Posted September 28, 2017 If you're into that sort of thing, Battlefield Vegas can be interesting. Got to shoot a few I missed in the service, like an MP3 grease gun. They also offer desert tours. Check out Hoover Dam.
Posted September 28, 2017 The Carroll Shelby museum is pretty cool, if you like cars.

After my epic fail at paintball this year I want as much practice I can get!
Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) If you really like cars, there is a racetrack on the far north end of town where you can book really exotic fast cars and drive lightning laps around their track. Probably not cheap, though. Edited September 28, 2017 by BadBoy

For Battlefield Vegas you do not need a permit. They are very range safety conscious, providing you with a personal guide to your selected weapon. They have a very wide selection of weapons (350), many fully automatic. As I recall my visit a few years ago was about $60/weapon. Check out https://www.battlefieldvegas.com/ There are similar establishments, but BV is my personal experience. Posted September 28, 2017 The last Vegas speedway does have the Richard Petty driving experience available from $100-$600 depending on what kind of experience you want. If you drive by yourself, you will have to follow a seasoned driver around the track and be limited to a max speed of around 135 mph. Would still be a kick though. This is from someone I know who did the experience at Daytona a few years ago. Go into old town Vegas if you haven't already or Green Valley Ranch. I don't know much more to do around Vegas...I'm always stuck near the strip for conventions.

Posted September 28, 2017 National Atomic Testing Museum: http://nationalatomictestingmuseum.org The Mob Museum: https://themobmuseum.org Sloan Canyon Wilderness area (yes, there is a wilderness area, for all intent and purpose, right inside Las Vegas), petroglyph area with tons on petroglyphs: https://www.blm.gov/sloan-canyon-nca (Also in general area: http://sevenmagicmountains.com). Red Rock Canyon: https://www.blm.gov/site-page/RRCNCA If you had more time, Valley of Fire State Park about 1-1.5 hrs north is a Monument Valley-like park. Arts District: funky little shops, dive bars, coffee shops https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/18b_The_Las_Vegas_Arts_District Fremont Street has been going through a renaissance, getting gastropubs, breweries, hipster bars, what with Zappos setting up HQ there, condos going up. Starting to take on a LoDo type vibe, if you can get past the giant canopy, zipline, casinos. Speaking of ziplines, there is a 1.5mi long one (4 segments) out in the desert: https://www.flightlinezbootleg.com Vegas now has NHL at T-Mobile Arena (next to NYNY casino). Folks mentioning the speedway, along the car theme, the Bonnie & Clyde death car is in Primm, off I-15 at the CA state line. Just across the line from there is a giant solar farm that reflects sunlight onto boilers a hundred feet off the ground (neat to see if into green energy facilities). Ethel M factory: tours of the plant, store to buy stuff, and have a cactus garden outside of the plant (decorate the cacti with lights, especially for Xmas): https://www.ethelm.com/category/visiting+the+factory.do If into birding (not sure it's still "in season"), the Henderson Waste Treatment plant gets a wide array of different birds heading to/from Mexico. Considered one of the better viewing places in the US due to the wide variety of birds that stop in on the ponds there. Springs Preserve, site of the original spring/water source of Vegas. Gardens, art installations: http://www.springspreserve.org/ Tule Springs Fossil Beds is on the far NW side of town, up for National Monument status. Fossils, dinosaur tracks. Not exactly sure exactly where the relics are and how to access, but if feeling adventurous... Smith Center might have something going on. Vegas equivalent of Denver Performing Arts Center/Temple Buell. http://www.thesmithcenter.com Sand Dollar Lounge, dive bar, live bands, popular for musicians in town to occasionally drop in and play a set or two: http://thesanddollarlv.com/ If one has a lot of free time, can take a kayak trip down the Colorado starting from Hoover Dam. Easy water, some hot springs along the way, vapor caves. Several guide outfits out there for that. Lotus of Siam is supposedly really good Thai food (order from the back of the menu is supposedly the way to go) with the bonus of supposedly a phenomenal Riesling selection (got the wine info from a highly respected master sommelier). Obviously, in Vegas often and not doing Vegas (read: avoiding the Strip; family members have retired to Vegas).
Posted September 28, 2017 (edited) Forgot Bootlegger Bistro. Sunday night open-mics get the occasional special guest drop-in: http://bootleggerlasvegas.com/events/2017-10/ Oh-and: re: pawn shop: assuming referencing the "Pawn Stars" pawn shop? Yes, still around. Big tourist trap. Shop is small, the principles are rarely there. Have built up a strip mall next door with BBQ joint, bar, souvenir shops, etc. But Luv It frozen custard stand is near by (pretty good custard, crummy neighborhood, but people frequent Luv It, so, won't get jumped). Limited number of seats, all day, need to run your you through the bad guy database. Books up, so, need to plan this one out. Been meaning to do this myself. Get to visit some big holes in the ground where the bombs were set off. http://www.nnss.gov/pages/PublicAffairsOutreach/NNSStours.html
