Facebook and social media

5 posts in this topic

Hey everybody. I hope you all had a beautiful weekend. The weather has been really nice. As a weather nerd I expect it to be a dry winter. It already has been!

I wanted to bring something up because it's been on my mind. I sometimes find myself wanting to delete my facebook account but something always tugs me back to it. And the funny thing is I am not really missing anything... but if I don't have one I feel like I wouldn't talk to certain people as much because for some reason facebook messenger seems to be how everyone communicates instead of texting. It feels that way for me.

If I deleted facebook I would end up missing a few people and I am at a loss. I only have ten friends on there and I do use it for news like weather and hockey and a couple of pages... but I am finding as the days go on it may be contributing to some depression in my life. (for certain reasons)

I don't know where I am ging with this but I am just finding that for me as the days go on I find  more and more pointless. Yet when I feel the urge to just delete it I don't really want to because of a few people.

I guess I was just wondering what everybody thought of social media. Including twitter etc. I think facebook is a good idea in general... except what it's turned into to me it just seems like a giant mess now. It's always political and when I read comments its really horrible things people say about other people. Youtube is just as bad. Have you ever read youtube comments??

I've been going through severe heartbreak when I fell in love with this amazing women too and she broke up with me. I almost threw up and I think I didn't sleep for a week. Its been a year or so... I thought I am better but I saw she was getting married and it was devastating to be quite honest and it’s been really hard for me. I find social media has become harder having to see certain things still.

I hardly post on there at all. Once in a blue moon when I do it's just an article I find interesting or a song I really love.. and then I think gee this is all kinda pointless.

Like I said it's so weird because I find myself holding onto it even though it's like I am not really even missing anything... except a couple of buds I talk to that makes it very hard to get rid of. And I wouldn't be able to talk to them like we do now.

Anyway... I guess I was just curious on how everyone keeps in touch these days and if you are one of the people out there who have gotten rid of fb or twitter etc. Or if you use it and enjoy it and benefit from it!

My facebook account is a mix of friends from the music industry, porn industry, strippers and a pair of escorts. As well as friends not associated with work ( although they are in the minority ) . Found it to be a great place to socialize and network, except when anyone talks politics and that is when the bigotry comes out of the closet. Fake news/propaganda is everywhere on fb.

Interestingly , my old MySpace account has really increased in traffic this past year. Nobody talks politics and I have yet to see any hate groups on it spreading fake news and propaganda. Actually getting more work there vs facebook !!  (stunning fact )

On both social sites I get news about whats going on in my friends list lives, of which some is heartbreaking and some  exhilarating.

Its a your choice situation to delete or keep, but it sounds more like you just need a break from it. That is actually quite healthy as nothing beats the reality of life away from the internet.

Heartbreak can be the pain that goes with the pleasure of Facebook.  Yes, I too am amazed on how MySpace is doing these days. Enjoy your break, get back into it when you feel enough time has passed.

I don't use FB messenger and I unfollow anyone whose posts I don't want to see. That way I can get in touch with FB "friends" when I want to, but I'm not beholden to them. I mostly keep FB as a virtual contact list for times that I need to get in touch.
