Condoms - Yes or No?

90 posts in this topic

From the back of an FC2 package:

Protect against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Pregnancy rate for 12 months of use.

  • FC1 female condom - typical use(21%) perfect use(5%)
  • Male latex condom - typical use(15%) perfect use(2%)

The enclosed instructions clearly state, "The FC2 Female Condom is indicated for preventing pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, and other sexually transmitted infections(STIs)." Check out https://fc2.us.com/

As for size & fit, similar issues exist with male condoms. When male condoms are not properly used there can be consequences too.

If you have conflicting data, please, post your sources.

Bottom line: Use condoms - EVERY TIME!

Condom culture should be, everyone all the time no matter what.
I follow the same rules in my personal life and believe everyone who is sexually active needs to be tested regularly. Better safe than uber sorry.

It shocks me how many BBFS requests I receive. I used to reply about the dangers, now I just ignore and block.

This!!! I'm a veteran and get tested regularly as well at the VA hospital since it's free. I grew up in the 90's during the AIDS hysteria so it's programmed into me.

LOL. What a thread! Hey if you’re worried about dying, worry about these..

https://www.livescience.com/3780-odds-dying.html#deadlydiseases

Not that I’m saying you shouldn’t be careful, but frankly unprotected sex is not one of them. 50% more likely to get shot, 6 times more likely to die in an auto accident, 8 times more likely from drugs, and 100 times from a heart attack. So if you slip up bud, don’t worry too much, you’re much more likely to die in her sweet embrace from a heart attack!

😎

Thanks for the tip Audrey. I've been looking for them.

You now need a prescription for the FC2. What kind of bullshit is that?

WTF?

This seems be another "benefit" brought to you by the Affordable Care Act. Not only do you now need a prescription, but it comes with a hefty price increase.

It is actually a benefit that ACA covers it. It sounds like from the article you linked that it was the idea of the company that made them because they weren't making enough money. This is corporate greed not Obamacare, the ACA was the only way they thought they could force women to pay big bucks for it.

Also from the article you posted, FC2 still sells to wholesalers but at $120 for a box of 12. They're trying to profit off of sexual health, which isn't unreasonable but I would imagine there were lots of different ways this could have been approached. The makers of FC2 are the assholes here. They say in the article it failed because of lack of awareness and education. It's not the responsibility of the public to promote an item. I wonder if it ever occurred to them to target the people who are actually having sex? There are no less than 4 billion blogs about sex not even counting porn sites and do you not find it odd that you had to hear about second hand?

Women are the majority when it comes to handling sexual health and with the very real female tax we spend a lot of money. To target women financially like that implies to me that profit matters more. While the female condom is a great idea and I would love to be able to utilize it I will not be giving any money to FC2.

Could we place blame where it belongs?

1. corporate greed - alive, well, and thriving.

2. bureaucrats that set up rules that ALLOW corporations to rape the government with ludicrous pricing - and by extension every last one of us that pays taxes and/or pays for their health insurance.

3. allowing the manufacturer to decide if a prescription is required - WTF???  When did the pharma industry lobbyists buy THAT sweetheart deal?  Before or after bribing doctors to prescribe opioids like candy?

Yes, corporate greed, for which ACA opened the door.

  • The AMA must like this - it's yet another reason to visit your medical practitioner.  CaChing!
  • Pharmacies must like it - another 'in person' purchase instead of 'off the shelf', justifying more staff. CaChing!
  • The "moral majority" must like it - another obstacle to contraception & immoral sex.
  • And of course the manufacturer loves it - they now charge more because insurance pays, hiding true cost or how much the company is raking in from the customer. CaChing!
  • Oh, those government bureaucrats like it too - they  can now get their buddy a job shuffling the additional Medicaid claims. CaChing

What could go wrong?  Rinse, repeat (with another medical product).

BTW: I was using Reality condoms (FC2, version 1.0) almost 20 years ago. My wife & I tried them due to side effect of breast cancer treatment. Didn't work; we still had issues with intercourse.

Just an FYI. Noticed that some of the condom companies now state on their packaging that they are 95 % reliable. Our testing years ago were closer to 80% .   PLEASE USE  LUBE WITH THE CONDOMS !!!

I just had one break at the wrong moment. Not good! Not good at all. Scary.

Remember being 'clean' may mean 'no symptoms', but STDs can be symptomatic free like Trichinosis especially with the male, who can go around spreading it unknowingly.  It is very important to get regularly tested  (both parties) regardless!

Some 1 millions Americans have HIV, with huge numbers not even knowing especially in the younger crowd.    The biggest risk factors are needle sharers (Dont do drugs), MSM (44% unaware!, unprotected anal), and female sex workers.

I saw what you did there. 😝

Trichinosis is not considered an STD. You get it from eating infected meat, typically pork.(*)

(*) Hence the dietary restrictions of the Jewish & Islamic faiths.

I definitely insist.. at times it does cause problems because after seeing someone for a long period of time they feel like they may deserve that unprotected side of you.. I had a hobbyist tell me that if I gave a bbbj and used listerine immediately afterwards that it would kill everything.. oddly enough the next time I returned to Utah, he said "karmen I should've listened I got burned from getting a simple bbbj"  Ill stick to being safe !

**always karmen

Not in left field with what I am saying...

Never in my life have I gone out my way to publically cause problems for anyone. If anything, I look to encourage, help, TEACH, and yes even heal others.  I am VERY hurt by someone and in how they have gone out of their way to try and strike pain. I am sorry if you are bothered by my words? Well, I am ALSO very honest  with everything that comes from my mouth...

To those who feel it nessesarry to inflict pain on others?

Please remember you will never fix  yourself by trying to break others.

Oh, and YES it true I am left handed too.

Thank you!

A client turned me onto them long ago. You can buy them on Amazon and because there are many vendors you can sometimes score a deal. If you have trouble with chafing do to latex rubbing? These female condoms can seriously work wonders for you. I also suggest buying the higher quantity packs to have on stock.  Pricy oh yes! Yet they are well worth it. I also think that eventually these female condoms will lower their prices once other companys start manufacturing them and they start to catch on more.

Is it not interesting how trends change?!

Lol off topic again...sorry!

😀😀

I think the best brand out there is Lelo with the Hex design engineering. Pricey but worth it.
