Counterfeit Money in Denver

14 posts in this topic

Okay so after being back in town a few days everyone I have come into contact with Has not heard about this news article stating that 2 million dollars in counterfeit money is floating around Denver. I check every dollar I touch but this is crazy !!! Thought since this is a mostly cash business the word should get out. Everyone check your bills !! Tried to upload a PDF file but it was too large. I recommend looking into this link and downloading the PDF it had some good info on how to spot fakes. Because the fake money these days are hard to spot. Have a good weekend!

PS: my question is how do they know this lol?

Since 2015 around Denver it's started to increase or do you mean just counterfeit money in general?

Yes I looked into the pens and they say that the pens are not very reliable, the quality of the counterfeits are getting better. They sell machines and black light products on Amazon that are more reliable, everything helps lol.

Of course just wanted everyone to know and also if there's any business owners out there make sure that you train your employees because after the article I started paying attention more and I went to the coffee shop and handed the barista a 20 and he literally just put it in the cash register didn't even glance at it !

I picked up a little trick working at the porn store during college that has saved me a headache many times. All American paper currency has raised ridges within the clothing of the presidents and often in their hair. A simple run of a finger nail across it can verify if it is real or not. For some reason it’s been the one things counterfeiters can’t seem to replicate.

Discreetly run your fingernail across the clothing and hair. If it’s real you will be able to feel and sometimes even hear the ridges and then verify by pen and the strip running through it.

Going on for a while now. From a victim stand point i will say do not trust anyone's looks. Those who will hand you fake bills drive nice cars and dress super nice and are not in a hurry. They make sure you are comfortable enough with them you dont even need to check the money. Happened to me and will always double check every bill.

I purchased Counterfeit Dual Detector pens and a UV light detector. They are cool!

As if it’s the fault of the person handing you the bill!?!

The reason “Those who will hand you fake bills drive nice cars and dress super nice and are not in a hurry.”  is because the bills are IN CIRCULATION.  Most people handling counterfeit currency have no idea it’s not the real thing.

Yes, check bills with due diligence, but let’s be careful about branding the person who handed them to you because defrauding you was probably not a willful act. (Handing you an envelope of paper clippings is a different story.)

I am not going into details of my case with you but cops can always tell you signs of someone circulating  counterfeit if you ask em

Let’s run some numbers against the FUD of clients trying to willfully defraud providers with counterfeit currency.

Say the counterfeit ring has 30 people spreading bills around the Front Range.  With 3 million in the Front Range that puts your odds somewhere in the 1/100,000 (or 0.001%) range.  Just how many customers do you have?  Surely not the 20-30/hr of the corner convince store. Even at 1 customer/day it may take years to meet that individual.  You’re more likely to die in an auto accident (1/5,000).

Does this mean you shouldn’t check bills? Of course not; bad bills are in circulation.  Just don’t assume that your customer knows it’s fake.
