Posted September 11, 2017 So I've occasionally come across providers that say they accept credit cards. I guess I'm still on the old school of etiquette? I learned early on, donation in an envelope, leave envelope in an obvious or specified location, then perhaps excuse yourself to freshen up for a moment. Its the motto of no physical exchange of the donation. So how would your credit card work in this situation? I'm basically handing cash to a provider in the credit scenario. Also, if the provider isn't reputable who knows what could happen? I thoroughly feel the ability to use a smart phone and card reader is great especially for small businesses. Bitcoin and other crypto currencies are ok if, from a provider angle, wants to treat that as an investment (i.e. has liquid assets for day-to-day, emergencies, etc), but due to its fluctuating value and still not many places to easily convert to real cash (and without transaction fees), tough to use and or your $XXX dollars is no longer $XXX in value. Would not be my choice for services rendered. Credit cards, provider on the hook for fees (percentage) of all transactions. And she might get their CC service cutoff if servicer finds out what the money is for (pretty much stock clause in the contracts with servicer regarding that). Paypal, Patreon, et al. are similar: stories on this board by providers re: their Paypal account getting shutdown and funds frozen. If using CC, would use those Visa/MC/AMEX gift cards: not directly tied to you (assuming not paying with CC for it), and if the number gets compromised, not hitting real CC. Posted September 12, 2017 Cash is the best way to go! Credit card charges can be reversed and then there's those pesky taxes. I have the ability to accept cc but I'd only do it with someone I've known for many years. Then there's the risk of getting caught. Nope, I don't want the government knowing dick about what I do, what kind of money I make etc. I pay my taxes, but giving anyone the ability to see something like credit cards...nope! The debate of envelopes has been changing over the years. I remember when visible cash was the thing, then hiding the cash because LE didn't do it that way, now back to open cash to avoid shorting.
