Yeah, I feel you. Same with me. Im wondering if I should shut down my personal site.

Your site may end up being the only way to continue for a while.

I recall a thread from years ago where the ASP recounted how years before that that she had to go to the newspaper's office to post an initial set of ads (once you opened the account, can renew ad over the phone). Seem to recall that she needed to provide ID and credit card in her name.

Can see someone big like Backpage doing something similar. To post an ad, need to provide copy of ID, credit card in their name, verification pic of provider. Can take it further by verifying info provided against the personal information databases out there. Once ok, then can post ads.

I never worked in the Oyster's ad sales department. However, being observant by nature, did notice several ladies starting up their advertising when I dropped off content and picked up promo product. Rarely saw them in the office again,so am assuming that was the procedure there. Do know they signed a contract stating they were not doing anything illegal.

So, thoughts on Twitter???? I mean a lot of ladies advertise there.

This bill would then make it possible for me to sue Twitter if someone hurt me, robbed me etc. That’s one of the reason people are shutting down their sites. This bill takes away that protection. Tricky political A-holes are using the disguise of human trafficking, but well when you actually pay attention, it’s going to effect everything on the web. The smaller websites will be impacted the most because they won’t have the money to defend themselves.

Which is probably one of the reasons the big boys aren’t fighting this. It’s not goring their ox (YET!!!), and who wants to be branded as supporting sex trafficking. Too bad FB & Alphabet (et.al.) don’t see the harm this will do to their industry. I can’t wait until karma bites them. Some teen dies because of FB posts(*), then FB gets charged with accessory to murder because of 3rd party content.

(*) I don’t really want anyone to die, but that’s what it will take to get their attention.

Not sure about the level of concern that is being expressed I believe that the courts have ruled that companies are not completely responsible for what someone does with their products. Example the gun industry

The reason the big boys aren’t fighting is because it limits their competition. Small actors will see this law as a barrier to entry and will choose not to get into the biz of hosting public hosting or sites.

In case anyone remotely wonders about the motives of Congress - pandering and reelection only, NOT in doing anything about actual trafficking - here is a link.  Even the Justice Department opposed this lawn turd of legislation and thinks it is unconstitutional.

https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20180227/15314039324/doj-tells-congress-sesta-fosta-will-make-it-more-difficult-to-catch-traffickers-house-votes-it-anyway.shtml

Please, remember who voted to pass this travesty this fall when casting your vote. And remember which party supported it (BOTH!!), then consider for once the alternatives - Libertarian, etc.

I see no reason for The Press to hide behind the 1st Amendment. If what they write/print doesn’t agree with the government view, they should be locked up and their printing presses destroyed!

So...you are moving to Iran or Russia ????

If they allow even personal advertising related to "prostitution" they are  subject to the law every bit as much so as BP, TER, etc.  Perhaps even more.  Ditto Facebook and all the others.  Ditto your web host provider that provides the server your personal web site is on.

Actually the reason I think (hope!!) the big boys haven't started their assault yet is they have to wait until the law has had an adverse effect.  You cannot sue over effects and constitutionality of the law very easily until it is actually enforced against someone.  Then the verdict and effect can be appealed.  It is the time for the big boys to assemble their legal team and their budgets and arguments quietly waiting for the right case to pop up.  Matter of time.  The issue for escorts/johns is what to do in meantime until the law gets at least gutted by courts.  I believe that will happen but may take a while.

Make sure both your server, register, and domain are based offshore in Provider friendly countries that have no reason to hand over security to US 👌🏾

I appreciate your attempts to keep folks informed on this very important topic (seriously, I do), but please fact check bs you see on twitter before posting - directed at everyone btw.  Bp has not closed, TER has not closed, Reddit has not banned topics or subreddits for sex workers, etc.  The list is FUD.  There is enough concern for the actual effects without hyperbole and false statements.

Worrying or stressing isn’t going to change any of this. Maybe collectively we should ask if there is anything we all can do to help keep TOB up and going strong.  Actively do something instead of running around like chicken littles.

Whisperer, is there anything all of us in this community can do to help keep TOB up and going strong?  Please don’t hesitate to ask...we got your back!😘

Now go hide some damn eggs and play some pranks. Everyone just breathe and enjoy the day.

BP changed the way postings  are allowed in all but the massage section a few weeks ago In anticipation of this.

TER shut down the U.S. advertising section as soon as this was passed.

CityVibe shut down.

Twitter, Instagram, Periscope has shut down accounts in the past that they felt violated their “G” rates rules.

Don’t believe me, go check it out for yourself.

"Back page has closed" vs. "changed the way postings are allowed"  Is this the same thing???

"The Erotic Review closed" vs, "shutdown the US advertising section"  Is this the same thing??  Anything to say they do nor reopen it with BP type changes??

The point was that ACCURATE information relative to what is transpiring is helpful and useful to all.  Hyperbole and out and out false statements are just FUD.   Re=posting such without fact checking is not productive.
