Dog Bless You…

…That’s a quote from a book I’m currently reading titled Hollow City. It’s the 2nd in a 3 book series by Ransom Riggs. The quote is from a talking dog that smokes a pipe, but has no matches. The 1st in the series being Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. The 3rd is titled Library of Souls. I don’t watch movies so while I own the movie for others entertainment, I’ve never seen the 1st. I LOVE to read. I lose myself doing so. I work hard, I FISH hard, I play hard. My other favorite authors are John Grisham (ATF), John Sanford (Right Behind), Michael Connelly, Lee Child, Dean Koontz (WOW), David Baldacci, James Patterson, Stephen King, J.K. Rowling (Anything Harry Potter), Jonathan Kellerman, Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn (When they were alive), Robert A. Heinlein (Stranger in a Strange Land), Kurt Vonnegut, Antoine de Saint-Expury (The Little Prince), J.R.R Tolkein, Carlos Casteneda, Pearl S. Buck (the 1st book I ever read by myself “The Good Earth”, when I was but a lad. And ohhhh so many many more. I read and write contracts literally every day, week, month. I’d rather FISH…

…My biggest freshwater fish is Lake Granby, 43” 45lbs. We figure the fish had never been caught before because of no scarring, and that fish was just plain rude to me when it finally saw either the boat or me LOL. What a fight! I’ve actually caught a 35lb Blue catfish too…

…I love my job, I get to stimulate the economy and me. I get to cut payroll and do my own bookkeeping (that job will be transferred to my former ATF after she gets settled in her new life). I have Ladies working for me, and getting paid weekly. I get to pick tile colors, paint colors, carpet, and make all things come together. I’m BUSIER than all hell…

…Why another stooped thread by me. I get tired of this tedious forum at times. I get Safety, but this is becoming too repetitive, and a lot of Woe is Me Threads. Too much Rude even by Me! I Get It! I really do, but Jeez, anybody else have a life outside of the Forum? What are you other Hobbies?

Ok.  I think I see where you are going with this.  A chance to know people.  Besides fooling around with ladies with ample bosoms (something I dearly love):

I love scifi and fantasy novels.  Robert Heinlein of course, but I wouldn't have made your choice. I would have selected Time Enough For Love  and Starship Troopers. By far my favorite author is Stephen R. Donaldson....best known for his Chronicals of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.  In his writings, he has a consistant theme of fundamentally broken people rising above themselves to do great things in the service of others.  This hits me where I live.

I hunt, fish, and shoot for fun. I have a HUGE gun collection.  I have cows and baby goats and chickens, all protected by fierce farm kitties. My German Shepherd, who was like a child to me and was queen of the farm, died this spring of old age.  I am almost over the heartbreak enough to replace her.

I play lots of card and board games in person (when I can) and by internet. My favorites are military simulation games like the Panzerblitz game I mentioned in a thread a while back. Oh, I also have thousands of dollars tied up in WWIi naval miniatures.  I am truly a geek's geek.

In my real world job, I get to play with robots!

She had a GREAT life! Chasing deer & rabbits. Swimming in the river that marks the boundary of my farm.  The love of a family.  Other than her irrational fear of thunder.......

Anybody knows of a German Shepherd or Shepherd mix.....I'm looking.

I've been playing music, in bands, since I was 13. I expect to do it until my body won't cooperate. It's my avocation.

I love farming, although I don't own one. I have some relatives with land, and I love visiting! The outdoor physical labor is a great change!

I've owned cats and dogs. Both can bring me joy, but cats are definitely easier.

I'm a tradesman with a small (just me) business, and so I relate to the the ladies here. Dealing with potential customers can be quite the headache. Still, I'd rather do it on my own, than work for someone else.

I used to read a lot, but that disappeared when I started the business. I love movies though! Netflix and Amazon Prime are wonderful!

I've lived for the past 20 years on a small tropical island.  I don't own a tv.  I'm a voracious reader and always have five or six going simultaneously. The last couple I've finished are Hell In a Very Small Place (about the French at Dien Bien Phu),  The Potlikker Papers: a food history of the modern south and a book about high end desserts.

I'm a dog guy through and through. All my dogs have been working dogs. Nothing like watching a good dog do its thing: be it pulling, herding, retrieving or guarding. I switched from a long time with mostly labs to English Pointers these days. We go all over the country starting in September chasing and occasionally shooting at, the things that English Pointers point.

I'm handy in the kitchen and have cooked with some of the people you see on chef shows or at the Aspen Food Festival.

I have yet to meet anyone that didn't like the book "Freehold" by Michael Z Williamson when I recommended it to them.  Very strong woman lead character, so full of kick ass.  One of the major characters is an escort, and ... well, it's a must read for scifi fans.  It's usually free on Kindle so you get hooked and buy the rest of the series.

I'm on my third border collie.  The first, we got back in '99, was a pure bred, and so damn smart.  After he died, we picked up a border collie corgi mix from the Colorado cell dog program- https://www.coloradoci.com/serviceproviders/puppy/index.html.  That program does more for dogs and folks in jail than anything.  If you're considering getting a dog, please see if you can support the program.  It's a lifesaver for so many folks that are incarcerated.  Unfortunately he died after we only had him a few years, and we just got our latest, a jack russel/border collie mix, as a young rescue pup last year.  Should have named him Spring, because he can certainly bounce...

How do you feel about mucking horse stalls?😉

The topic title keeps reminding me of the Joke: Did you hear about the dyslexic agnostic? He wondered if their really was a dog.

Biking around distressing from work and exploring new trails never gets old for me.  I use to read lots but now I listen lots.  Huge audio book fan - back and forth to work, doing chores, and when I go to sleep at night - someone is reading me a bedtime story... I'm very immature.

I love cats... if you cook em long enough.  (sorry - I apologize)   I like them both but dogs are better company and are more expressive of their simple joy in being alive.

Me? I love to read! You'd think being in school full time that I'd be sick of reading...nope! My favorite author is Sue Grafton. I've read all her books...waiting for "y" to come out. Then Laurel K Hamilton the Anita Blake series. Then there's the classics. Picture of Dorian Grey, little Women, 20 thousand leagues under the sea, pig man, and my all time favorite East of Eden, and on and on and on! Books for me are like visiting an old friend. A vacation, an adventure and a piece of happiness. But when I'm not reading, I'm studying for the LSAT....which I hate.

Due to being sick with my gallbladder and then having it removed, my documentary on the homeless is put on hold. I'll resume that in about a month. But the homeless is a passion of mine. I believe in helping your fellow man. Though I'm not very fond of professional vagrants, that's my next film.

I love scary movies, and can't wait to see Annabel 2, and IT. Two of my bestest gal pals go with me. They of course know nothing about this secret life. Not that I'm ashamed, but them not knowing gives me balance. As does having a life outside of escorting! Every Sunday is family dinner. At least 1 of my adult kids come and we enjoy family time.  We play board games etc.

Then there's my puppy love! She's a golden retriever that just turned a year. She's a little too smart sometimes, but I'm in love! They say you will have three awesome dogs in your life and she's definitely one of them. She's a little peeved at me right now because I haven't taken her to the dog park, but I'm sure she will forgive me.

School! I love learning and can't wait to graduate in December! Then it will almost be time to leave Colorado to pursue my life long dream of being an attorney. Oil and gas, environmental law with a little family law thrown in. Ya know how people say life doesn't really begin til you hit 40. Boy that's true. I feel like I'm just getting started. There's a wisdom that comes to you. You slow down a little, enjoy the little things in life.

Thanks for starting this thread Fish! It's important for everyone to realize there's so much more to life than what happens on this board, or the people on the board. You have to go find passions and love life. Trust me, when you find yourself too busy to care about the drama, it's very liberating.

I'm slowing down a lot - 80 in two weeks.  I'm retired twice (ARmy and building launch pads for rockets). Now I do taxes (Jan - Apr). I gardened until last year but it got too much so its a mess of flowers and weeds now. I love to read my tastes run like Fishndudes.  My Sig. other is really ill now and I spend a bunch of time caring for her. I was very active in a fraternal society (state Officer) and am still treasurer of four bodies, but that too is slowing down I've told them all that this is my last year as Treasurer. In case you don't know getting old is not for sissies!! My kids come over every now and then for Sunday dinners.  Wish it were more often for my Sig Other's sake. Yep I still hobby as it is the only outlet left for me.

I've read these books! Well, I've read the first two. I tried watching the movie but I thought it was garbage (you wouldn't be missing anything). While I know that you must separate a movie from the books and not compare them too much, it's just not a good film, IMO...  I do love the dark scenery in my imagination though (it even appeared in a dream once). Great story to get lost in.

Pictures or it didn't happen.  Sounds like a fish story.

I was at Granby last Tuesday.  I caught the 2 biggest lake trout in my life that day.  (I have pictures :))  Fishing was slow in between periods of sheer excitement.

I am sure I am going through another mid life crisis.  Traveling and fishing are constantly on my mind.  The hobby has taken a back seat.  (My ATF of many years married and left me for another man).

My latest project is installing a 450hp LS engine in my vintage pickup truck. Why?  Because I can.  Finally I have the time and $$ to afford doing things I never could do when I was younger with clones.  If only I had room to restore an antique tractor.

Not much interested in ice fishing.  I caught a cold once.  Hiking a stream and fishing west of Gunnison is my idea of heaven. Summers are too short.

I am an avid reader too. I have over 2000 books in my collection, and yes, I have read them all but 12 which I am hopefully reading soon. My favorite author is Patrick Rothfuss, and I have almost given up on him finishing the 3rd book of his epic series "The Name Of The Wind". If you haven't read this fantasy series...run to the book store and pick it up. He is an incredible writer! Second is Mary Higgins Clark, while it is easy reading...I love her style. I have been reading her mysteries since I was 13, and will be heartbroken when she passes.

Right now, I just celebrated my  14th anniversary of when I entered the adult biz. I, of course, celebrated with a "bang"! LOL!

Also, I am dealing with school of various kinds. Mine, and the younger ones. I wish mine was moving faster though so I could have started a month or so ago. Oh well! Then we have birthdays coming up too...everybody is growing up too fast on me!

Otherwise, I drink my coffee, be a parent, drive everywhere, put up my ads, see my clients, be domestic, karaoke when I have a chance, read a book I can get to, watch shows that I love, preen over my garden, take a trip or two, hang with my friends, take walks and reflect, and drink a glass of wine or beer when I like. Life is good!

Xoxo,

Samantha Sheppard

I used to have that many books. When my ma was slowin down and I decided to move in with her, I gave them all away. Now everything's on my iPad except some of my organic remedy books that aren't available on iTunes. I have a Kindle app too. I can access all my books on my iPod, iPhone etc. I downloaded "The Name Of The Wind", just now and will make that my next read. Thanks for the suggestion. I've been flippin 4 different projects all summer. Dipped into my free time except reading. Everything is coming to end game at one time, end of this month...Then FISH ON!

I absolutely love reading books even though I'm mostly done with all my schooling. I would  have to say my favorite author is Agatha Christie!! There's something hot about mysterious murder stories. On my personal novel I'm writing I'd have to say like Melissa, I got a good one about homeless people since I just spent a month in Vegas. Reading is therapeutic at times and can be very peaceful when you need a break from reality.

My mom once said to me: "You don't really enjoy anything unless there is a good chance of dying, do you?"  She's pretty much right, my life consists of my boring job that is in the process of killing me and the weekends I live for: Whitewater rafting, hang-gliding (not so much anymore), rock climbing, flying my ultralight, racing dirtbikes,  riding my motorcycle, meeting strange women in strange places for strange and exciting activities and, as of this last weekend, skydiving (which is an absolute blast - I may be selling the motorcycle to buy a nice canopy).  Used to read voraciously, no time anymore except on airliners - last book I read all the way through was "Cloud Atlas" which I highly recommend.

As if you care. ;)

Me?

I'm and old soul.

I love my family, my friends, and anyone that knows me trusts me to tell the truth.

I love to ride my Harley.... Scuba diving is better than sex! Sorry everyone, I'm a Dive Master! I stand by my previous statement! NOTHING like dropping into a 60' reef and being in Zen......Nothing.

My wife, my kiddos and my big old dog mean the world to me. Animals have a spot in my heart. I used to be a hunter in my younger years. I can't bring myself to

do that anymore. If I'm looking for animals I have my camera with me. I can't bring myself to hunt anymore.

If I happen to consider you a friend of mine, take it to the bank so to speak because.. I'll have you're back as I know you will have mine as well.

Love to read. Eddings, Tolkein Feist Donaldson are a few of my favorites!
