Posted August 13, 2017 Feel blessed. They're quiet in the winter. Wait until the cicadas never leave your head, 24/365. (Tinnitus)

Posted August 13, 2017 (edited) I think these ones are green, though. I never see them. And the torrential rain that just happened may have destroyed them. Poor creatures. I only wished they'd quiet down. Man, nature is such a fickle Queen. Edited August 13, 2017 by Vassago Have not hay
Posted August 14, 2017 A bit of respect for the humble, if loud and ugly cicada. Living under ground for 1...9...13...or 17 years before emerging to breed, drink sap, and sing. Victims of many predators, the first cicadas evolved almost 300 million years ago. Thats quite a run.

Locusts are part of the grasshopper family and even look like a "strange" grasshopper.

Thought cicadas emerge every 13 or 17 years though.?? Still I can understand the frustration, they're noisy! Id prefer the noise for several weeks compared to the stupid beetles killing the trees. Those are the worst creatures alive! And what ever happened to the miller moths? I remember when I moved here in 99 how bad they were, but I haven't seen them last year or this year.
