, I do my best to share resources I know about that can be helpful.  So far it has worked well.  I am glad if I can be helpful, and all it costs me is a bit of time.

Sorry the provider was not nice to you. Just understand that for many of us it is a cash only business and many of the ladies are seriously struggling financially trying to make their bills. While Denver is an incredible city to live in the cost of living is outrageous and an average rental is close to 2K in and around the Denver area. Once again I am sure eventually you find ladies in need of massage. However those willing to trade might be a difficult situation. 😐

wishing you the best!

😘😘

I have done “exchanges” with providers.  I’ll describe one case:

She knew I did woodworking as a hobby and sometimes did odd jobs for friends. She asked me about a simple table & a headboard.  I took her specs and we agreed upon a price.  When I delivered my work product she paid cash & I gave her a receipt. I then handed her the cash, added to it, and we had a wonderful session together.

See - an exchange of services in a professional manner.

Personally I never trade my services. I might give someone a break in cost ( family, friends, an elderly person, etc.). The reason is that I will always end up on the short end,  no matter what the job  is. Same goes for lending someone money.  You think they are your friend,  until it comes time to pay.  Then they will always have an excuse why they can't pay you.  It is always a good policy to stick to your hourly rate or flat fee.  They can either afford it, have to save up or just do without.

Trading services is not a option for me.

I prefer to stick with buisness.

I recently was shopping for a car and the gentlemen at the dealership was putting the moves on me.

He said "we can work something out"...

Nope I did not even consider it.

Trades can be really tricky, however I do trade with a client of mine who is a massage therapist, because I really need a good massage and I am going to pay someone else to do it anyway, so why not trade? I did not start trading with this client until after I had seen him for a few sessions, and he did not even mention trading, he just mentioned that he was a massage therapist and he offered to massage me during his session. The massage was awesome and just what I needed, so I offered to do trades with him going forward. Because of the obvious difference in our rates we came up with an agreement that we both thought was fair. As for your question about trades, I would not even bring it up to a provider unless you have seen them on multiple occasions, and you have given them a preview of your massage style. Not everyone who does massage is good at what they do..........

All of this! I think it’s offensive to ask if we do not have some sort of rapport established btwn us. And even then there’s no telling if I might be offended by your suggestion. LOL. Trades are tricky is an understatement.

Op- would you suck someones dick in return for a massage? 🤣 Maybe if I love you. Maybe. Hahaha.

Yes, it did.  She got some custom woodwork at a fair price. I got some private service at a fair price.  The exchanges were handled as two separate transactions.

We’re past the days when you paid the doctor with a dozen fresh eggs or a butt of smoked pork.

I might do a trade for a butt of smoked pork. Lol. Dont start in with your food porn to throw us all off now. Look at you trying to find our weaknesses. 😂

That's hilarious! I get lots asking if I want to trade for weed, and I'm like why when I can just go to the dispensary and buy it myself knowing it's not laced with something, or terrible quality!

I wrote a whole huge post before realizing it was a two-sentence answer, and this is one of the sentences.

The way to do a trade without any possibility of insulting or offending the provider is to inform her conversationally about your product or service, then wait for her to offer a trade.
