Sliders and nails

27 posts in this topic

Been back to mom's house in the St Louis, Mo area. Just returned to her house from a run to White Castle with  bag full of.......sliders and nails. Holy Molly,  Still just as good as when I was in High School and college. Someday, maybe, Colorado will have a White Castle.

Can't speak to MO, but about a year ago, stopped in at the White Castle in Vegas, in Casino Royale. And sliders are no longer a quarter for a cheeseburger. Two double cheeseburgers, fries, Coke, was $9.00. On the upside, that location has beer.

Krystals are about the same. As I recall there was a product infringement suit, settled when one of the two firms agreed to not include pickles as part of the standard order.

For those who have been in Denver a “few” years, you will remember the old Mickey Manor.

Mickey Manor made burgers similar to White Castle. My father used to love going to Mickey Manor.

I’ve had Mickey Manor, White Castle and Krystal. For my money, Mickey Manor was the best of the 3.

Krystal is a far second and I won’t eat at White Castle again. Just can’t stand them. But that’s my opinion and I know I’m in the minority here.

To be honest it is as much about the memories and friends that were with me when we would buy a  bag of 10 for  dollar. Still have that unique taste and style though. $1.25 +$1.00 for nails. This franchise has REAL malts.

You might rethink that.

The Ingram family's steadfast refusal to franchise or take on debt throughout the company's existence has kept the chain relatively small, with a more discontinuous geography than its principal competitors.” {Wikipedia}

I can remember driving to Columbus and getting ten for a dollar, in two feet of snow.

Bring on In-N-Out Burger to Denver.  I heard that maybe in 2020 they will finally have a presence in Colorado.  Far superior to McDonalds.

Sliders from White Castle brings back some fond teenage memories.  There was one on the south side of Chicago that was open 24 hours a day.  What a treat to get a dozen sliders in the middle of the night.  WOW !!  Thanks for bringing back some fond memories.

I was just in NW Indiana visiting family for Christmas and I had to satisfy my White Castle craving. Yummy! I wish there were a White Castle here.

Then I discovered Shake Shak in Chicago and I’m in love with their buttermilk chicken sandwich 🤤 I heard there’s some in Colorado

I remember in college guys talking about eating 2 dozen at a time. I never knew what they looked like and couldn't figure how you could eat that many at one time. When they came to Kansas City,  I finally understood. Never got used to their taste. Fries and malts  were good.  They fizzled here and left town. One quality burger is better than 12 sliders in my opinion. Glad you enjoyed your visit and relived a happy memory or two.

I’ve had steak ‘n Shake before I’m not a big fan . But Shake shak is the bomb. If you ever find one you should definitely try it out

The first In-N-Out to open will have a longer line than when Krispy Kreme opened in Park Meadows.  I was in that mile-long line for doughnuts, and just might be in the line for an Animal Style Double-Double.

When I mentioned In-N-Out coming to Colorado, I was told that it will be in COS.  Figures...that's where Taco Bueno opened and they haven't expanded to Denver.

I won't sit in an hour (or longer) line for an In-N-Out fix.  I'll wait for the novelty to die out...just like Krispy Kreme.

What I wish would come to Colorado is Bob Evans. Their cherry bread is phenomenal!

Re: In-N-Out: if I remember the news stories, the Rockies warehouse will be in COS, as will be the first franchise. But they have plans for Denver shortly after that (seem to recall at least two to start: South and somewhere more north). They did have a popup restaurant a while back, so, Denver is not out of the plans.

That said, not wild about them. Ok burger, fries are good since they are fresh from the fryer. CA burgers, more of a fan of Habit Burger. Charbroiled, same quality as InOut, have a condiment bar where you can add jalapenos and other peppers to the burger. InOut has late hours, so, can get a better than the big guys burger late.

The Denver Drumstick located on west Colfax at the JCRS shopping center. I loved going there. Great fried chicken.

Denver needs Whataburger to come back.
