Great article. Can't wait until they out someone in WitSec to the Mob or an abused spouse to their stalker resulting in a trip to the morgue.

Just one more reason to NEVER join FuckButt.  Yes, I missed many family pictures, but I smelled a rat.

On a side note: Welcome back, Elizabeth.

On an AI related note, pornhub is using it to enhance your viewing experience.

I got sent some "porn" last night that surpassed anything Pornhubs AI can com up with.  Holy Crap!

Its just creepy that every business and government agency is cyberstalking us.

I swear....it may be time to sign out and settle down.

Actually, might be able to answer this. If you look at both pages of Facebook on the same account through your phone/laptop, cookies seem to track who you connect to so if you are wanting to keep your identity hidden...you should look at one of your FB on one device, and the other on your tablet, laptop, etc. and never cross them. I have on my devices separates accounts for business and personal, and I do not mix them. It was a bit crazy figuring it out, but it was the best thing I ever did. Lots of phones will allow you to set up multiple accounts now, and worth the money.

It's not just cookies.  Sites also log your CPU unique identifier and IP address.  To be truly seperate, you need to use your facebook laptop at home with the family using your family internet.  Get a seperate pad/laptop for business only. Use it via a different network account using mobile data.

Never ever ever communicate between the two devices.  This means you need to use a data key and sneakernet to transfer files from one to the other.

It takes a great deal of effort to keep the two worlds apart.

Beat me to it. Separate devices. Facebook and FB messenger want all the permissions on your phone. It wants access to photos, numbers, call logs, texts, camera. Don't even download the app on business phones. It's a giant pain in the ass though to maintain two phones and for us providers it's really helpful if the business phone is a smart phone which is more expensive and suspicious.

As Samantha and Yorick point out, need to keep the two worlds "physically" separate.

And as Nikki points out, goes for clients as well: don't go to your real social media site on your hobby phone.

LinkedIn is similar to Facebook. I get regular emails from them on my burner email account re: "do you know", and the first few are providers I have contacted in the past (with a couple of cases, seemingly real world work profiles [ie. none of the vague "independent sales", "entertainment industry"]), and guessing the remaining men are johns of one or the other provider.

In the case of Android phones, need to be careful with app permissions: some ask for everything when probably do not need most or any they are asking for.

Need to be careful on any social  app re: allowing contacts access. Early days of Facebook, they were pulling in people's contacts and "helpfully" adding more contacts for you in your real contacts of people you might know. And of course, using every piece of info you allow to be used against you.

Amusing article.  For whats its worth, I run my hs fb page as well as my personal one. Have music and adult industry friends on my personal one. On my HS page, i get suggestions to add my music industry friends to it...but never my adult industry friends. Hmm, explain that ??

Those too. I can say with my new device, I used a specific app(can't remember the name though) that actually allows privacy between both accounts. It was the big reason I bought the phone because of the feature. I also use the new Firefox Focus which seems to work great and I also downloaded Avira for even more protection. Now I just need to be more vigilant on the usage but I am getting better about security. I am sure there are other things out there, but these are the ones I found.

Samantha Sheppard

This is why I believe that it is location based. If the two of us have been in the same spot, it somehow ties us together. They claim that is not true, but there is no other explanation.

So very true.

If big brother wants to find you, he can do it within a matter of minutes....facial recognition, cell phone tracking, etc.  The only missing is the chip implanted in our bodies or the bar code on the back of our neck.

While the advice for separate devices for separate accounts and keeping them absolutely separated is very good, that only covers one small piece of the pie.  Unless EVERY person you interact with via FaceBook, Instagram, Google plus, any fucking android application, gmail, bing, msn, and the list goes on, similarly secures their end (and you know not all will) your "separated" accounts will eventually be connected if you make one small mistake.  For instance, every google or android application and most voice mail applications these days will hit you with an "all permissions" approval in the download and installation process - meaning you give that app access to EVERYTHING on your phone.  The most insidious one is visual voice which gives no option out of the window other than close (and not have voice mail) or accept and give them everything.  That is why I no longer have voice mail and frankly I am loving it.  So unless you have paid complete attention to the fine print on all those "I accept these terms and conditions statements" they do NOT need anything nearly so out there as location matching.  Besides, that would be too inaccurate for their purposes.

An example.  I am pretty aggressive about separate devices, separate accounts, etc.  But I made one mistake by using a FB account under totally made up name that I ONLY have in order to post via WordPress and others and to be able to see provider SM accounts - the mistake taking the "sign in with FB" option to access a provider's Instagram because I got lazy and it was easier on the not so smart phone to sign in that way than to create an Instagram account.  Because SHE does not have her two lives separated and protected from one another for beans, it literally only took a half hour before that FB account of mine got a friend suggestion for her REAL name and RL FB.  Not the end of the world in and of itself because we both already knew each others real names - been seeing long time.  But because she had my RW info on her RW sites it also only took till the next morning before SHE got friend requests on BOTH RL and Provider Life accounts from MY REAL NAME accounts.  Yeah.  And now that linkage is available to all on both her RL and PL SM accounts - which is a bunch of people I know nothing about.  Working to blast my RW lose and separate again but it aint easy.  And I am usually pretty damn anal and careful.  So for all of you out there that are not anal and careful to the extreme ....... you get the picture.  No location matching, big brother involvement, aliens or conspiracy theories necessary to explain your accounts getting matched - that is the prime directive for most SM sites these days - mine as much data as technologically possible and then market it to others.  In my example the path went through FB, Google and Instagram, not just one - they are all sharing and swapping.  On positive note for me personally - no wife or SO, etc. to hide from, if employer fires me fuck it I was gonna retire anyway, family - don't hear from most anyway and the rest can just get over it, so not as big a deal for me as most.  Be safe as you can out there.

I was wondering how Facebook connected the information.

I tried to maintain a little separation too - but now I have noticed my Google/You Tube searches got intertwined with my alter-ego, - even though I use separate browsers.  However - no SO - and I am not much of a threat to national security, so I don't care much.  There are 8 billion+ of us crawling around on the planet and I just think don't think many of those 8 billion care where my weenie's been.

Cool or very scary thing I discovered on Google Plus.  I can go back and physically see where I was (or where my phone was) almost to the minute - going back for years!  For me - that's cool - because I'm boring and easily amused - but for others... this may be something you might want to un-check in you settings in case someone gets a hold of your password...

There are other settings as well re: tracking your history in Google service that should maybe be disbled, otherwise, you do get these scenarios. Sorry, can't recall where those are buried on Google's site and too lazy to dig right now.

Personally, DuckDuckGo is my search engine of choice due to good results and (allegedly) respect privacy.

I don't think Twitter is any more secure than the rest on them. Those bits have to pass through the ether. 😕

I think I'm back to a pair of tin cans & a string. Even those notes passed in class may get intercepted. 😜
