Earning in the sex industry

35 posts in this topic

From conversations with different providers, hobbyists, reading different forums and of course some stand up comedy, I have a question to throw out there. It is kind of 'all over the place' but I think I can make coherent post. Bear with me.

Here is the question, how would a hetero guy make money? (Even if just to cover their own hobby) and not being a pimp.

Sex is great, fun, healthy, we all need and want it and if you could make money... Be it from companionship, consenting activities, being in movies, or modeling.

we all come in different shapes and sizes and have our own preferences on what we find attractive. There are many incredible women on here that support themselves and run a good business. As men we will pay for time and companionship, we'll pay for time with girl that we never could've had, maybe could've in the last but not now. I don't think women are likely to do this, at least not unless the guy looks like an underwear model. Do you remember Duece Bigelow? A provider once told me she rarely gets to have sex, that often clients want time and maybe quick touch but that's it.

Some of these things had me thinking, in any industry there is the need for many different roles, is there a niche of women that would seek that companionship? Perhaps they could find for free but you know the saying, 'the money isn't for you stay, it's for you to leave and not tell'. Or collaborative service, web site management, scheduling, other things that business owners need but don't need to do themselves. Or other professional services that could provided. Has anyone thought about what potential opportunity there could be?

long start for a forum thread I know.

Have you ever heard the term "walker"?

I doubt there's much call for them here in Denver. I would look for a target rich environment of wealthy widows, like S.FL. You'll have to be cultured, able to intelligently discuss art, opera, classical music, etc.Your job? To walk her to her seat at the symphony, fetch her drink, perhaps to even dance at that charity gala. You'll also need the appropriate wardrobe. It's not about SEX.

When I lived in SRQ (80s), I had a drinking buddy in his late 50s. It wasn't a living, but he always had drink money from squiring the 70+ widows. He was attentive, got them out of the house, and showed them a good time. He was usually back at the bar by 11pm.

Well, you are not going to like the anser, but the fact is....you would have to be a gay escort.   You're in Denver,if you expect women to pay for men,you will starve.Even male strippers don't make a hundreth of what women do. If you want to go into porn...men are underpaid props, women are better paid stars....unless you do gay porn.

Hate to burst your bubble, but that's a fact

In some cases, women are paid more than men in the adult industry, but it depends on the production company. Men are able to work longer in the adult film industry where as women do not get to have the same career longevity. Some companies pay based on the type of scene, but as of late equal pay is normal. For example, there is a well-known kink site that only pays you based on the number of hours, not the type of scene or your gender identity. The thing is, I know a lot of providers that are not straight, they see men for work and that's it. Obviously, that is not everyone's cup of tea, but it is a solution to make money as a provider. Thanks to companies like The Free Speech Coalition, major adult film brands are paying everyone fair wages so no one feels they have to cross personal boundaries in order to make more/any money.

As far as other avenues for making money outside of performing or seeing clients, there are a number of technical jobs available. There is a forum based site that companies can post looking for technical positions, ex: copy writers, graphic designs, SEO & web design, camera operators, video editors, social media management, admins, etc. I have used the site many times to find writing jobs. If you want to know the name of it, just PM.

I have been a male escort here in Denver for several years now. If I add $1 to what I have made escorting in that time I would have, $1. :D

I was a member of the Adult Video Association for years before it morphed into the Free Speech Coalition. Not exactly a fan of FSC, they seem to be more into it for themselves..but that best discussed in a PM.  Men are able to work longer in the industry because  a good woodsman  isn't that easy to find. Time is money and no one wants to wait around for a man to be up and ready. As for pay today, have several well know friends that work at 7-11 to make ends meet. (again..a pm )  Technical jobs are there, but even then,a number of behind the scenes men and women wait by the phone. Why ? because production isn't what it once was.

olgun, the work is in LA and Vegas, not Denver.

FSC got some new staff and changed some things around. I'm happy about the changes so far, but big changes are yet to be seen. I'm sorry you have a bad experience. Most of the technical work I see being posted is for web/remote work for sites or processing sites for adult content. I've written for a couple different sites and enjoyed it so I go back every once and awhile to check the boards. A lot more people are going independent and creating websites. IMHO, is the best way to go. Bigger sites get traffic, but they also take a pretty large cut. I have a friend who got a bunch of traffic camming, she won't leave the site because her fan base is there. Which makes total sense to me. I digress, if you have any technical ability especially web design, SEO, site admin, video editing, writing, etc then there will always be work available.

Back in the 70's I worked for the Holiday Inn. We would get mainly male travelers who often times ask where they could go to meet women. I would point out the women in the bar that where a sure thing and what their rates where. I made good tips just pointing out which ladies where the local working girls.

Many decades ago, before the internet, I work for an upscale hotel as a bellman. It was my job to get the guest settled in. If a guest wanted tube socks with a red strip it was my job to find those for him. If we wanted female company, it was my job to assist (in ways that was legal and wouldn't get the hotel in trouble). We also had a number of female guest, most of who where traveling on business. They would often have request much like the male travelers. If I couldn't assist the guest, I found someone who could. It often times was just drawing them a bath and getting them a drink, a massage, unpacking their bags, rubbing their feet, never more than oral sex. (sometimes it was walking their dog). I never charged, we provided customer service to the guests in hopes of making good tips.

At the time, never thought of it as being part of the sex industry but part of the hospitality business. I'm sure things are much different today. I do miss it.

In a way, it's all still hospitality. We take requests to the satisfaction of the guest. What a cool job though, I bet you have the best stories.

I stated that I've known the FSC since it was in the talking stages .I was in the Adult Video Association ( much better run ) before it morphed into the FSC. Gloria Leonard and Bill Margold were the bridge between the two.  Guessing that was before your time ? Anyhow, I've revealed too much of my resume as it is and that is a TOB no no, I'll pm you what you need to know.

That is too funny. Kinda along the lines of a conversation I had the other day with some folks. There are those niche markets for sure. Like smashing dishes in Japan.

I know I know. I'll just clarify that I wasn't beginning this thread seeking 'employment' opportunities, just bringing together a dozen or so different conversations into a single ridiculous comment.

For all the time I was at the Oyster, got calls every week about men getting into the industry. All of whom didn't believe that there was no money in it unless you are gay.  You would be surprised how many straight performers in LA moonlight at 7-11. I take your question seriously as so many men have their delusions.

This whole discussion reminded me of a Richard Jeni bit on how happy the male porn actors must be to go to work. Saw him at Comedy Works and laughed so hard I nearly peed my pants. RIP

I believe there are tons of opportunities for the hetero male to make money of this industry. We have a lot of the same needs as any other business so if you're a lawyer, accountant, consultant/advisor, driver, photographer etc providers need your services. As a provider I would like to see some resources and tools catered more specifically to our needs. I have a few ideas for products that would make our lives so much easier.

There are some straight dudes who are pros and they do make money but they all look like Tyson Beckford and Antonio Sabato Jr. I do however think there is a market for straight men getting paid they just have to figure out how to find the women looking for that. I bet opening night of 50 Shades of Gray would have had far more men if paid companionship was more accessible for women. Sex is easy companionship is not.

I think about potential opportunity all the time and I don't think I am the only one. There is always room for growth and there is so much that would be really helpful. Actually just this moment I had another brilliant idea. Any venture capitalists out there? There are some great ideas out there that could make a small fortune and be really helpful but they lack the funds and proper support.

I think that the idea of hetero men being as successful as hetero women are in this industry is a plausible idea. Actually, when I think about it, I can think of more female friends that are constantly on the prowl than I can men. Deeply engrained gender norms, stereotypes and stigmas are the real deciding factor here. There is so much about that situation that is in direct opposition to norms, values and beliefs that help build our culture, society and even everyday interactions
