Got a week in Kawai for $599.  You can also find great deals on tickets.

Anywhere on Riviera Maya, just south of Cancun in Mexico.  I once got round-trip tickets from Denver, transfers, and a week at an all-inclusive luxury oceanside  resort for $950.  The people are delightful (Mayans), the water is warm, the snorkeling is great, the food is terrific, and nobody wears much clothing.

FYI, Vegas is only cheap in winter if you pick the right days. From Thanksgiving week until December 26 is cheap (starting on 26th through CES first week-ish of January rates skyrocket). February is usually cheap in that weather can be hit/miss. March, rates go back through the roof due to great weather, spring breaks, people wanting to escape winter where they live, pools get into full-swing mode.

To echo others, Hawaii, Mexico. Not warm, but believe Iceland this time of year is cheap and weather is not brutal like people expect (30s). Europe is cheap this time of year, and again, weather tends to be mild.

If you are willing to be off-strip, there are some great holiday bargains in Vegas.  Last New Years my family got a two-bedroom suite in one of the fancy resorts out at Lake Las Vegas, December 29 through January 2, for about $150 / night.  Plus, they threw a really nice party with a live band and free champaigne, and shot off fireworks.  Highly recommended if you are too old to stay up to 3 am on the strip.

Leona,

now is a great time to travel. off peak season you can always get great deals. better rates for hotels and flights. and if you do a flight and hotel package super great deals! I usually book an airb&b property, but so not cool with the recent added taxes!

I'm heading out to Portland Ore in a couple of weeks. got a killer rate for the flight and a 4 star hotel. super stoked!!!
