Travel? What to do? Why?

To avoid hijacking Laci's thread:

For the TLDR crowd - It's not nookie 24/7.

I travel, a lot. When people ask me what I do, I often reply, "Travel."

Sitting on a beach & watching the surf is relaxing - for a day or two. I have beautiful views from my mountain property, too.

I visit a lot of museums. Art museums. History museums, large & small. I particularly like living history museums with docents explaining how people lived. Castles & famous homes, seeing how the 1% lived.  There is a lot to learn.

I eat local cuisine.  I've seldom put something in my mouth I've had to take out.  On occasion I've told the chef, "Put a party in my mouth." And they did!

I take classes. I've taken cooking classes in Sante Fe (executive chef for La Fonda) and in Florence, Italy. (That appitiezer showed up at a community pot luck, to rave reviews.) I've taken classes on spoon carving in NC, chair building in NH, paper making in Japan, and ink painting in China.

I ride or hike. Sometimes a bicycle; others my motor scooter. More great scenery and more great people.

What's special about taking a companion on my travels? The ability to share the adventure with them. Getting to watch their expression when they put that delicious morsel in their mouth. Hear their scream on that amusement park ride. The amazement in their eyes as they stroke a jelly fish or stingray; hold an alligator. Or just sit and share their peaceful vibe watching that sunrise/sunset from a mountain top or on a beach. And sometimes, if you're really lucky, she'll be the one leading you to new experiences.  All of this is far more rewarding than time "between the sheets."  (Not that I'd turn down an intimate caress when the moment's right.)

Thanks for bothering with my ramblings.

So, other than business, what do you folks like to do when you travel?

Hmm, I travel to Las Vegas,Chicago and New Your City often on business, after work there is always plenty to do.Take in a show, play tourist, explore...simply enjoy what each city has to offer. Owning a second home in Pasadena, love going to the beach ,catching live music and just enjoying the many restaurants.

I'm a huge sucker for the beach. Right now I've only been to South Beach and California beaches, but I want to travel to more international beaches. Thailand, Mexico, Bora Bora, Maldives, and Bali are a few on my list.

I also want to go on a tour of Europe and visit London, Paris, Greece, and a few places in Italy. Oh and Ireland! Ireland looks absolutely gorgeous.  But honestly I wouldn't mind taking a few years and traveling and seeing all the beautiful wonders of the world 🌎😁😘

I am remiss. I should have mentioned taking other parts of local culture, be it opera, play, or other live music. Thanks for the reminder, JR.

I am sticking with my photography theme.  I love to take a million pictures.

I think going to St Petersburg with a few beautiful Russian women in only furs to do a shoot at Katherine's palace or the winter palace.  Then off to Brazil for a steamy hot beach shoot with some local couples...  Oily and Sandy!!

I have traveled through Europe, central America, Bahamas, most of the US, and need a new adventure...

In re the OP: I like being other places, but I don't like going other places.

Travel is broadening, and it's neat to realize that the "American" way isn't the only one(or even the best one).

Im going to SF in a couple months, but my heart belongs to Europe(Scotland).

You're right, the company is one of the rewards, and the shared experiences. I'll always remember standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona, and meteor crater, and more. The adventure is fun with the right company.

I still remember being in Tokyo and getting the Japan Times (English language newspaper) delivered every morning.  Most of the articles were from other English speaking countries. A real eye opener.

Greyfriar's Kirkyard is on my bucket list along with the vaults. My first stop on my first trip to NYC were a couple of cemeteries and they were fascinating. I like to see all the names we've abandoned over time.

Nice topic!  I have traveled all my life and have been on every continent including Antartica.  So now that I am slowing down I love to just stay at home for the most part and fish and ski and spend a lot of time in my wood shop.  I also do quite a bit of volunteer work but I still like to get out and visit the ladies here.  I have seen ladies from many different places but home territory I have found is the most enjoyable.
