Vanilla master card scam or real ?

28 posts in this topic

I was recently asked to put the donation on a vanilla master card for her safety as a cop would not do that ... this is new to me felt it might be a sting or a set up would appreciate some feed back please and thank you.

Anyone who asks for money prior to an appointment is a scammer.

Too many warnings about this!!!

I am not certain I agree with that as many ladies have been stood up and require deposits especially if they are traveling....It would all depend on if the lady is established or not.....If you are not comfortable with that then certainly don not do it and explain to her your reasoning....Then possibly you can work out another arrangement but my advice is do only what you are comfortable doing and only if the lady is established...

Did not ask for it in advance? Asked just that I do it and that she did not accept cash only cards as the cops would not do that ... never heard of that

Couldn’t agree more. Many legit ladies ask for deposits and have never once ripped someone off. In fact outside of Colorado deposits are a much more normal part of the hobby. Bit of a blanket statement to say even those ladies are rip offs. I’ve never heard of a provider asking for a donation on a gift card and I personally wouldn’t but to each their own. I would make sure the provider in question has many reviews and a strong web presence. Just my two cents.

If the lady would not get possession of the actual card OR the card number and pass word needed to access the balance until you meet in person, I see no way she is trying to scam anyone.  She could cash and dash, but easier with cash lol.  I just think it sounds like a newbie that believes just another bs "cops can't" urban legend that is false, false, false.  So the only red flag I see is she has no clue how to keep herself safe, therefore good luck with keeping you safe.  Now if she gets the card or the card info BEFORE you meet in person, there are many scams facilitated by that set up.  There are also some who ask for a deposit, but that is a gamble unless it is an established lady that plans to stick around.

We just went through this same subject roughly a month ago.

Many reputable ladies do take deposits prior to meetings. I'm concerned about her reasoning.... she wanted him to prove he is not LE. That concerns me that she does not know how to screen, and lord only knows if she then knows how to run a "business", and what he may be walking into. :o

It sounds like you may be a little green, and it may be best to stick with ladies on the board who appeal to you, and have reviews by reputable reviewers. Maybee the guys can help you. Best wishes, and happy holidays.

If she is also screening the gentlemen that she sees then she would or should feel comfortable with the clients she chooses to see so the idea of you having to provide something more like the additional described scenario is unnecessary. If that is the issue she should accept CC.

If you're talking about a local girl in a normal rate range, I would pass and move on to a girl who takes cash. Some traveling ladies and higher end escort do require deposits, but if that's not what you're talking about, I'd be very cautious.

I'm in the scam camp, as it seems like most of the legit ladies that take deposits are doing via Venmo, Paypal, etc. And not asking for full donation, unless you ate flying them in. The prepaid credit card scam is similar to what the IRS tax scammers do.

Quote

The victim purchases a Green Dot card at a local store and proceeds to call back the number they were given. The victim is instructed to scratch off and read the MoneyPak card serial number to the perpetrator.

Once the scammer has the Green Dot MoneyPak serial number they are able to transfer funds onto a prepaid debit card. The victim has now lost their money.

http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloads/pdf/crime_prevention/greendot.pdf

Substitute Green Dot with any preload credit card, iTunes, Starbucks, Walmart, etc gift cards.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR FEEDBACK I had already told this young lady no thank you but wanted to see if I was missing something new,

she was not asking for it in advance as a matter of fact said I could give it to her as I was done and leaving the date ...

To many red flags for me but I knew I could count on the honest feedback of this community.

Have fun be safe enjoy the moments

Thank you Thecoach and please feel free to ask should you have any other info you wish to discuss or have a question or just want some lively conversation, as you see we are a great group of people who are eager to assist or provide our thoughts and ideas that might provide a different prospective on most topics....We are glad to share our knowledge and experiences with those who are seem genuine as we believe knowledge is power and it helps us all in the process of building the best place to call home on the net....While I am not exactly certain you actually got the exact info you were hoping, I hope it does help....While you have posted several times in the past, I have certainly been lacking in my social graces by failing to welcome you before now, so welcome....

Have a wonderful evening and be safe everyone....

Just to add to this......she says not to give her the donation until after the session. Interesting.  I’ve certainly done that with P411 dates but others, less likely. Just a head scratcher to me.

What Cali and Audrey said..it could be someone who has no clue what they are doing in regards to screening and what constitutes LE booking or not...(meaning they will get caught up in something down the line) ...but unfortunately... if it was not required UNTIL the session when you met her- I'm afraid it's potentially a clue of something more ominous..

Cash cards are easier to move across travel distances, state lines and airports.... (namely if this girl has a pimp or "manager" who requires that -it's easier for them to get the client to pay the purchase fee)... everything reeks not of scam but of someone who is not doing this on their own and is managed.

I'd rethink how you are finding these "providers" or how you are screening them yourselves and glad that you are not supporting that. I've heard of that before...and it's usually one of the 2 scenarios brought up more than a "scam"

I just had the exact same request! Put donation on a Vanilla Mastercard to be given to her after the session. And that was one of two flags, the other being she wanted to know what ad I was responding to as she was a law student living between cities...all seemed contrived. I passed.

Had a potential client ask me about putting money on a Vanilla card yesterday? Very interesting!

I don't feel comfortable with anything that can be traced of this nature either! This being said, unless we met before, and I know you well? I am not comfortable with plastic wire. I don't have a plastic wire account either.  I do know that now they're popular and possibly easier to use for people who travel.  However, this thread has grabbed my attention due to thinking about the last election ballot and one of the questions on the ballot was to regulate Payday loans. I don't believe in big government and I feel that everyone should have a choice on how they wish to collect their rates and pay for their needs. Yes, if you are reckless with your money you can get in trouble with those Payday loans. Payday loan offices are over the place (one at the end of the street by my office). They have very high interest rates too! However, so does regular credit cards too. I also know that Payday location offices as well as  other retail stores all over the city sell these cards that you can load with cash and use over and over again. I know several people that would prefer to use this form of money verses a traditional bank account and nothing wrong with that!  I  also know that some people have gotten in trouble with reckless spending  and loss their bank accounts so they use those cards like a regular bank account and it works well for them.  It's none of my business to say how others should handle their expenses in life. I  also voted NO on that amendment by the way!   Because,I will always say, power to the choice.

Just the same  as for others on here Cash is King for me!

Is this "her"? And was "she" advertising in Colorado Springs or another city? http://colorado-springs.skipthegames.com/female-escorts/caucasian_w/come-get-me-i-got-you-togethe/836268214907.

"Another city" is an understatement. Over the year, she "just moved" to several areas to be a law clerk. For example:

Different names, numbers. All(?) ads are text contact. If same woman as OP's, leaning toward definite re: scam. Sure, "lady" says can give card after session, but guessing will ask for the number before the meeting, "to verify you are real and not a cop and that the full donation is on it". And then crickets or sends you on a goose chase. Aka the old Green Dot hooker scam.

Let's look at it from an ASP angle: would one do a session with a total stranger and then take a possibly empty loadable Visa/Mastercard for payment? If for real, one of the most dumb ones out there, or, scam.

Forgot to add: cases like ads above, you can Google ad text, just put it in quotes. I quoted/searched the majority of the first sentence, and ran it through both Google and Duck Duck Go.

Scammers are lazy, so, can use that against them to find the breadcrumb trail.

Here's another: are there suckers who would load a card, pay a "deposit"/for the room, and who knows what other foolishness? Then, why the hell not?!

Ah yes, TOR's Duck Duck Go which, and though it could be I also use a VPN, doesn't do Google searches very well. Point being, Caveat Emptor, right?

Somebody was just recently telling me about something called a "ATM". Now there are "Vanilla" credit cards?

Looks like I've been missing a lot!

Actually, DDG does many times do better than Google, as long as safe mode is off. Google seems, at least to me, to be applying some level of nanny filtering re: ASPs/SW sites/ads. So, I'll run a phone  number through both sites to get a (hopefully) bigger picture.
