The middle class being tired of getting squeezed, with perks going to the upper & lower class? No, it has to be for hateful reasons (racism, misogyny, etc.). The USA was founded as a constitutional republic, not a democracy! The Electoral College is but one element of our representative style of government. It helps protect us from the tyranny of the majority. Part of today's problems (Federalism & the lack of States' rights) stem from the 17th Amendment, which transformed the Senate, the States' house, to another Peoples' body.
