Cin City used to have a head shop in the lower level.  Englewood cops were always trying to shut it down.

so kinda off topic...but I have a turntable that i bought in the 70's and is in need of repair / refurb...do that our buy a new one?  it's a techniques...don't remember what i paid for it but since i was a college student...prob not a lot.

what do y'all think?

No harm to see what it would take to rehab. The shop(s) can then also give you an idea on how much it would cost to keep alive (ie. cartridges, needles).

But guessing new turntables, though not cheap, are probably far superior products, what with the improved motors and materials, things like rumble are pretty much in the past. New turntables are built like tanks now.

ADD: not sure WHO to take it to these days. Most of the used equipment places I've used back in the Stoneage are long gone. Listen Up is still in business, so, maybe that's a starting point.

I just did a yelp search and there are a few places listed for repair of turntables.

Wish i could give you a recommendation but I haven't used a turntable in 20 years.

My turntable and roughly 3,00 vinyls burned up in a small fire we had in our house 20 years ago.

My old Pioneer turntable died, and when I was shopping for a replacement, for about $50 more than a good (not great) turntable, I got a good (not great) turntable that automatically and real-time, digitizes my music.  That way when I play a vinyl record, it simultaneously downloads it to my I-phone (if I remember to plug my I-phone into to it).  Quality is great, the only downside is that the album carries none of the digital info, so you don't get the picture of the cover, names of the songs, etc., although the turntable does separate the separate songs into separate files.

That way I can listen to Janis in the basement when I am really hammered, and later on play her through the sound system in my car when I am on my way to get hammered.  Best of both worlds and works way better than the old turntable on the back seat procedure.

thanks for the replies...I think i will at least get a quote for rehabing my oldie...could not hurt!   if it's too expensive, maybe it's worth something as a parts donor...LOL.

LOL! Yeah I’m an old soul! Plus being born in 75 I come upon it honestly.

I also like Lady Gaga, Panic at the Disco, Selena Gomez, and Taylor Swift to name a few.
