That last should have been Jean Ritchie’s rendition of this (YouTube kept messing with the link)

A more commercial version by Johnny Cash

Got it right this time

Arlo Guthrie: City of New Orleans. Johnny Cash does it justice as well.

If I gave "Thumbs Up" to everyone, I would be out of rep points.  But so far, everyone's choices are outstanding.

Rock Island Line by Johnny Cash. Trivia: The line was actually a conglomeration of lines starting in Chicago. It was supposed to run to the west coast, but didn't quite make it. It went as far as Limon, where it split and one line went to Colorado Springs and the other Denver. Those routes are now what is I-70 and Hwy 24. Some of it is now "Rock Island Trail" from Colorado Springs to Peyton.

If you like this song try these versions

and the original from Lead Belly (Huddie Ledbetter)

Oops!

Here’s the original Lomax recording. Ledbetter was with the Lomax brothers when they recorded this. He polished the song & took it commercial.
