Most people perceive that woman do this for other reasons, those reasons being illegal products. I think she didn't go into all the reasons because for most of the reasons are pretty similar. Most people perceiving that sex workers are addicts is exactly the kind of stigma that sex workers would like to end. The decriminalization of sex work will happen, just not tomorrow. That is why these talks are important, we can't have decriminalization until we all (as much as we can) have the same level of understanding. Talks like these are eye-opening to even those in the "hobby" and that to me is proof that we have a long way to go as far as understanding and education. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I even feel the same way after I listen to a well educated and logical presentation such as the one linked to. And then I read the comments to the video (not just this one, every article I have seen) and I am totally appalled by the sheer depth of ignorance and stupidity by the vocal opposition and how devotedly they hold to their "convictions". I fear we have a long, long way to go. Facts and reason can be debated and minds changed. however, deeply held but totally erroneous beliefs are almost impenetrable - especially when continually fed by weasel politicians and irresponsible media. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

You know who the worst perpetrators are? Other women. Weasel politicians are usually men that are already engaging in the services but can't speak out for obvious reasons, it's hypocritical but kinda understandable. What I don't understand are the Kamala Harrises of the world. Women who, for power or because they truly believe in the cause, actively work against their own gender. Tina Fey is another one, she's smart, funny and super feminist until it comes to sex workers of all kinds. Rashida Jones made a documentary about the horrors of porn. Lena Dunham, Meryl Streep and the other well known Hollywood women who penned the letter to Amnesty International after they took their stance on decrim. With the exception of Dunham these are mostly women I really admire and look up to otherwise and so do lots of women. So when women hear from other women about the evils of sex work it just makes it that much harder to deal with.
