What Are You Reading?

46 posts in this topic

Hi TOB! I'm wondering how many bookworms we have here... What is everyone reading? Or favorite book(s)?  I am currently reading 'The Fountainhead' by Ayn Rand after 'Cloud Atlas' decided we needed a break lol

Let me know, I'm going book shopping again soon and would love some ideas

Get "Native Strength" by Hyapatia Lee. Don't know what stores its in,Amazon does have it. Its a really good book ,if you are into philosophy . Its now a  self help tv series on many PBS stations. Yes,Hyapatia is a long retired porn star/stripper,but this book touches on none of that. Good reading and this ole man learned a lot from it.

I read/listen to several at once, I get bored with too much of one subject.

I just started Robin by Dave Itzkoff, a biography of Robin Williams.  Liking it so far.

Non-Fiction: Make Your Bed by William McRaven.  Its teaching me to harness my quirks.

Also re-reading for the nth time Algorithms for Everyday Life because math rules everything.

Fiction: Spy novels, serial killer novels, detective novels, an occasional religious fiction novel (😳 surprise for those who know me).

Nin-Fiction history too.

Almost anything that can entertain me as long as I am holding a book in my hands.  No Kindle for me.

One of the best books I ever read was “At Dawn We Slept” by Howard Prange.

He interviewed every surviving American and Japanese officer he could find who was involved in the attack on Pearl Harbor and wrote an account based on their stories.

I read this book I believe in either the 80’s or early 90’s.  The book is out of print I believe but I still have my copy.

If you can find it, read it.  I highly recommend it.

I agree No Kindle, but I have to admit that I have a books on both Kindle and Nook apps, but I use those books more for reference than enjoyment.

@SexiKenni

I am one of the BIGGEST bookworms! Lol.

There are 2 books that I say you MUST read.

A Million Little Pieces

My Friend Lenard

Both by James Frey.

Have to read them in order.

Currently reading a book by Dean Koontz, and he's another one of my favorite authors. We gotta get together and talk books!

I read a lot of Koontz and Stephen King and really enjoyed them, but it's been a while. May have to grab one of the many Koontz books off the shelf and read it again

Currently reading Outside the Dog Museum by Jonathan Carroll and Then Everything Changed - Stunning Alternative Histories of American Politics: JFK, RFK, Carter, Ford, Reagan by Jeff Greenfield. And there is always a stack of weird old vintage comics on bedside table.

I read a million little pieces when it first came out, I loved it. I was unaware he published anything post scandal. I love Dean Kootz and had started rereading the Odd Thomas series and he just wasn't doing for me as he once did. I may have to go back to some of his earlier stuff.

Currently reading "When Breath Becomes Air" - by Paul Kalanithi

It is a nonfiction novel about a neurosurgeon that was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. A surgeon that was treating the dying and in the blink of the eye became the patient struggling to live. Amazing book so far. It really dives into the reality that in a second what is constant and redundant too many can change in a split second. That we take things like our health, etc. for granted without a second thought until the shoe is on the other foot. I think that everyone to include myself can concur with that thought process periodically in our lives. This book is spellbinding to me.. Love it.

I too loved a million little pieces when it came out. Even after finding out that the endorsed book on Oprah's Book Club List was not an actual nonfiction read and/or based on a true story but in fact was fiction. The first portion when he goes to the dentist and has oral surgery (root canals) without anesthetic because of the non-narcotic policy when in a inpatient rehabilitation/substance abuse program, was painful even to just read. That book had me completely engrossed, cover to cover.

The Kindle Paperwhite (too cheap to get the Oasis) is one of the best things I've ever bought.  It's much easier to read at night or day.  The only books I have remaining are ones that were autographed.

Never bothered with kindle ,get too many books to review as it is.  Just finished reading Michael Nesmith's "Infinite Tuesday."  One of the most refreshing autobiography's  ever. Barely touches on the most famous two years of his career and doesn't have any negative dirt in it on anyone. He still captured my attention from page to page. Oh, yes..it is autographed...but that has nothing to do with my enjoyment.

I wish there was like a book club shelf somewhere like how they have at different Starbucks. The “Take a Book. Leave a Book”

there’s only one by me and I have too many books to let others enjoy!
